Why Bother Playing At All?

CrypticShantie··51 votes·3,063 views

To all the people who /FF just because they don't have the lead... Why? What's the point in even playing the game at all if you're just going to give up so easily every time it starts to look bad? One team is bound to get an advantage at some point in the game. That is in fact... the game. That's worse than having a remake. It's like playing 20 minutes of a close game then deciding "I'm not 20/0 /ff /ff /ff". I mean hell, they didn't even secure an inhibitor yet. Farm up and let's come back!

If the team has coordination and is trying, and isn't being toxic.. and isn't down too far, then yeah, giving up is stupid.

The second people start "?" ping spamming, screaming "WHY WERE YOU THERE?????" PING PING PING PING and being pricks in chat, I am farming until the nexus explodes.

It's not about muting, it's the fact people are going to purposely not help others so they can yell at them after they die. And tryharding when your team spends more time typing on their keyboard than actually playing and trying to win is one of the most frustrating experiences, in this game or otherwise.

I hate the people who purposefully don't help their team just so they can rage. They are the worst of the worst... Basically another form of intentional feeding imo.

^ This. If we can't play as a team then there is no point in playing. ff and lets move on to the next game.

Actually, it's a pretty good opportunity to learn how to deal with crappy a teammate or two (or three or four), not to mention practicing learning vital skills like playing at a disadvantage and not tilting.

It depends on what you're in the game for.

If we're 25-5, down 3 towers, 2 drags and they're knocking on our doors, I want out. I don't care if there's hope for turning a fight over. I'm not an LCS player, stop holding me hostage because you want to finish that game. You get one teamfight before I toss in the towel, if we win I'll try harder, if we lose it I'm surrendering as it's not worth it in my opinion because we're either weak or lack coordination.

Do you know how stressful it is in times I've been forced to 4v5? How about 2v5 cause our bot and top lost hard while I'm struggling? Nobody wants to drag out a match if they can avoid it and I'm one of them. Now, I'm not saying I give up at first blood, yet I would be insane to think there's going to be comeback if none of us are able to get at a tower.

I think he's referring to the scrubs that die once in lane and cry that the game is over.

If you're 0-4 in Top, but your mid is breaking even and you're winning bot and jungle, your tears will go unheeded. Everyone else is winning.

Yes I am, but it still doesn't take away from the fact of what I've had to go through for the past month. I've doubled my warding, suffer PTSD and have my eyes glued to that minimap. 5-man bot lane ganks that costs a tower, so much burst from every champion, Zac and Poppy with CotC, kiting, pinging. There is only so much you can do and every person has one game where it's a complete shit fest. Don't even dare tell me that you haven't had a game where you were getting your ass beat in.

But you will be 3-20 next game and the one after that. You just spend your whole night playing 20 minute games. How will you ever learn how to come back?

You must not have played very many games, because you can absolutely come back from a 3-20 game. Kills don't define the win.

Anidan3 votes

I've seen teams win with 10 kills to the enemy's 30 (and larger score disparities, but I remember why that particular game was won), but they're rare enough that I could honestly understand why someone would want out. They're rare even in metas where the game isn't early-game focused. I may be willing to keep going, but if 3 of my teammates aren't, I'm not going to hold them hostage in a game they aren't enjoying. It has less to do with the reality that a comeback is possible and more to do with morale. If team morale is low then a comeback isn't likely, whether it's possible or not. If the will of our team was broken, it's hard to convince them to keep trying.

However, if it's just one jagoff who's going 2/6 and proclaiming the game is over because he can't easily get kills or farm then I'll drown him out while the rest of us work for it and hope he at least tries to join in for assist gold and map control.

TheHappyReaperz6 votes

If they haven't taken your turrets it doesn't matter how behind you are. The only reason you should ever surrender if you still have inner/inhib turrets is if you have an AFK.

Flitchee3 votes

Even if you are missing one of them you can still come back. It just requires a different mindset. If the enemy take bot inhib, and lazes around your base until you spawn, and baron is up? run right there and take it before the super minions become a factor. If you are unable to do that, then the game will probably be over. It just requites thought, like everything else in this game, if most people would slow down and think about what they are doing an look at the map before making a play, the game would go more smoothly.

