Dear Riot; Regular URF
I read in your notes on releasing it for the 10-year anniversary that you plan to have it be a one-time thing. That you think it's unhealthy for the game, because people will play it so much and get burned out on League for a while. I don't understand why this is different from ARURF or even Ranked. Burnout is a natural thing, and choosing to withhold a cherished game mode because of it seems... shallow. Dishonest. Let me explain;
For the past two-three years, the state of the game has been getting worse. This isn't an opinion, more and more complaint threads and even professional players and streamer personalities have been talking about it. People have been quitting. People have been exhausted of their enjoyment and leaving the game. This type of burnout is apparently not one worth talking about or fixing. Ranked queues don't get disabled for long periods of time, Summoner's Rift doesn't get disabled for long periods of time. This "it caused burnout" argument was the same one provided for the removal of Nexus Blitz, and it doesn't hold up.
If you really are so proud of ARURF that you'll (what feels like) lie to us in order to keep ARURF around, you can't pretend that it's True Random. You can't pretend that it doesn't cause burnout on its own. You can't hide behind lies hoping that we won't care. We do care. We care about the game modes that get taken away, the maps that get removed, we care about the alternative ways to play League that you've slowly been shutting down over the years. Even things like Custom Games are very underutilized - Did you know you can still look at custom game lobbies? Yeah, you can. Remember when the lobbies would count in the hundreds, maybe thousands, as people played Hide-and-seek, ran their own private tournaments, and offered random 1v1s? I look daily, and I count less than 20 custom games at any given time, including the ones behind a password. It's off-topic, but slightly relevant.
If you give us regular URF, really give it to us. Don't take it away spouting some "See we told you" using data we aren't allowed to see. Don't give us a taste of what we've always wanted and then give us the same-old rigged ARURF.
Let us go apeshit. Let us play ridiculous things. Let us choose, because that's always been what was great about URF. Being able to test and play anything. Let us enjoy URF, and don't take it away for good afterwards.
