So, one thing that I am beginning to notice is that fighters like 
as well as mages like 
and 
do a Vanguard's job about as well as Vanguards while also doing reliable damage..... In the case of Lissandra and Kennen, their CC out-performs most vanguards and in Lissandra's case, a tank build is actually effective. A beefy Camille not only has comparable CC, but invaluable utility in that 1 person can't get away no matter what.

all of those guys save for Jarvan can only lock down one person in particular, and bar Warwick aren't nearly as tanky
compare to 
with AoE ults, 
AoE slows and passive, as well as Sejuani and Naut can CC you from distance where these guys all have to jump into melee range to hit a key target
they just aren't meta currently besides Naut because sej and amumu have slow clears and are easy to out-duel early on, and in this early game jungler meta that's basically a death sentence, Nautilus was lucky enough to find new home in top/support
