Ahri- Can someone teach me how to Ahri?

I love the champ and have recently started using her more, but I find that I feel like even when landing my spells and abilities, the damage just doesn't feel...enough.

Can someone teach me the tricks? lol

Keep in mind that she's a kite-oriented mage who want to reposition during fights and get off multiple rotations of her abilities. While you can burst down targets, your immediate single-target burst is lower than many other champions.

The true damage on her orb means that she's one of a handful of rotation-mages that can actually shred tanks, the only other one I can think of being Vel'Koz midgame.

Ahri isn't the damage champ

Ahri is ahri

You are not dealing too little damage, you are dealing ahri damage

u_u The first trick to learning how to ahri is learning how the game is played. Mages typically get a powerspike towards the midgame and have to build into it as well though in ahri's case its not a massive commitment since she has good damage and mobility.

Ahri needs AP, a little mana, and some CDR

Ahri does not need much magic penetration but likes to have some

Ahri can afford to get some defense but much of her defense just comes from a mix of mobility and healing as well as keeping her charm off cooldown which CDR helps with.

Ahri's major damage items are item 3089 item 3135 Ahri's best boots are item 3020 item 3158 Ahri's best defensive options are item 3001 item 3116 Ahri's best utility items are item 3152 item 3116 item 3100 Ahri's best buttripper damage items are item 3285 item 3089 item 3135 item 3100 Ahri's best cdr items are item 3158 item 3165 item 3001 Ahri's best mana items are item 3165 item 3100 item 1056

Ahri does not need many mana items hence why she will typically go for items that give just a little mana with some other effect

Ahri starts item 1056 obviously but what you get next depends on the opponent. If you are going to need to go to base early consider getting a second item 1056 . If you want to take some risk get item 1056 + item 1082 and some pots but you often wont want to unless smurfing or just need ALOT of ap later on. you might also just rush item 3165

Try to get item 3108 early or some source of cdr like item 3158 Though item 3057 does give cdr it is not something you want to build early

learning to conserve earlygame mana is important on ahri, even if you land every skillshot you are probably just wasting mana against most not-braindead opponents if you are hitting them with level one orb of deception and they have sustain or hp pots or both. Keep in mind that sustain can also come from runes and masteries not just from abilities. Earlygame just focus on getting your farm if you can. Especially against champs like leblanc, yas, or zed.

edit

also remember to use your autoattacks. Ahri has unusually high base AS for a mage, better than some autoattacking champs actually.

Also take thunderlords decree keystone as all but one of ahri's spells count as multiple hits.

item 3100 9 times out of 10 you are building this for towers not enemy champs... some teams are very especially incompetent you see and this item gives CDR and a way to end games. If you build this you should maybe also get item 3285 so you get great movespeed. There are some cases where you will want to build this against champions. Basically what this does is saves you a ton of mana rather than giving you a ton of unneeded mana and lets you deal damage between casts and it also helps you kill multiple targets as does item 3285. If you are finding yourself in incredibly long fights for some reason this can be a helpful item against both towers and champs as an alternative to some silly less effective anti-attrition buy like item 3070