CrypticShantie6 votes

Just because a game goes 17 - 31 doesn't make a game over. I'd rather sit and play out a game (even with toxic cry babies) in hopes to take advantage of the enemies misplays and mistakes or farm up and come back then go "nope gg nope" and never learn proper ways to come back. Part of the game is trying your hardest, and giving up over a couple lost team fights seems absolutely ridiculous.

There is no such thing as learning to come back when you're behind that much in this game. They will either continue to stomp you and finish before 25 minutes or misplay and drag the game til 50 minutes where you may have a chance with full items. It's totally up to them.

Edit: However, if you play in lower elo you may be right because people make stupid mistakes all the time. Not so much in higher.

Rockm Sockm5 votes

You know when the gold lead is insurmountable.

You know when your early game team somehow fed late game champs.

Most importantly, I know when my teammates have zero idea how to play from behind.

LXII5 votes

In this game it becomes VERY obvious when the enemy team is better than you/your team. Not every game is winnable until you're at the highest level of play and both teams are comprised of the best of the best.

I could try valiantly to hard carry when we're down 10 to 30, but I just don't want to. More often than not it won't work, and I will have wasted time and effort only to lose the same amount of LP I would have lost 20 minutes earlier.

It's cool that you're down to stick it out til the very end no matter what, but I (and many others) are not, it literally isn't worth the time when we could just start another game and win it in that same amount.

lilpokfluf4 votes

If it's a bronze/silver game play it out. I'd say gold maybe but anything higher you'll probably lose since chances are they don't suck and are better at closing a lead. The only issue with this is that it's the low elo players that think a game is lost at FIrst blood when they have the highest chance of a come back.

Stillname3 votes

Sometimes when I am spectating my friends ranked games I will see both teams have a player that tries to /ff within 1 minute of each other.

It is usually when the map is split between people who are feeding like on one team the top laner is really fed and the other team has a mid-jungle that are fed and both teams just keep trying to /ff even though the gold is really close.

The sad part is that at the end of it you know one of the two is going "noob team wouldn't ff when the game was hopeless"

Because surrender votes wouldn't exist if Riot didn't want us to be able to issue them.

Far too many people are far to quick to surrender. A lot of these same people play very aggressive and are 0-3 or 0-4 in the first 6-8 minutes and then they rage feed and try to FF as soon as possible while typing ff20 at 12 minutes.

CrypticShantie2 votes

That's exactly my point. People don't step back and try to explore their options, they just assume because the enemy are ahead that it's a loss and that they need to FF until they get into a game where they are absolutely dominating.

Troll for Trump1 votes

BEcause it works. This is an early-game driven meta, lategame is nonexistant. If you don't win early, you'll probably lose the game. Teams with FB turret win 73% of the time.

Leetri1 votes

That's because the team that gets first tower usually have better coordination and team synergy, they'd still win even if towers were so tanky the first one goes down at 30 minutes.

Troll for Trump1 votes

That's the problem. No, they might not win if the towers lasted longer.

It's a team game, so, even if you're good, you will still lose purely because of bad teammates. By stalling the game out, you have a chance to react.

If the tower falls at 5-8 minutes, you won't even have a chance to do anything to impact the game, ruining carry potential.

Maddmazz1 votes

Someone posted the stats on this showing pre FB tower gold and post and pre was 70% win and post is 73% so not much of a change. It's mostly perception.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Ok? How does changing from 70-73% have anything to do with this.

Don't quote irrelevant statistics....

If you get first blood tower, you have a 70-73% chance of winning already. Snowball is too great

warmcorntortilla2 votes

Because unless it's ranked, if it looks like a loss (more than 50% kills and objectives on the enemy team, we've lost a major teamfight, every lane lost or broke even) and that surrender vote comes up hell yeah I'm taking it. Especially if our team is not going to scale well into the lategame.

This isn't a Rocky montage. We can just all move on and play another, better match.

KiritoErenMikasa2 votes

umm because now in league you cant get to late game because its either one team stomping the other or the other way around, which means you're too far behind and cant even farm anymore since they are pushing up too much and have gold experience over you and your towers are gone, but in this meta towers mean little since tanks are immune to them and while the tanks are immune they are jumping on you under tower then other 4 just kill you. so no, its not whether you gave up it means you cant come back from a snowball. And quite frankly there has been a consistent trend of early game stomps that decided 15 minutes in game.

