How many times does Riot have to change things for people to realize that they DO listen?

woobee··54 votes·1,735 views

Every time there's a new patch with a long-awaited and highly requested feature, you always hear the same phrase.

"Finally, Riot listens to us."

What the hell? This cycle of resolution and passive-aggressive gratitude is ridiculous and needs to stop. This forum exists for a reason. It's not a hole Riot wants players to sit in to leave them alone. You aren't just complaining to a brick wall. Riot isn't completely malevolent towards us. And, like it or not, Riot is a business who has an interest in making a profit. Part of that profit comes from players in their games, which extends to following with what the players want.

Don't act so surprised when Riot wants their game to succeed.

This is true, I feel like the people that say "RIOT NEVER LISTENS TO US" are the ones that dont give good and reasonable suggestions

They think 'the change I wanted didn't happen, therefore no one heard it'.

People can hear you without agreeing with you and bending to your will.

People wan't something to be nerfed that is obviously what should be in their eyes. Who knew Caitlyn's headshot and traps were her most essential part of her kit? Literally anyone who thought about it. But to the boards they should be removed completely. Who knew that the strongest part of a champion's kit is what is designed to be their core kit? Who knew riot spent months designing a champion but the boards want to change the thing that balances them to where the champion is either OP or nothing at all, all in the week of their release? I admit, sometimes riot overdoes the numbers. Sometimes they over do them. But Ivern needed Daisy like Azir needs his soldiers. They balance the champion and make them playable but not overbearing.

You're more right than you think.

In fact anyone who is salty from a good change (100% good for ex:) usually is a toxic type of player that goes negative Nancy at a lot of things. In lol and Irl

7.11 was a decent patch, but WHY does it take so long? Some of these changes have been asked for months, and months, and months, and.....

When you understand the fickle nature of programming code, maybe you'll understand why your need for instant gratification is utterly impossible.

La Belle Sauvage1 votes

Exactly.

MuffledGarbage2 votes

depends highly on the type of code used.

riot(as most game companies do) use a custom code program for the whole league engine which might slow production down in some cases, yes, but in cases of something like numbers for a champ that's over/under-tuned?

The number tuning is almost easy as pie...

Damn, you really are either naive or new here. This attitude exists for a reason, Riot takes FAR too long to ever act in the interests of their playerbase or accept any feedback at all about game balance. It takes huge outcry on boards and reddit for them to make changes, and often they do it badly.Rengar

Yo there is a good type of demands the player base should do ands a good encouragement us players should give to Riot For doing FAR more than last patch.

Why be covertly hating on them when they do something good? Ex: Someone does something good for you to make up the bad. You punish them? So they do better? What? It doesn't come out as a positive act it seems like you don't want them to do good.

Here's the correct thing to do.

Yo Riot Games Gj with patch 7.11. It was awesome very much loved 7.11 summary All in all great one. Now that you've done that can you tell us more about the change on ____ or a rework for Urgot? And I would like you to give Ex:Yorick a skin Please respond if you Can Riot -Toodles

There EZ you don't need to be angry at them for what good productive change they did.

Give credit where credit is due. -Paper

Yo Riot Games, Gj with deeply fucking up Rengar, you really took all the principles of good game design and his identity and said "fuck that shit" before coming up with the pile of shit that is his rework. Now that you've done that can you tell us more about the change on runes? They're really fucking expensive and have a huge impact on gameplay whilst lacking clarity and being a huge gate to new players, or perhaps a rework for Urgot? Because a champ that isn't a balancing issue TOTALLY needs a rework more than someone like Yasuo has a very binary state in the meta, scales far too well with small item changes and has an unhealthy gameplay pattern in terms of how it feels to play against him as an enemy. Yasuo is genuinely like Rengar, he has the same problems, Rengar needed a rework riot did it awfully and recieved any criticism of any kind awfully. You can say all you want about us having "good communication" with riot, but I wrote multiple 2k+ word arguments on what was good/bad and needed to change about Rengars rework within 2 months of the rework's release and the most I've seen from any constructive post about Rengar is a riot employee who worked on the rework saying "Q: Nice meme" to either piss us all off or display some kind of behavioural disorder he must have had.

I'll give credit when I feel like this company gives a shit about it's players, follows it's own rules (tryndamere the CEO was caught getting eloboosted twice) and actually listens to it's community beyond lazily browsing the shitty memes that circulate front page boards and subreddit.

The "RIOT NEVER LISTENS TO US" argument is only used by people who're always searching for something to complain about.

I suggest you ignore it.

Riot ends up putting in about as much changes without feedback than they do with feedback, and the ones without are often pretty controversial. It's no wonder there's a cycle.

Well... 7.11 was a decent patch, but, WHY did it take so long? I mean, some of these changes were being asked for months, and months, and months.

doiminat0r36003 votes

The thing that I see often is that the boards are like an echo chamber. People can generally agree on something on one post then on another, one person makes an anti Yasuo post and the front page will be full of them for the next 2 weeks.

