Aatrox Lane Items

So I'm just looking for some clarification on something here pertaining to percentages and Aatrox's heal in particular.

His W heal increases in strength when he's lower on health, based on a percentage right? So would that mean building a Warmog's early would increase the effectiveness of his heal then if he had built a Randuin's or Visage earlier?

Obviously if you have to worry about an AD or an AP you should build the ones with the proper defenses, but if you're just looking to get health quickly and you don't have any particular threats on the other team would it be more beneficial to build Warmog's over the other two common tank items on Aatrox?

Visage is the best way to increase the effectiveness of his healing. But, all Warmogs would really do is cause you to use more HP for your abilites and have a slightly higher amount of HP till the increased healing would take effect. Wouldn't really increase the effectiveness of it in my opinion.

And I don't think it would be more effective in all honesty. I feel like Warmog's is like a 4th or 5th item for the most part.

Oh yeah that's true, would make his abilities cost more health as well, would kind of negate the effectiveness boost of his healing lol

Well thnx for pointing that out for me :)

No. His W increases the effectiveness of its heal when you're below a certain amount of health. Since Aatrox is a dive champion, you want to build tanks as your second item. A great build path is Hydra > Randuins. Hydra gives you excellent wave clear for split pushing and Randuins gives you tankiness for team fights.

Well obviously you want a tank item second, that's not the question here since Warmog's is also a tank item, just more focused on health and sustain instead of reduction of damage.

Also his heal improving below a certain amount of health is the exact same thing as it being below a specific percentage, since the amount it must be below is calculated by his maximum health.

When Aatrox is below 50% maximum health, his W heals triples. This only scales with bonus AD, not maximum health; Warmog's would have no effect on it. Warmog's would only really leave you with higher health before fights, but that doesn't seem to be what you are looking for.

If you want to increase the effectiveness of the heal, you are better off building AD or resistance and getting enough health to survive burst damage. Randuin's Omen and Spirit Visage are among the best items for increasing Aatrox's survivability because they provide a good mix of health and resistances. In addition, Randuin's Omen provides a slow to let Aatrox stick to targets and Spirit Visage increases the effectiveness of all healing by 20%.

Due to the nature of Aatrox's kit, I don't think Warmog's Armor would be more effective than Randuin's Omen or Spirit Visage as a second item in many situations.

Yeah as I said in the OP Randuin's and Visage are the current go to items, I know what they do and they're currently the main items you get 2nd and 3rd.

But thnx for the insight on Warmog's at least, I know the heal scales on AD and was more curious as to whether having more health so you have more when you hit that 50% threshold would be better. But as was pointed out previously having more health means higher costs on abilities as well.

So the benefits from the other two far outweigh what I thought might have been a bonus in gold efficiency.
