Ive tried... I just cant do it. and i dont really know why it is. I know, I hate how much more AP items cost. and then theres always the mandatory mana regen and cdr items which I hate.. but yea man... I just cant fkin play mages.

for instance, when I play Talon, voli, vi. My last hitting is spot on. I also think the reason I have difficulty with the AP champs last hitting is that most of em are ranged with slow as shit animations. It also feels weird cause I have to position myself where I want to be in relation to that minion and judge the distance between me, minion, and enemy champ. call me bad, go ahead.. but it just doesnt "click" with me. I play someone melee and I know, Ima walk up to THAT minion, hit him once and walk around. THAT clicks with me perfectly fine.

I know that I have all this ad and how much of that bar ima take off the winion. I can go on my first back and buy like 3 longswords and I can instantly see the difference it makes. I first back with, lets say syndra, and I throw my combo out and finish with a 4th Q sphere. doesnt really seem like I did more damage with that fiendish codex. I dont really notice the 10% cdr either. Not to mention they cost more for more or less the same amount of AP to AD.

maybe just the AD style fits me or something?

The reason you probably have trouble last hitting with AP mid laners is because they don't have AD like Talon or Vi, so their autos are weak. Last hitting on AP mid laners is some of the most difficult last hitting in the game. Your auto's hardly scale, but the minions hp scales a lot. Also, the reason why the autos are slow is because you don't build attack speed. If a Talon had the same attack speed as a Xerath would take the same amount of time for the auto to complete.

Some AP champions who are easy to CS on in mid are Cass, Xerath, and Orianna. Orianna's passive gives her autos a percentage of her max ap, which means they can do tons of damage. Cass has her e which is spammable and gives a percentage of max mana back on a kill, and can be used at an auto cancel. Xerath has a passive that gives him mana back every 12 or so seconds, meaning he can use some of his moves to cs early unlike most AP mid laners.

CDR and mana regen are considered great on mid laners right now because it allows them to wave clear and deal out so much damage in teamfights. They can go from burst to sustained damage, which is good in this tank meta. Not to mention some mana regen and CDR items like Morello and Grail are so good gold efficiency wise right now.

It might just be a preference of being melee vs ranged, they're two different ways of thinking. I personally like both!

I'm great at mages in general. I actually main Mid, and my main champ is Akali (despite the nerfs/buffs and rebalances). I hardly even lose mid 1v1 outside of ganks and stuff.

The main thing you can do to be better at being a mage is practice skill shots (lots of mages use them like Ahri, Anivia, Heimer, etc...). I also recommend you just stick to 2-3 mages and practice them constantly. Don't be switching mages so often until you get the hang of it. Find a few mages you like and stick to them and just keep practicing. That's how I got much better at mid.

no its called trade out you pent marks for ad marks, simply to help your last hitting. thats what a lot of people do your trading what 8 magic pent for like 10 ad which will malke your last hitting really good

When I play melee, it's like "I'll walk up to THAT minion and... oops, it died before I got there," because I'm used to ranged characters.

Well if you hate the mana regen and cdr builds a lot of mages have then here are some that don't really need it: Diana Fizz Kennen Katarina

Honestly, you're not going to be good with every type of character. I'm not good with close combat types, and I love magic types. Strengths and weaknesses, preferences and inclinations, you know? Sometimes it's just about what type of person you are.
