Is there a reason why Shen is getting his passive shield and Q %health damage nerf?

so we will not give the room to put the champ in a different role then what he is? does this mean that shen will be the first character in a while with only one role?

It's on the PBE and is looking to stay in place when the patch drops. Rito doesn't want Shen to play even in his role with this shield hit. His Q doesn't actually bring a lot but the nerf is kinda random just as the passive nerf is uncalled for.

My guess is that they don't want to see him in Worlds because his lane is visually slow and boring (while being mechanically intense to those who actually know how to play him.) What's LCS without big, flashy plays?

Well, I mean, they've finally acknowledged that Yasuo needs some changes, granted he's been slowly smoldering for a long time and only recently hit critical mass thanks to what was initially a troll build.

Expect hits to the items after worlds and Rito leaving all of the champ nerfs in place even though 99% of the problem is the items anyway. It's been their MO since beta.

This upcoming patch is the largest singular nerf he's had since release. I agree that most of it has been hyperbole though, bruiser Yasuo does shit for damage and his only saving grace was that he could stick like peanut butter. He still took a really long time to kill anything that isn't a pure mage.

God forbid a champion be countered by learning how to deny CS and freezing lanes....

Shen's a champ who if he is strong in lane he's going to be either Pick or Ban or at least top tier in competitive because of what his ult is. There has been a decent amount of prioritization on him in pro games and I assume thats the cause of the nerfs.

wouldn't it make more sense tho to buff other champs to that level of want and play rather then tare down that one this way everyone has good champs to play?
