Why is autofill even a thing?

> Plays support for pretty much the entire season, never worries about autofill. > Decides to try poppy top for a few games > 2 games later; "Your autofill shield is no longer protecting you"

Like.. tthe fuck? can't we have some upgrade to the "Play 1 Sup game and get 2 Shields" that doesnt accumulate? imagine a Shield-Token which you earn by filling or Supping, and then can opt in and out of autofill. (Or just remove it entirely)

Autofill could be fixed easily in a few ways:

  1. Allow people to select 4 roles and eliminate 1. This speeds up queues and reduces potential toxicity.
  2. Allow AF shield stacking
  3. Reward people who select Fill as their only role. Similar to how WoW's dungeon finder rewards tanks and healers occasionally.
  4. People in their Promos should only be able to get their lead role.
  5. Reduce the loss of LP for auto-fill players.

Perfect example. Even though some people wouldn't like this post, MANY people WANT autofill to be REMOVED anyways.

I think the best overall way to solve this problem would be to change the rank system to assign rank by role. I had heard a rumor that this was supposed to happen next year, but I'm not sure that is true.

If players were given rank by role, getting auto-filled would place them against players with the same rank as their rank in that role, making the match more fair.

A person who has climbed their way to Diamond as a Mid Laner is not necessarily a Diamond Support, so they are going to severely handicap their team when they get auto-filled into this role.

They are also significantly less likely to even attempt to improve their skills within this role because they would only have the option of facing off against players who are significantly better.

This would actually give players an incentive to queue up as roles that they are not as skilled in because the matchmaking would be more accurate.

As someone that likes playing single player games and thus wants to only do solo Q most of the time, i really dislike the idea of not having a Garen -ted role. I i want a role, i always pick it and then pick Mid, because then i am more likely to get my primary roll. I only know how to play like 3 champs mid lane, played like 5 games all year mid.