Someone spends hours arguing their unpopular point but gets bombarded with downvotes for no real reason other than people dislike the title. Others post some sarcastic remark and get to the front page for a week.

Some have unpopular opinions but have good reasons for them. Nobody cares about the reasons. They just care about the subject. The boards are the most unanalytical bunch of people I've ever seen.

They always use the same excuse too. "Why is urf getting so much hate when a few days ago everyone was begging for it?" "The boards aren't all one person" But they act like it. It's either you're on the bandwagon or you never see front page. I made a lot of stupid posts a while ago to go with the circlejerk at the time. They made it to the front page of Gameplay atleast three times. Out of the 5 or 6 things I posted saying that Caitlyn or Yasuo is OP (Which they obviously have counters), they made it to the front page. Then when I post about why they are balanced or how to play around these champions, I never see the light of day because Yasuo has "Unlimited dashes and is literally unkillable" and Caitlyn's traps can't be walked around.

People on this site are stupid. I would go elsewhere but I want to try to bring people thought. I want them to think about what they're saying. But it currently feels like I'm talking to a brick wall that does nothing except stare me in the face until I reach a black hole of every good thing that has ever actually come on the boards.

They definitely do listen, even when they don't respond to every post, they DO read every post.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Oh come on it's ridiculous to think they read every post...

Warhammer Titan6 votes

I doubt every posts, but probably the ones that are in HOT

Doozku4 votes

All of the big posts, possible even some smaller posts. They definitely don't respond to every post. Really salty posts, like the one I made, are ones that they'd never respond to. Because if they did, they'd get flamed by all of the people in the QQ.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

I mean, they didn't for years, and they are finally delivering. They developed quite a few trust issues by ignoring us over the years, so it is going to take some time for people to come back around.

This are remnants of sheepling's cries from the time Riot actually didn't listen to us, in Seasons 3-6. About four years. Give it some time. The sheeps will understand soon enough. Maybe we need a pro player PSA from Faker or something.

JaxMoonStealer1 votes

The plural of sheep is sheep.

Automated Riven1 votes

sheeplings would likely refer to little sheep that are more of an annoyance then anything impactful. Idk, thats how I understood it.

Little sheep that cant think for themselves without a bigger sheep bandwagoning first.

JaxMoonStealer1 votes

Oh, I was referring to the fourth sentence, where he says "sheeps".

It's not how many times they make changes that we ask for, it's how many times they listen to us when we ask them not to make an obviously bad change. And that's been maybe once.

"RIOT NEVER LISTENS TO THE REEEALLL PLAYERS!" Next day/week/patch their complaints are addressed "WOW RIOT FINALLY LISTENING AFTER 10000 YEARS!"

Side rant: @People actually BASHING runes reforged cause "lol took them long enough"

They wanted to do this probably forever but couldn't find a way to without tilting all of the annoying players. :/ Imagne if like 2 seasons ago riot just took away all runes and only gave us keystone masteries. People woulda SHIT themselves in rage, but they didn't. they used KS masteries as a trial and error sorta thing, and now bam! We got a system in place that starting next season that's simple, free, and might actually get some creative playstyles seen. Oh and ISNT SUPER INTIMIDATING NEW PLAYERS IN THE GAME!!!! 10/10 rito good job.

Ya. I got a Red Response to a week old Post. Sooooo I can definitely see that they listen. Ohhhhh and there was that time I asked for a Steraks buff during the Tank update and it was on the PBE in less than an hour

EQ Fidgetspinner1 votes

Even if they don't ready every single post, if the majority of players are requesting reasonable certain changes or additions, 99% of the time it'll be implemented. There are so many examples of this being a reoccurring process. I mean come on, they brought back Graves's cigar thanks to our memes.

Even though what you say is 100% true. I'll retort by saying : I'll believe that riot listens when they revert Rengar.

My 3 main reasons why they should rework /revert him:

  1. Most Rengar mains hate playing him and complain about a revert/ rework.

  2. His current playstyle doesnt even let you play like an Assassin, you usually just end up going bruiser (Warriors cleaver tank)

  3. He's a lot more clunkier to use and doesn't feel good to play (This one is based on my personal opinion I cant say others directly said that).

Note: If needed I can go into a lot more detail about these reasons and how they intertwine with one another but it basically comes down to the fact that as a Jungler, sometimes I just want to be the Apex predator and assassinate people and feel the thrill of the hunt, but isnce the rework, playing Rengar hasnt felt that fun even once (Even when he was broken with lethality. And before someone says "Just play Khazix" He's nothing compared to the season 6 Rengar I got to know so well.

Note 2: I do know they added counter play to him to make him healthier but to sacrifice the assassin playstyle / his identity? Feels like a bad trade for Rengar mains. but yeha imma stop here since htis post isnt about Rengar xD

just 2, restore galio to the game (not to be confused with the new champ who stole his name) and revert tarics re-work (you can keep the looks but revert his old kit)
