Melee Champion Pathing and "Micro/input-lag" with good connection?
As someone who often plays melee champions I have been noticing a decline in the quality of my micromanagement within the game. Particularly referring to pathing and lag regards to my inputs. I only am posting in hopes that others who have had similar experiences can offer advice on how to improve my situation or possibly hear sentiments from others with similar issues. I'll just go through my thought process on how I've been trying to evaluate my problem to where I am stuck at.
So naturally I start with myself. Possibly there is something wrong with me as a player. I am no professional, however, I am not out of practice. I play league daily and my different bodily states with regards to reaction time and precision I will say average out. I mean that sometimes I'm tired. Sometimes I'm on the ball. Long story short what I am saying is that I play enough to not consider myself out of practice and that my performance averages itself out. So I have elected to rule out myself in this particular situation for now.
Next I look at my internet connection. When I am at home I have about a 70-80 ping. Right now I am at school and a short while ago I was averaging the same, around 80 ping. Recently here at school my average ping has jumped to about 100-110. Whenever I have connectivity issues with League of Legends and the game's client the issues are EXCLUSIVE to the game. What I mean by this is I can quickly browse the internet in a flash and I can connect to other games no problem WHILE I am having connectivity issues with League of Legends. Throughout my years I've had more connectivity issues like this than I'd care to. Random disconnects that seem to not be user side. I will say, though, I can play plenty of games all the way through. My current issues is NOT staying connected to games. One more silly thing I'd like to add is that a personal "test" of mine when I have connectivity issues with games is to rule out that it is my side, I go to a porn site that I would consider crudely coded and see how fast it takes me to load and start a random video. If is can load and view a simple video there at normal speeds I also use that to rule out any issues on my end. The conclusion I draw from this part of my analysis is that the issues I am experiencing are not user side. It feels like no amount of industrial grade fiber optic connection will correct this "micro-lag" and input lag that I experience. So after this conclusion I move on to my next problem solving idea.
(I'D LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME TO REQUEST THAT RIOT USE SOME OF ITS MONEY THAT IS ABLE TO FUND AN ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE POOL TO INSTALL DATA CENTERS FOR THE MORE EASTERN AREAS OF THE U.S. IE MIDWEST, EAST COAST, ETC.)
Anyways, I now turn my attention to Riot's side. If I cannot find any issues on my end there must be something happening on Riot's end. It's so far my only logical answer to my poorly educated conclusions. I am fully aware that League of Legends as a game has been under attack by DDOS attacks for about the past year. Admittedly there has been massive improvement from certain times, however, due to the random and sporadic nature of some of my issues I can only assume that we all still experience the side effects of this issue. This is another reason why I request more data centers to possibly help improve stability. We don't have access to the possible "attacks" on riot servers as users so this is still a rather hollow argument.
Well what about when you experience good connectivity? How about that?
And that is the point in which I am stuck at. Sometimes I still feel like I experience input lag. "Micro-lag" that would be small enough to just write off but enough that in a fast paced and precise game like league it can cause frustrations. The best way for me to describe this is I am 100% connected with an average ping for my location and I still experience issues with my mechanics and micromanagement that feel clunky and stuttery. Is this with the games coding? I am not sure. Some examples would be getting caught on minions, taking strange paths through minions, and one where it seems that two minions are trying to occupy the same space and the game does like this lag jump and places the two minions ahead of their current position.
Overall, I am at a loss for how to really describe my issue without being long winded. Sometimes it feels stuttery and clunky like bad pathing or bad coding, sometimes it feels like connectivity issues like micro lag or other things. It's as if my ping and connection are saying they are good, but they actually aren't. I would just like some advice from someone more knowledgeable on what I can do to handle the issue. As a whole it makes it difficult for me to smooth out my actions like last hitting, auto attacking, orb walking, correct animation canceling, and any other micromanagement and mechanical skills, especially for a melee player.
Anyways thanks for reading my long winded post and offering suggestions if you do!
