Riot confirms ekko is broken

JAGMAG··13 votes·7,462 views

So i was watching bjerg stream last night and eh hoped on Skype with Riot zirene. bjerg was playing as ekko and commented on how broken he was to which zirene admitted he was incredibly strong. when bjerg jokingly said i thought Riot employees had to say everything is balanced zirene replied with "yeah im not going to lie to you like that" he did go on to say there is counter play/strategies against ekko but he did admit that hes not balanced.

your thoughts?

he needs base damage tweaks and slightly lower scaling,

he goes top lane and just makes it hell for the enemy top laner because they cant rush MR against him.

his Q does too much damage at early ranks, makes it too easy to farm. his R has way too much scaling, tone it down by at least 20% of what it is now. over 1000+ to all targets in a large radius is incredible.

And tone down his shield and Q slow. imo at least.

JAGMAG2 votes

yeah he seems to be able to be abused by ranged mages in the mid lane such as viktor idk about top i had a game were one fed his face of to an irealia but that might have been just because he was bad and not because its a bad match up

. . why can't top laners build MR? That's what the enemy did when I took Ekko top.

His Q doesn't do nearly as much damage as Ahri's Q--a similar spell. The cost of it should maybe go up so he has to use it wisely.

Celosar1 votes

Ahri has 35% AP scaling on her Q, Ekko has 20% and 60%.

Those numbers aren't the same and Ahri is NOT higher. It also doesn't have a slow for that matter.

JustMyBassCannon5 votes

Ahri's Q has 35% magic going out, then 35% true coming back.

So, while Dolphin gets +10% more AP scaling and a slow, Foxtail gets true damage and can get health sustain out of her Q.

im just gunna throw this out there. ahri is crazy strong and OP and needs nerfs.

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=CrestKnight 6-0 with ahri, 8.1 KDA (used to be 17KDA but 1 bad game)

http://www.lolking.net/champions/ahri 53% win rate with a 17% pick rate.

i play her a ton, shes horribly OP and an all around solid pick with absolutely no down side, shes a riskless champion.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

53% win rate is not obscene. It's within the range of being considered average.

17% pick rate is only above average popularity. If pick rates were 100% equalized, you'd see everyone with ~8% pick rates, but because there are champions that are underpowered, unpopular and/or not strong in the current meta, 12% is more often going to be considered an average pick rate.

Nice statistics, but I could care less that you're better with Ahri than your opponents are at playing against Ahri.

His Q is much slower then Ahri's on the return, much easier to dodge and avoid the higher hit part.

And his ult is tricky to hit. If you in a team fight long enough for your clone to catch up without dying, then its the enemy's fault for not bursting him down in the half second it would take.

His Q is fine imo, his ult I agree with.

Someone in Riot admits that Ekko is strong, not broken. As in, his stats are a bit higher than they should be. Bjerg was calling him broken, and Bjerg is not Riot.

Lugg1 votes

Well considering that Bjerg might be one of the top 5 players in the world, I think his opinion carries a LOT of weight.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Sure, I'm not saying his opinion is invalid just because he's not a part of Riot. But I am separating facts from what the OP stated.

And, since Bjergsen didn't actually say what he felt made Ekko "broken," I'm going to assume until proven otherwise that he was misusing it for the sake of calling him overpowered. Because everyone has done that at some point, and it fits this situation.

MrBuffington2 votes

In my time watching him, bjerg also tends to exaggerate on stream. It's pretty bad practice making judgements based on someone's random offhand comments. Ekko is over tuned, sure, but I don't think his kit is unbalanceable (the percent health damage feels unnecessary though)

JAGMAG1 votes

he does attend to exaggerate but when you have 3 big name guys together all agreeing (i cant remember the other guy he played top in the game thou) and bjerg is like look at this shit as he proceeds to 1 shot the adc and support and lay massive damage on a third and then walk away when the rest of their team shows up champion it is sorta broken yes hes bjerg and he is one of the best so a slightly op champ is going to be broken in his hands but does not mean this is not a broken champ in his hands. now im not an ekko hater just wary of him atm from what ive seen you literally cant keep him down as soon as he finishes core items dosent matter how far behind he is he just starts wrecking

MrBuffington1 votes

Maybe just a difference in the way we understand different terms, but to me, 'broken' means impossible to balance through numbers, because a certain game mechanic is inherently problematic and well always either be too strong or too weak. I think Ekko snowballs too hard and his numbers are too high (and the percent health damage is unnecessary, not necessarily over powered, just that he doesn't need it), but I don't think there's a fundamental problem with his kit and how it works. Given how riot was pushing his utility side I'm pretty disappointed how Ekko just feels like an assassin, especially when he snowballs.

