Talon's E (Cutthroat) discussion

Sup guys!

Even tho I think Talon is in a very balanced champion right now, and he is not really in a bad spot, I have the feeling Cutthroat could get some tweaks. The reason why I'm bringing this up is because I've been looking and analyzing other champions' gap closer and it feels like Talon's gap closer could get some love.

Pros: - Instant gap closer (compared to a leaps and dashes). - Brings one of the most useful CC (silence) against mages, which you fight against most of the time in mid lane. - Relatively low mana cost.

Cons: - Inability to use it freely or on allied structures and champions (unlike most gap closers) - Does no damage (unlike most gap closers) - Higher cooldown than most gap closers - Early level damage amplification is barely noticeable

Doesn't it feel like the cons are overwhelming the pros just a little bit? Especially since there are plenty of champions with gap closers that have damages, lower cooldown and the ability to use it almost anywhere...

Since the ability name is Cutthroat, Talon can't use it on allied champions or structure, or anywhere on the map. So this downside can't be tweaked. Also, Talon already have the damages he needs in his kit, so adding damages on activation would make his burst way too overpowered. Which leads to the 2 last downsides. I've come up with 1 idea for each:

Idea 1: Basic attacks on an enemy silenced by Cutthroat reduce the cooldown of Cutthroat by 1 second. Take note that Noxian Diplomacy counts as a basic attack. (This minor buff would give slightly more mobility to Talon and would encourage players to auto-attack before activating Noxian Diplomacy.

Idea 2: Current damage amplification by Cutthroat: 3%/6%/9%/13%/15% New damage amplification by Cutthroat: 6%/8.5%/11%/13.5%/16% (Another suggestion to help Cutthroat actually make a difference in early trades, while not increasing the late game amplification too much.)

As you can see, those are minor buffs. And I don't think it needs to be any bigger, since assassins tend to snowball really quickly when played well. You are allowed to disagree with me, I actually post this to get feedback from everyone. But if you like one or both my ideas, vote on the poll and rate this thread up so maybe it eventually gets attention from the staff :)

Cutthroat definitely feels like it's not doing much early on unless you sink your skill points into it... It'd be nice to get at least a little bit out of it.

cause its a late game skill

Cons: - Inability to use it freely or on allied structures and champions (unlike most gap closers)

The problem here is not the inability to use it in that way, but the fact that Jax/Kat are able to use their teleport abilities on allied units. They need to remove that.

      - Does no damage (unlike most gap closers)

It's not really supposed to. There doesn't need to be damage in this specific area of his kit.

      - Higher cooldown than most gap closers

It's instant, long range, low mana cost with a damage amplifying silence. I think a decent early game cooldown is fair balance for that.

      - Early level damage amplification is barely noticeable

It's supposed to be that way. It's a scaling skill. This is why you save it for last.

+1 for this cause its what OP is missing

I agree with everything except for the Katarina part. She is an assasin that requires skill in mid lane and shunpo is a really decent and much needed escape.

I don't know if you read my post entirely, but I did mention that those 2 downsides can't be modified since they would either make Talon way overpowered or change his gameplay too much. Which is why I focused on giving ideas to slightly buff the 2 others. Thanks for your answer anyway pal!

I agree with you for the most part, but Katarina and Jax are not "problems" just because their gap closer is also their escape.

Talon's escape just happens to be a combination of Rake and Shadow Assault; instead of a dash/blink, he gets stealth, MS and CC.

I'm not interested in Talon getting any sort of buffs. Not only is the champion himself toxic to the game, but for some reason he makes the people who play him toxic as well. Every single Talon player I've ever encountered, whether on my own team or the opposing, would spend the entire game vulgarly flaming other players and using prejudicial slurs. I haven't seen this kind of consistent misbehavior from any other champion, not LB, Kat, Zed or even Kass, so it's confusing to me as to why this is or where it's coming from.

As for Talon mechanics-wise, Cutthroat gives him as little counter-play as pre-nerf Kass and LB had, but thankfully he doesn't have as much overwhelming burst as either of them to make him an auto-pick/ban like they used to be. If he were to be given any sort of buff especially in the early game, it would push him over that threshold into the realm of complete imbalance.

I'm sorry you met only d*ckhead Talons xD I don't really know what to tell you, but I can tell you that I'm just a chill and nice guy throwing ideas for one of my favorite champion. I actually met a couple of great Talon players and we would just stay in the lobby to talk about him and his gameplay.

Afterall, this is far from a QQ thread, my goal was to share a few ideas and get feedback from people. I knew some would disagree and it's okay to disagree since I'm not a LoL God who knows everything :P

I dont think Talon needs buffs anyway. He is a really strong solo q pick.
