Champion reworks and their mains.

So Riot has been doing a lot of reworks and mini updates to champions within the past while, some for better and some for worse (Poppy > Skarner)

I have a question to all you near one trick ponies or mains of these champions. How do you continue to enjoy them or what do you do whwm they get so extremely changed they aren't even the same champion?

I am asking because the sole Champipn i truly had fun playing was Old Yorick, i loved being a true necromancer and wreaking havoc in fights. Now he is just a worse version of Tryndamere.

As a Shen player i can only say this, you have to drag your sword though someone, hit them 3 times and land your taunt to keep them in range for the 3 auto attacks... OR i can just play Maokai and press W on someone, he takes way to much effort to do what a normal tank can do much much easier.

Then they gutted his damage and you can't even trade in lane anymore so idk what im supposed to like.

Yea i actually enjoyed old shen much more, used to be my top lane main. You could farm with q and have a lot of sustain if the enemy laner was winning u could just play def with that. The part I miss the most is the old Q.

I played old Fiora from when I start league ( yes I got her with rp) to 1 week after she got reworked. It completely made her feel so different and wired and really killed my favorite part of league of legends

Old Fiora was less cancerous than new Fiora, while actually being fun to play. Thanks Riot. We really needed that minigame for free true damage and healing.

I agree, as someone who personally prefers to play tanks, its annoying to have to face her when she has max health healing, and max health true damage for just existing. Like i would be okay if it wasn't healing and true damage.

The vast majority of the time, the rework removes what made the champion enjoyable to play. Although for different reasons, and there's exceptions, so I'll give a few examples.

Kassadin Mordekaiser They got kneecapped for doing their job, then riot added several more champions who can do their jobs better as if out of spite.

Sion One of the few reworks I actually approve of, like poppy he was rather abusive in the right hands before his overhaul.

Xerath Sona Syndra They had unique gameplay to begin with, and riot removed it; xerath can no longer counter assassins while crowd controlling himself, sona cannot maintain auras, and syndra no longer requires skill to combo.

Wish they never took away Sona's Aura's. She felt really easy to play & now when I get her, I don't know what to do with her. :/

Agreed, she was a nice champion to play if you wanted to focus on positioning practice. I don't play her outside of aram anymore just because she's not interesting to play anymore. A brief buff she can give allies? Yeah several other supports can do that better.

If i had the chance to have old poppy back, I'd gladly take her back. Old poppy was never considered for any buffs/nerfs changes or BS

her old voice was badass, her passive was amazing, I could always make sure that people who needed to die, died and had fun i don't care if i had 10 awful games if i got to have that 1 Poppy fed game.

New Poppy is fun but she is literally getting ground down with nerfs. to the point she is going to be in a worse state than the old one.

I don't know how old Yorick was much of a necromancer.

Valor Bot2 votes

I think OP is referencing his old ult which allowed him to bring allies back to life for a time, pretty necromancer-ish to me.

Papa Andrei1 votes

AND his entire kit is raising ghouls and his passive is him being stronger with more ghouls

Who is Taliyah1 votes

I have been a Taliyah main ever since her release. The W change back at patch 6.14 changed her entire playstyle. It took me a while to adapt, but I couldn't just stop playing her. I love her design, her kit, her looks, her personality. I would still play her after an entire rework.

Papa Andrei1 votes

I haven't gotten around to playing her outside of OFA, but i love the way she plays, its just nice being able to throw out an entire combo that deals damage, but also acts like a "ward" to most champions.

S0kaX1 votes

I hate new Shen, he's too weak now and his kit is really bad

I loved Taric, and at first I was thrown off by some of the perceived damage loss with his updaye, but I relearned how to play him and I see now how he's still just as threatening as he was before. I just love him so much, I wouldn't dream of abandoning him.

Also, Old Yorick was pretty garbage. The game became a 4v5 after laning because he became invalid.

Papa Andrei1 votes

Actually, i went 2/7 as Yorick plenty of times, and then still one shot the enemy adc (especially vayne, Ghouls don't give two shits bout invisibility.) XD

And i played Old Taric a few times and it was so fun just nonstop 1v1 the 10/0 Rengar and just not caring about them as long as you had mana

Swain player here:

I have mixed feeling about his Update - on the one hand it is well done, his Beatrice feels even more unique, he still feels like the BigBossBird I love to play and his visuals are also better. In Late you have ess problems to deal with. BUT: The update has ALOT of downsides as well.

  • I love toggle Ults, removed. Not for style or gameplay - just because they had no idea how to properly nerf him.
  • His E - once your main Spell you want to max out, now just a green bubble you throw to deal DMG... there are alot of overloaded abilities in the game, and we really dont need more... but this E feels heavily under-loaded!
  • His Power: What the update did - instead of their desire to give a champ clear strenght and weaknes. They made a 180 and REDUCED Swain weaknes resulting in (obviously) him being so much over-powered, they directly nerfed his strenght to stop him.

Swain was this Champ with a pathetic early. Sore Wavecontroll, no mobility, just some tools to prevent engages and some mediocre low rang poke. but if he was good enough to get even into midgame, you became a monster to deal with only capped by your mana-bar essentially working like Energy with no regen except with kills. xD

The update gave him wavecontroll (alot), he got more range and therefore poke! You now have a decent laning and no problems getting into midgame.... (do you see the problem????????). And than they buffed his Mana-Pool directly AND indirectly by Items.... OFC he is OP now! Instantly he's OP needs nerfs! (Who'd expected this? D:) But instead of fixing the problems - they hit his midgame.. his strenght... GJ!

They didn't destroy him - he still feels good to play (although some matchups went upside down... looking at Yasuo). But I question the Value of the update... His Q feels less clunky - his R feels more clunky. His laning feels better his mid feels worse. he went from a low-pick-high-win-rate Mid-Top to low-pick-high-win-rate Mid/Top. Profit?

I guess I'd not revert the update completely - but I'd fix his Ult. (And maybe his E, but that's hard without direct buffs)

Papa Andrei1 votes

I liked old Swain because you did feel like a good dps drain tank because all the skills were high cd but targetted. (except for root) and now hes trying to be dps, but only occasionly, and he heals, but only for a little bit.

Titanium702 votes

yeah ^^ nice tl.dr to be honest =P That's thing I tried to explain with his strenght and weaknes Riot messed up a little. ;)

They reworked and "tuned" so many of my favorite champions that I no longer play the game.

Looking at it now, League is an entirely different game than it was 2-3 Seasons ago. And I mean ENTIRELY different.

Papa Andrei1 votes

I started as soon as the juggernaut update hit, and holy crap the game is so different from even then.

Magi Mayvin1 votes

The Anivia rework completely ruined her, she was my main, now I main kha'zix, and yes I would still go back to Anivia if it would be the old one :(

Big Lincoln1 votes

Reworks that change the core of the champion are a betrayal to the people who actually dedicate to the champion. There hasn't been a single relaunch or rework yet that could have been done without completely altering the champion's playstyle and player base.

Titanium702 votes

Except Sion, he had no Core. =P

But, yeah - you're right.

Papa Andrei1 votes

You punny motherfucker xD

Papa Andrei1 votes

I think the only ones that did hold the core of a champion would be Poppy. She feels almost the same, but just better