I dont think you honestly understand how the game works, if you lose lane then youre only options are try to farm up to catch up or die continuously, then you have to rely on your team to support you and the rest of the game... well if they are losing and dying too then the only outcome is to catch them in a pinch in a team or single them out, but odds are they are going to win almost all the majority of the time because you and your team are so far behind in gold and experience because you kept dying then before you know it all your towers are gone and you cant do anything about it, about this time its probably 20 minutes in.

Danjeng2 votes

I enjoy playing a game, whether if I'm winning or losing. Though I prefer most a close game about 45 minutes in length. Playing a competitive game keeps my mind and reflexes active. Also distracts me from the more grim reality of life.

What I do not enjoy is a team mate who /ff every moment available. I usually imagine a pouting child behind the screen, spamming surrendering, and it irritates my enjoyement, and probably other people's experience as well.

To the people who constantly /ff You can do three things:

  1. Accept that your team won't surrender, and then try your best
  2. Spend the remainder of the game sulking, not having any fun at all
  3. AFK like a little bitch Your choice. How do you want to spend the rest of your time in game?
invisiblecat11 votes

The enemy team was 20 kills ahead, 4 dragons ahead, 1 baron, and 5 towers ahead The 4 man premade in my game locked me into the game for an extra 10-15 minutes just because they like to see me suffer None of them got penalized But I also think being locked in game should be ban able Just for having an opinion to ff since you don't think they are going to win is not a reportable offense

I just lost my first LPs in solo queue this season today because of a super negative player who was lamenting that they would never get diamond. This game was super winnable despite us being a little behind but this player was just playing as if our team was 50/0 so we gave up unecessary kills which sealed our fate, then proceeded to shift blame to the other players all while thinking they'll never climb because "gg my team sucks".

/rant

By losing my "first LPs" I mean every other game I've lost this season (in solo Q) was either 2 placement games or when I was at 0lp. I only recently started playing league again.

People should be forced to play AP Bard Mid, so they can learn how to have fun in a game.

sobi9991 votes

Personally i think this is how surrender should work like. They allow you to surrender only after 20mins after game starts. Once a vote of 3/2 is reached and the surrender vote is nullified then no surrender can take place until after 40mins into the game. So basically surrender option is only available every 20mins into the game and once nullified you will have to wait atleast 20mins before you can ask for surrender again. Much less hassel and forces team to atleast play long enough to turn the tables around.

Sraeg20131 votes

You should consider yourself lucky.

On my server people refuse to surrender 5-40 games against late game wombo-combo teamcomps while having no inhibitors, playing against 4 Infernal Dragons, Elder Dragon and Baron, while 1 person on my team is intentionally feeding or AFK.

So instead of surrendering at 20, I have to literally waste my time, usually another 20 minutes, before the enemy team gets bored and ends the game.

In the past year, I had only a handful of successful surrender votes and it's a bad thing.

Knowing when the game is lost also requires game knowledge.

No, I'm not willing to gamble that at the 50th minute of the game one of the enemies will go AFK.

I don't normally surrender unless my teammates are so toxic I don't want to be around them anymore. The most frustrating thing about those kinds of people who just FF immediately, is they didn't even bother trying to win in the first place. They have no clue how to play around a team comps strength or how to play from behind. I get that it can be disheartening to see so many kills go to the enemy team very early on, but it doesn't necessarily mean the game is over. There are ways to play from behind and stall long enough to get some gold for your carries. Specially at low elo, you should almost never Surrender in low elo, a game can turn several times once it hits around 30-40 minutes.

Just some advice, before surrendering look at your team comp, assess its strength (in other words what does your team comp excel at?), try to use that strength properly. If it doesn't work after several attempts, go ahead and surrender because at that point you have tried. If it does work, congratz you are winning a game you were going to surrender.

Cerash1 votes

If you want to surrender, don't log in the game at all. If you think it's waste of time, it's a game, pretty much unless you're aiming for the pro plays, it will be a waste of time (you don't gain anything from it except maybe the positive feelings, if you can only get those from winning and steamrolling, this might be the wrong game, try single player ones). Sure I'm silver 2 right now, was gold 3 last season so I am the average player of League, take it however you want.

Anyway, /ff is for the ones who just want easy games in rankeds.
