Grievous Wounds

So the issue I have with the current state of grievous wounds is the longevity of the debuff. I believe the effect should be more windowed - giving you a chance to burst that pesky self-healer, or ADC supported by a Soraka, but not shutting them down permanently.

AD champions apply it for doing any physical damage. AP champions apply it for doing magic damage to a target below 35%. Tanks apply it by being auto-attacked with the new Thornmail

These all make sense within their classes, and aren't inherently terrible.

They're just all very... passive.

For an effect which goes a long way to shutting down certain champions, the ambience of the effect means that they are very unlikely to ever get to use their healing effects properly.

Ignite, in my opinion, is a much healthier implementation of grievous wounds. It is a gated, limited duration effect that cannot be applied endlessly to a champion to completely ruin their play patterns.

Let's say, for example, we change Executioner's Calling, Morellonomicon and Mortal Reminder to the following effect: Unique Active - Grievous: For the next X seconds, all damage you deal reduces the healing received by the target for X seconds (reduced for AoE/DoT effects).

This also gives us the ability to increase the healing reduction of grievous wounds to a higher value to reinforce this play pattern.

Let me caveat this by saying thornmail's functionality is fine. As a drain tank like Aatrox, you try to avoid hitting the tank with Thornmail, sustain-oriented casters like Swain can avoid auto-attacking their target to avoid the grievous wounds effect and ADCs - who would have the least agency to avoid the effect, can also try to hit someone else and even after the grievous wounds effect can heal through the thorns effect. Also, and this is important, lifesteal is not an inherent part of an ADC's kit. Thornmail's grievous wounds duration, however, should be short. Like, 1 second. The effect is on that particular item largely to counter ADC lifesteal, and the item has all kinds of other issues against champions like Dr. Mundo (such as not providing resilience to magic damage).

For the record, I question Grievous Wound's place on Morellonomicon anyway.

EDIT: It has since come to my attention that thornmail was reverted. Ignore that much, but leaving my thoughts on it here for completions sake.

i have a bigger issue with Morellos and its cost efficiency but Soraka Sona Trundle Tryndamere Warwick Taric Janna are simply too strong to reduce the effectiveness of grievous :p