JAGMAG2 votes

i understand broken as in incredibly overpowered like both a good kit and good numbers which ekko has

JAGMAG1 votes

he said why for several reasons including his ult but i wasn't going to put any of that without using direct quotes which meant i would have to look up a recording of the stream and watch the entire game again so that i could acutely repeat everything everyone said...or i could be lazy give you the gist and let you look up the game and listen if it interest you that much. and to were zirene never used the word "broken" its obvious by listening to him talk about it that he feels it is unbalanced.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Unbalanced and broken are different terms, as are overpowered, toxic, anti-fun and a slew of other terms used to define different aspects of imbalance.

Overpowered is what Ekko is, plain and simple. Like when Graves or Orianna was released, his numbers are too high to justify. Even with the delays and the awkward targeting, Ekko's numbers are too high for when a player does master controlling him.

His kit isn't poorly designed or ridiculously overloaded. All of the tools he has are counter-balanced by how they function. The only real problem is that he needs his base and scaling numbers lowered.

Cavemantero1 votes

he's broken not simply op. the kit is simply too good for the stats he gets from itemization and the stupid %damage...not being able to kill him with anyone being an assassin is what makes him broken.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Thread necromancy at it's finest.

You should look at how old a post is before commenting on it.

And Ekko's still not broken. He's not even overpowered anymore. If you're not able to kill him, it's because you're trying to fight him like he's an oversized minion instead of, y'know, an enemy champion with a unique kit and tools that don't follow the common convention. In League, you learn how to counter-play, or you lose and cry about it.

Drunk Rummate2 votes

Zirene is on the balance team?

JAGMAG2 votes

as far as i know hes not he just works for riot and most the time you will never here any riot employ call something in LOL unbalanced (untill they nerf it then they will admit it in the patch notes)

Drunk Rummate1 votes

Then I don't see how his statement regarding balance carries any more weight than any other guy who plays and watches the game a lot.

I mean from what I can see Ekko is probably going to get some slight nerfs, but people are definitely overblowing his strengths on here.

JAGMAG1 votes

fair enough. my main problem is when all the other assassins are getting nerfed like zed why make a very strong champ that combines zed Diana and vayne into one champion XD my original concern was his passive but they but a cd timer on that so im not as worried still his burst is a bit op

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

He is an assassin. He is supposed to burst really fast. Wouldn't be considered an assassin if he didn't.

JAGMAG1 votes

other assassins have high mechanics or at least a combo they need to pull of i haven't played ekko yet but from what everyone i know who has played him says hes really easy to play and once you get lichbane and a couple ap items its gg versus say a Leblanc who can burst you but cant carry a game very well

SpongebobIsLife1 votes
  • Ok he has both the high mechanics and the combos, and unless you are very ahead of the lb that should never happen. And lichbane and a couple of ap items would take you to about late game in which every adc or apc / assassin has insane burst potential.

GaleWinUnleashed2 votes

If they just drop his base damages and scaling a bit, I think he'll be pretty close to the original vision of an assassin that can't 100-0 you. This means he would have to either poke you down or wait for other opportunities to engage on a weak target.

MLDzXnRRR2 votes

I don't see how Ekko can lane against any good ranged champion. Every game Ekkos feed vs ranged so far. His earlygame is decent only vs other melee, but Zed, Diana, Akali, Riven destroy him.

lol

i don't think Zirene works anywhere near the balance team so he could come out and say something like "Taric is the most overpowered support in the game" and it would still not mean much if anything

JAGMAG1 votes

lol ok then hes still a high level player and an annalist of the game he knows the game weather or not he personally balances the champions or not means nothing the guys who do balance champoins obviously aren't perfect at there jobs other wise we would never have nerfs and buffs because all champoins would be balanced.

how is that any different from some random challenger player saying the exact same thing? he working at Riot doesn't mean anything. It's one dudes opinion on something

once again what does that have to do with anything? that's like Krepo saying that he is broken. It doesn't matter. You also say this like they can't be wrong and just because they said it it's absolute, it isn't. You also didn't answer me the question, how is him saying that any different from any random challenger player saying it? they are high in the ladder so they know the game and it's more or less their job to know the game if they want to maintain said position in the ladder even if they are not in the balance team

JAGMAG1 votes

Because he works for RIOT so he knows things this isint the first time a rioter has commented on something not in his department and I also respect what other challenger players say as long as their not a known troll to give you a real life example at my work if one of the machines isn't working right I can't fix it I don't work on them but I know it's broke and no one questions how I know it's broke

I DON't CARE IF HE WORKS FOR RIOT OR NOT! it's the exact same thing whether or not he works for Riot or you are a random challenger player. If that is your only response then sorry to say this but YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT. Riot is known for not always being right, they are known for making SEVERAL mistakes and they are known for FUCKING THINGS UP! so unless you plan on giving me another reason other than "he works at Riot" DO NOT RESPOND

Lol they don't but they never admit it till after they patch there like yeah that was broken we fixed it thou but before the patch they won't call it broken
