Ornn's Problem...

What is it? I absolutely LOVE him as a character. His backstory, his personality, who he is - all of it is fantastic!

But then... there's his lack-luster win rate.

Now, why would that matter? If you love the character just play the character and be happy, right? Well, I don't think that's very fair of a proposition. While it is fun to play Ornn regardless, and I DO love setting up plays for my teammates (hitting a large Call of the Forge God is absolutely wonderful), but near the mid to end of the game it just feels like people tend to walk past me and ignore my presence. Admittedly, I am a "silver-ish" player (not ranked yet, just hitting lvl 27) but I'm just curious... what makes Ornn have such a low win rate?

The fact that Riot keep nerfing his furry ass because of competitive play.

His win rate for one tricks is 52%. That's not outstanding in the world of the one trick pony, but it's definitely a solid win rate.

Basically Ornn takes effort, and the average person can't just coast their way to victory off of high damage numbers or something. He's the kind of champion that is lack-luster in the hands of a flavor of the month player, but is a very viable choice for someone who is willing to specialize in him.

Don't worry, if you stick with him you'll learn what to do when people try to walk past you. In the meantime experiment (I personally prefer Grasp to Aftershock) and put what you think you know about Ornn to the test.

The major issue with Ornn's balance is you basically -can't- win a trade against him. He deals huge chunks of %HP damage, while being shielded, CC immune, and gaining damage reduction.

Like, damn. That on top of the fact he never has to leave lane make him... A really tough thing to balance.

Lots of nerfs, plus the fact he doesn't counter many champs to begin with; Skirmishers and juggernauts can clobber him if he's not careful and most other champs just go even with him (Mundo, Swain, Vlad, etc.)

Look at his WR/Games played

The reason for his winrate being so low is that most Ornn players have less than 10 ranked games on him.

It just that his ultimate is a completly overloaded ability. Why would you pick someone who can jump into the enemy team and initiate a teamfight, if you can have an ornn that has a reliable engage from 1 mile away? Additionally this ultimate can also be used defensivly to disengage and run away from the enemy team. Or it can be used to put out massive aoe cc during a teamfight, giving all enemies are very hard time to win a teamfight

Call of the forge god is is way too strong for how hard it is to dodge.

Unless ornn gets gutted into oblivion like when azir was too good for pro-play, ornn will always appear in competitive League of Legends. And so he will never be among the A or S tier champions for soloqueue. (Because riot balance prioritises lcs)

I have no issues playing ornn. dont know if my opponent is bad or what, but most games tend to go verry well when i play him and i have a lot of fun with it. that is until cas or brand realize they can melt me with a liandries + void staff combo.

the issue for on is that he needs to set up his skills. He has alot impact if he lands all he has, and if he's in controll and pulling the trigger him self, he's really strong. However, he's horrible at reacting to plays from other people and sucks if you bring the fight to him. His Q pillar is very delayed, the E with no wall is pretty low impact, and the ult at close range needs long to arive and if you get CCed once it does, you won't get the crucial second cast for the knockup. this causes alot issues in solo Q, as soloQ tends to be chaotic and people of either side can randomly go for a play that you are not prepared for, and then they do orn is screwed cause he sucks at reacting to stuff.

In terms of pure win rate, Ornn has been nerfed extensively over time, due to being too good in competitive. In less experienced hands, he's clunky and kinda neutered, but in competitive, he falls into the usual problem of being a late-scaling lane bully, and is capable of applying huge pressure to tanky opponents early, while giving huge amounts of stats to his team later on, in addition to wombo combo potential. Because so much of his power is reliant on teamwork, he therefore tends to have a much higher win rate in competitive than in standard, and so is weak to most when he is balanced at the pro level.

Personally, though, I think Ornn has some gameplay issues beyond this. His forge god theme sounds nice, but is not implemented in the most interesting manner, with it boiling down to inflating the stats of certain preexisting items at a cost. Besides that, his negative Tenacity is gimmicky and unwelcome in an environment saturated with CC already, and he has an inexplicable amount of percentage health damage alongside vast amounts of CC. Once more, there's potential in his theme with his ability to craft terrain, but all of that tends to fall apart into generic CC bot fare later in the game. He also had a unique thing going for him with his unstoppability, but that got removed. All in all, I agree that he has an amazing theme, but I feel it wasn't really explored in depth on his kit.
