Riot, Proactive Counter Jungling and its counterparts are inefficacious.

Let me first clarify what it is. Counter jungling (by definition) is the act of taking neutral jungle camps from the opposing team's side (usually leaving 1 small value monster behind so he has to clear it for it to respawn) in order to set the enemy jungler behind in time efficiency, experience and gold.

I feel counter jungling isn't rewarding enough to warrant the risk, time, pressure/presence that you sacrifice in order for it to be a viable strategy at the moment. What are the rewards?

You gain

  • Gold
  • Experience
  • Vision
  • Map pressure*

Enemy Jungler loses

  • Gold
  • Experience
  • Vision
  • Time
  • Map pressure*

What are the risks if you die?

You lose

  • Gold
  • Experience
  • Vision
  • Map pressure*
  • Time

Enemy(s) gains

  • Gold
  • Experience
  • Vision
  • Map pressure*

Map Pressure- A deceptively large variable that limits your ability to gain a lead or recover (i.e push lanes, play aggressive, secure objectives, roam to other lanes etc.)

Counter jungling (in its current state) is something you or your team usually only does reactively as a win-more strategy when there is little to no risk (i.e after an ace or when there is already a large gold disparity). It would be nice if it was a viable option to use proactively.

The current jungle and meta is very unforgiving to most anything or anyone that is tuned toward this play style whether it be champions (nunu is a special snowflake), items or players. Even punishing success with all the catch-up mechanisms currently in the game and jungle size. This is further exacerbated by the sheer power disparity between early game junglers and every other jungler that CONTINUES to dominate.

TL;DR Proactive Counter Jungling is basically High-Risk no reward. Keep in mind this is mainly aimed toward Solo Q play. Competitive...is the same story

Nunu Or you can make it an entire strategy.

I feel like the main reason anyone even picks Nunu, his saving grace if you will, is his massive AS and MS steroid he contributes to the teams carries. In other words the utility he brings in his kit and play style are his desirable attributes more often than not. His consume is great but Kalista can do the same thing with her rend and more effectively it's not really Nunu himself by any stretch of imagination that makes him viable at all.

His AS is definitely the main reason. But his control over the map is despicable to play against. If you show yourself in a lane, he can take half of your jungle, take a dragon, while all the time setting up deep wards to have more vision on you so he can do that over and over again. It's just cruel.

You know, that's a really strong point. In light of that, I agree that there need to be more negatives to being counterjungled, but not to the point where only early invade junglers are successful (otherwise we see the return of Lee sin dominating the meta since anyone who can't 1v1 him early would auto-lose).
