Why go to towards drag AFTER its been taken?

Why is it that 98% of the games in lower elo, when enemy team has already taken the drag (and its very obvious by the screaming sound it makes) that people on my team who are either at base or halfway across the map still ping to go towards it and start running there themselves?

For baron, I can understand that this might be appropriate sometimes to stop the recall and kill off as many people with the buff as possible, but going to drag when its dead and everyone on enemy team is either obviously still at full health or they are long gone, doesn't make any sense at all...

Is there a valid reason why people are doing this, that I am not seeing, or are they just dumb...?
