Riot, you haven't given half a shit about dominion in YEARS

You claim that it's "Too distracting to balance" and that "Need to focus on other areas"

Riot, I'm not sure exactly WHY you think this, because you haven't done shit with dominion in years. You've totally neglected it and haven't done a single thing with it in eons. Why do you think that it takes up too much of your time when you've spent none of it on dominion?

Even if they didn't give it the attention it deserves, they have to continually make sure new changes don't have game breaking effects on Dominion.

I agree it sucks they half-ass supported it all these years just to cancel it, but it still definitely does have it's upkeep in a constantly evolving game.

I feel like if Riot did maintain Dominion it could be as popular as the Summoner's Rift. It has so many positives features to it's design such all champions tend to be viable, support champions can contribute on par with carry champions as kills aren't nearly as important, and there's a lot of positives to build paths which tend to be significantly more flexible than on Summoner's Rift. The atmosphere is a lot more fun and I see almost no toxicity at all.

Riot hasn't done shit with Dominion in years because no one else has. When is the last time Dominion has even been a "hot" topic on these boards before they announced this. You act like people stopped playing which is why Riot "neglected" it. The truth is that people stopped playing it long before Riot took focus off of it.

Some on else on Reddit said ti best, "INB4 50% of the community gets outraged over something that 1% of the community plays regularly."

Riot didn't give a shit about Dominion in years and neither did we*[slayer-jinx-wink]*

Honestly, it's like they're putting down a pet dog because they forgot to feed it, and now it's too sickly to keep living unless they, you know... Put in the effort to care enough to take it to a vet.

But nah. They'd rather put it down and buy new chew toys for their main show dog.

Edit: Yeah, it's more of if they had taken care of it before it just died of neglect, it could have been much better. At this point, I'd have to agree that it's kind of too late to save it. Better to let it go with dignity for now.

riot shot themselves in the foot when the juggernaut update hit, now there just working there way up from there, they currently just shot themselves in the liver

Look how much time and dedication they put into the SR. It's a cluster fuck of balance issues and bugs, so you should actually be happy they haven't touched dominion. I'm sure someone brings it up every board meeting and everyone else just groans.

Furthermore, Im sure Riot's headquaters is divided into two places. A beautiful lush living area with an awesome cafeteria, brand new computers and happy people; this is where skins and new characters are developed. The other side is composed of Pentium 2's with fat arguing neckbeards working on balance, items and SR. Dominion programmers and computers are locked in some asbestos and mold ridden cellar along with the ARAM servers.

Actually, no. They openly saoid that Dominion is not worth any effort and ressources, cause only like 0.5% of all LoL players even bother to play it, and from this 1 in 200 players, more than half are farm bots. Its not about the time, its about the ressources needed to keep a map running, that is literally just a bot IP farming ground.

agbudar2/11/2016, 3:16:56 AM3 votes

ysee if they keep something thats as balanced and fun where all champions are viable they won't need to balance champions so they can't come out with their super awesome patch notes. they lose their job security.

Zedex2/11/2016, 2:10:51 PM3 votes

They haven't done, "shit" with it in years BECAUSE of those reasons. Its too much of a distraction to balance (like 4 champions on that map are god tier, Heimer being one of them and has for years) and they DO need to focus on other areas. I'll be damned if SR balance patches start getting cut because they need to "Fine tune" dominion a bit more so its fair. They either need to overhaul it or delete it, and since overhauling it is too much work, they'd rather just delete it since it serves no real purpose except XP grinding for bots and new players.

There are no strategies, and there is no play making involved. Whoever captures the first few points wins, and after that its literally a clusterfest of players trying to carry there teams by running around the map being useless.

And the players stopped supporting Dominion since it's release. When Riot finally stopped trying to balance it the place was crumbling. It was waiting for a giant sinkhole to swallow it so it can experience the sweet release of death. And besides, why would you spend resources and hire a separate team just for a mode that barely any people played?

Steven Mcburn2/11/2016, 4:07:13 AM3 votes

There's a subtle irony in Riot saying they'd look into putting a ranked mode into dominion the year after it was released, then never doing anything with it.

It's like they're coming out now and saying, "oh man dominion is just too unpopular to support anymore" after never letting a competitive scene thrive there. Crazy.

I actually liked Dominion more than SR by a mile. I remember when it came out I logged something like 300 games before the season ended. It's a much healthier game than "am i strong enough to tower dive then brute-force this tower, or do I have to split push to make sure this objective dies?"

We never even got a draft mode on dominion, did we? Only map mode where you make selective picks without ranked? Probably had the lowest number of reports/toxicity out of any mode, even when it first came out? Riot kind of struck gold and quietly walked away from it with dominion, which is a pity because the whole "farm for 20 minutes" aspect of their game isn't the appealing part of it.

Sire Hippington2/11/2016, 7:43:10 PM2 votes

while they argueably didn't put much effort into it balance wise, it sure has/had it's techincal upkeep, as all new champs/reworks do have capture animations and work bugfree(or atleast as bugfree as in SR). Thoug one might argue that makeing sure a capture mechanic techincally works has a lot benefits for potential fun-modes...

killd0zer2/11/2016, 6:07:51 PM2 votes

Lol neither did 99.5%+ of the playerbase

Bear Gauntlets2/11/2016, 1:15:00 AM2 votes

If they hadn't do anything with it in years, can you imagine the nightmarish task of doing YEARS of backlogged upkeep to a game mode to many people play?

Olga Rajecka2/12/2016, 1:48:14 PM1 votes

Riot killed Dominion themselves. That`s a fact.

Stillname2/11/2016, 7:36:18 AM1 votes

If you think about it. Most of the people who only played dominion were probably fairly casual players who don't go to the website and don't log in that frequently.

A lot of the dominion playerbase won't find out about this for a few weeks after its already happened.... that'll be a weird 10 minutes trying to figure out where the dominion queue went. Or more because the article will be gone off the website by then.
