Zyra Passive and Plant Changes

Zyra arguably has one of the most poorly designed passives in the game. On-death passives are only fitting in a select few circumstances (such as Karthus' an Sion's) and her's doesn't mesh well with anything in her kit. Instead, I have a different idea entirely to replace it:

  • New: Passive, Photosynthesis: If Zyra stands still for 2 seconds, she sends roots into the earth and begins photosynthesizing. While Photosynthesizing, she regenerates 0.4/0.7/1% of her missing mana per second and causes her abilities to deal 4/7/10% +(1% AP)% bonus TRUE DAMAGE, while reducing their base cooldowns by a flat 4/7/10% (does not count toward the CDR cap). Photosynthesis lasts for up to 5 seconds before going on a 12/10/8 second cooldown. Moving or being silenced, stunned, suppressed, or displaced ends the effect early. This ability scales at level 1/7/13.

  • Corresponding with this passive change, her W would no longer give CDR, but instead allows her to store 2/2/3/3/4 seeds at any one time (up from 2 flat).

Her Plants are fine for the most part, but I'm always bugged that the only difference between the two is range and a slow. The choice of "what plant do I put down right now?" feels like it has relatively low impact on most scenarios. To alleviate this, I think a little bit more difference should be made between the two plants to make the choice feel more impactful:

  • Vine Spitter stats:

  • Range: 750 (unchanged)

  • Damage: Reduced to 20 +(5 x lvl) +(20% AP) (from 23 +(6.5 x lvl) +(20% AP))

  • New: This plant's attacks are now pass through skill shots, dealing 50% damage to targets after the first (still prioritizes the nearest enemy unit).

  • Vine Lasher stats:

  • Range: 300 (from 400)

  • Damage Increased to 25 +(7.5 x lvl) +(20% AP) (from 23 +(6.5 x lvl) +(20% AP))

  • New: Repeated attacks by this type of plant stack the slow, increasing it by 10% for all attacks after the first, up to 60% max (from 30% flat).

Or make her plants passively sprout like Illaoi's tentacles.

Nah zyra has built in heavy cc if they did that she would be gutted immediately unlike illaoi who's at a 45% win rate due to easy to outplay cc-less and only useable in a clusterf- teamfight then proceeds to just be useless.

I don't think win rate is a suitable argument for a new champion. Nobody knows how to play as or against the champion. Depending on the mechanics it an be heavily skewed in either direction for the first few patches.

On your main point, it is also because Zyra's plants don't (and probably can't) have a delay to attack, Zyra is squishy enough that you can burst her down within her plants without dying, and having two champions that have effectively the same gameplay pattern is not good design.
