What the hell was the point of this Garen update?

Seriously, of all the champions to be reworked, Garen was VERY low on the list. His stuff if new (Compared to some champions who are long forgotten), and he was quite balanced (A tad weak, but still very good). I don't understand why you did this. I LOVE the idea of the new "Villain" mechanic, but the execution was pretty poor for 3 main reasons:

  1. The "Villain" is likely going to be someone is very squishy anyway, so you don't need this extra damage, leading me to my second point:
  2. Because the "Villain" is so squishy, you don't need %10HP true damage/sec on him/her, he/she was dead anyway! Which leads me to my THIRD point:
  3. To "Balance" (I use this VERY loosely) Garen out for this new ability you gutted him and left him in a ditch to die Made a few minor nerfs Before this, I really liked Garen, he was fun, simple, good for solo queue, and had a lore surrounding him. After this, you shoved his lore down his throat, made the few things he relied on to be any good worthless, nerfed him to oblivion, and gave him an extremely situational, overpowered gimmick in return. Then what do you do? "Hey let's buff Teemo! Everyone will love that!" Riot, the only reason there's not any outcry about him is because you fucked up even worse with Garen. I'm sorry I'm so pissed here, but to here's all that happened here:
  4. Take a balanced, simple champion who didn't need a rework
  5. Give him a cool, tad gimmicky ability that gives him a nice buff for a champion that's never been used in high level play
  6. Take every other ability, find it's most commonly used and best use for it, and make it trash
  7. Think that this will help the guy
  8. Buff Satan Why? I don't understand why this was done in the first place? Why did you nerf everything other than his ult? Why did you make such an easily counterable champion counterable by a toddler? All that this change did was this: Before: "I am a strong, versatile, bastion of defense. My armor is impenetrable, my sword sharper than any other blade in the world. I fight for as long as I stand, my courage never waivers! I am the Might of Demacia!!!" After: "VILLLINZZZZ!!!! KILL VILLINZ! UAHAHAHGNOUAHFFAHKBAHFNN;HAF;AHF;JBKAHBJ;AHB;JBJ;KHA!"

I'm that my point came across so poorly, but you took my favorite champion and made him a joke, then buffed a champion everyone hates. What the hell, Riot?

I never really liked Garen because his trades were so cheesy. He runs up to you, silences you for 2.5 seconds and then spins around on you. If you get low enough he presses R.

I think that if they wanted to rework him they should have thought of a way to give him some actual mechanics. Instead they took a shit on his base kit, and gave him an ult buff that just seems designed to piss off the victim. So someone is playing very well and wrecking face, having a great game and potentially even having fun. And specifically because of the fact that they are doing well, an 0/8 Garen runs up to them and deals half of their HP in true damage.

That'll teach them for playing well.

So, he sucks ass in lane, but at least possesses one of the most bullshit mechanics in the game now. It's an idiotic gimmick. Literally the worst of both worlds.

I liked the idea of his gimmick, but the way they did it was shit

I've been a Garen main since season 1, and I've already put some of my feedback on the PBE forum, however I'll list some of it here.

The passive nerf was honestly earned. It's not a big nerf but it does keep Garen from fully regenerating in less than a minute without backing.

The Q worries me slightly, however I haven't seen information on the damage ratios. If they are unchanged the silence nerf will likely be small, and actually safely allows Garen to max W before Q, which is really important now.

W is the biggest nerf out of everything. It gives Garen more early game power if he farms well which should help cover his early game damage nerfs. The tenacity change is a huge hit, but being able to max W earlier and have a longer duration damage reduction effect should cover this well enough into the mid game.

E was a rank 1 buff, rank 2-3 nerf, and if you can't farm a 4-5 rank nerf. If you can farm those later ranks are a buff, as the higher scaling of the E should easily cover the damage difference. Later on in the game E will hit far faster, so with Black Cleaver it will do far more damage than is currently on live while having a similar build. The E change was not a nerf if you play smart.

The ult passive means very little, and is a small buff to the rest of the kit. As far as I can tell the ult active is unchanged outside of doing true damage to one member of the enemy team. If you have a VIP target marked the true damage will absolutely wreck them, however if not you can safely ignore the marked target and drop your regular JUSTICE on them.

Overall it feels like a power reallocation. He's just as strong as before, however just in different places and different stages of the game.
