Why pick Viktor and not Malzahar or Annie?

Why would I pick Viktor in a ranked game... if I had the choice to pick either Malzahar or Annie?

Viktor is an immobile mage but if I'm going to go immobile... why wouldn't I rather have Annie (more reliable burst) or Mal (ridiculous point and click zoning potential and tons of easy to land CC and cheap damage).

I mean... maybe I'm just playing Viktor wrong but I feel like a less powerful version of Annie walking around getting killed without the option of just blasting them with my whole combo if I get caught and killing them.

You have ''poke'' with your E but it doesn't have the range of a Lux or a Ziggs and if they hit me with anything I'm almost always instal-deleted because of how squishy I am.

So why would I play Viktor?

Viktor is a much safer and more flexible AOE teamfight mage. Annie and Malz have much more focused kits which means they can't fit in every team comp and can have some awful match-ups.

Its seems like your having mechanical trouble playing Viktor which means either you need to practice your positioning with him or stick to much easier champs like Annie. He may be one of the strongest mids currently but the doesn't mean you have to play him.

What is his burst combo sequence?

Viktor doesn't really have a press-and-forget sequence like Malzahar or Annie.

Viktor's low cooldowns and in-fight mobility (from his upgraded Q) lead him more towards a sustained damage playstyle. While you can drop all of your abilities on a target to burst them, you tend to focus on dealing damage to whichever targets you can safely.

His immediate burst damage is probably a little lower than Annie or Malzahar, but his utility and sustained damage is better in most situations.

idk they kind of fill a similar purpose. annie is less sustained damage but viktor and malz have more sustained damage but less burst. idk if the enemy team has mobile champs. play annie. if the enemy team has immobile squishy comps play malz or viktor. i mean nobody plays every champion we just sometimes play different ones because its gets boring playing the same one over and over

Viktor is basically in every LCS game. Try again. He's got sick waveclear and burst.

Viktor scales better than them with his passive item. He is also better vs squishies. Annie now is all about the bear, Malza is not a burst mage with poke/waveclear like Viktor.

Viktor is one of the strongest mid laners right now due to his instant waveclear with his laser, and his high AOE damage. He is kind of a mixture of malz and annie, taking the strong AOE of Annie and the lane pressure and waveclear from malz to make one strong champion.

how do you deal it though?

Chaos Storm seems to take too long to doll out the damage; his attacks seem to require him to get really close.

Your CC from the Gravitational Field is so unreliable.

You basically poke with Q and E until they get a bit below 3/4 then you can burst them if you land your combo. Use the movespeed from your Q to get close then R+E and proc your Q on them and poof they are gone.

What? You can't burst them down from 100%?

But Annie can unless they bought MR?

I don't know if I've ever seen an Annie burst someone down without her ultimate, yet Viktor does it all the time once he gets rolling.

Annie's basic ability combo deals 470 (+165% AP) Viktor's basic ability combo deals 650 (+210% AP) (+100% AD)

Add a Lich Bane (which you'll proc with your Q's Auto anyway) and you increase that combo damage by a lot.

The issue is that is ALL annie can do. She bursts someone, maybe kills them if they get no MR, then stands there trying to proc a stun doing pretty meh damage. Viktor can probably do the same amount of damage as annie, maybe a little less, but after his first rotation he still provides meaningful damage and utility to a fight, something annie doesn't really do.
