Normals being matched with platinum/diamond

I'm gold 5 (with high MMR) and i was wondering if i can actually beat them (as i have REPEATEDLY lost against them currently). I've been getting more and more toxic to the point where i notice it and have to stop myself because of my own frustration at losing ~5 in a row in normals. IS there anything i can do or am i just screwed to the point i have to run down mid in my ranked games to stand a chance in normals?

TL;DR: need help to improve my gameplay to stand against those i'm matched with.

This has been a ... feature to normals for many years now. Doubtful Riot is going to change it especially with preseason coming with so many ranked changes, and thus an opportunity to do a change for this.
