From one Support main to...every other Support out there

I don't care who you are, how much damage you do, I don't care who the enemy jungle is.

You. Buy. A. Sightstone. The rest of your build, doesn't matter, nobody cares as long as it works out for you, but your team should not be getting picked off trying to ward a dark map because you can't even place a Control Ward, at the very least.

You don't buy a sightstone because you want to ward, everyone can do that. You get a sightstone so you can control vision by getting a sweeper. Everyone on team should buy a control ward and mid game everyone has access to a decent amount of wards to place on the map. Having a bright map is equally everyone's job since the support can only place 3 wards at a time.

Buy I can only have 4 wards at a time, that means I can only ward 4 places.... which means there's still most of the map where people just get picked off... what do I do with these monkeys that don't ward...

People still thinking that the support can place 20 wards and give vision to the whole map, despite the fact Riot changed the ward sistem... three seasons ago?

Is about time the other roles get their shit together when it comes to placing wards.

Hey, can't I have freedom? I mean, if my jungle doesn't TAKE smite, must I BUY an item to help him win the game?

Kyunsei3/8/2017, 11:12:56 AM6 votes

Remove sightstone from the game, up trinkets.

cinomenapplebae3/8/2017, 2:20:47 AM5 votes

I just don't buy it anymore until later for baron and dragon contests honestly, In low elo alot of people don't even capitalize on the wards.

A sightstone is a must. I just don't get the fact that supports are already low in gold so why is it a compulsory item for them? If anyone the jungler is the best person to buy sightstone or mid since they have more control over the map and more money than a support as well. I do always buy my sightstone but 1 person can only place 4 wards at a time so someone in the team also has to buy a sightstone (jungler being the best option).

Ehhhh. I think it's more situational than that.

If you're a support that initiates, roams, or can at least survive while wandering, yeah, a SS is a good purchase. But if you're a squishy, hug-your-team support where roaming is an all-expenses-paid express ticket back to the fountain, then a sightstone doesn't make as much sense as some of the other gold income item upgrades.

Take Morgana, for example. Getting the sightstone upgrade for FQC makes a lot of sense, because while you do lose the slow, you can actually survive going to ward objectives and the like even if you happen to run into the enemy jungler or a roaming assassin. If you're on Soraka, on the other hand, then getting within warding distance of a bush by yourself can be lethal - and the utility offered by the group speed boost can be very powerful to help engage or disengage, not to mention the vastly improved itemization.

Also as a message to fellow jungle mains:

If you don't need the extra damage from red smite because you have a shit ton of burst already or just don't need the damage in the first place and you don't need the blue smite speed up and slow, GET A FUCKING TRACKER'S KNIFE!!!!

That will really help your team out.

I've been having more luck buying control wards and spending the rest of my gold on defense and offense. I can ward to high hell, but in gold I can watch enemy mid walk through three wards and kill top or jungle because they never looked at the map. SoloQ is so uncoordinated and circusy, its a gamble when anyone will even take advantage of your support play.

In coordinated 5s? yeah. SoloQ? Debatable depending on your team. If they are stupid, sell it, buy offense and try to carry yourself out.

Sometimes I try to optimize my backs building first the 500 gold upgrade for the gold item, and I can understand doing that, but then priority to sightstone.

P.s.: I buy sightstone also on tanky junglers sometimes...

Kaioko3/8/2017, 3:29:24 PM3 votes

You get a sightstone not so you can ward -- you've got the yellow trinket for that. You get a sightstone because you can then get a sweeper and deny enemy vision which is hugely important.

This is where supports fail. Sightstone is only necessary in Silver and above. It is a waste of gold in low level bronze. I main support and i'm a low elo player. I did the support "req items" and I never got out of BV. You can't waste 800 gold when more then likely 3 out of 5 of ur teammates are bad. Once I started going against meta I started climbing. I should be in Silver shortly with my other account. I started B IV placement.

Sighs tone sucks on tank supports

meowwow73/8/2017, 10:15:21 AM2 votes

and if you are getting a plain ss then maybe up it to a rss for the item cdr :P

Reasons I buy sightstone and think it's a fantastic idea:

1: I want my ADC to push and get kills. 2: Before level 9 I have 5 wards on rotation, which is great if my adc has a big juicy bounty, or if my jungler didn't get scuttle on drag 3: I can get a sweeper. Sweeper means we can take objectives without being jumped on, walk around our own jungle, and create ambushes. 4: I'm worth less gold than my 10/2 Lucian, who I don't want facechecking bushes. 5: If my ADC takes farsight and my jungler takes a combat smite and a sweeper, we're down four wards.

Sometimes I'll rush FOTM first, if we're towerdiving or getting dived. Or if we're seiging or being seiged. Aside from specific situations like this, not having sightstone can be crippling, if not for your team, at least for the adc you're supporting.

tbh, a lot of the top laners will have a much easier placing deep wards, compared to supports.

Emerald Unicorn3/9/2017, 2:00:30 AM2 votes

As a support main, and a jungler secondary, I ward a lot. But I have noticed how rarely other lanes ward. As a jungler I feel like I end up warding for top and mid every time I pass by. Fortunately, most games that I jungle in, the support seems to do a decent job of warding their area. But I am always a little in shock when I go into the post game advanced stats and see people that only placed 2-4 wards in a whole 40 minute game. If your trinket is up, then use it. Anywhere is better than nowhere. After pushing up to an inhib turret throw a ward down somewhere. If it shows that any enemy is up there it lets others know they can, relatively, safely push a different lane without getting ganked by the whole team.

SlashStriker3/9/2017, 10:41:21 AM2 votes

everybody with a brain will see that

item 2049 Sigthstone cost 800 gold and gives you 4 wards item 3340 trinkets cost nothing and REGENERATE up to 2 wards

free wards or wards for a price

Not to mention that it got shitty stats

item 1028 - 400 gold That means that 4 wards cost 400 gold item 3340 - 0 gold and it regenerates wards
