Up-vote if you think Riot shouldn't allow matching bronze silver and gold together..

...unless its a promo (but no higher than 4 th division of upper tier)

The fact behind the title is: in ranked we play our matches that have almost nothing to do with our current rank, since its all a mixture of 5 upper and 5 lower divisions ...

conclusion : maximum of 10 tiers of a difference possibility from player to player in a single match is huge and it has nothing to do with the climbing of an individual ... therefore, climbing is rather a matter of luck than the skill in the League of Legends for last 3 seasons - If that doesnt change game cannot become much better than it is now, but the question is ,are we satisfied with the current state of this whole kind of a "random" matching system?

In other words, up-vote if you want to be matched by your rank instead of mmr !

Silver 5 here, ive just gotten back into rank. Played a game with a gold 5 against bronze 1. It happens.

Well their MMR is probably in the dumpster. I'm a low gold player with pretty good MMR and I literally NEVER see bronze players in soloq

TwinkiePro2 votes

Possibly, but it feels unfair either way to go against those who are tiers above you. I may gain 29lp a win, but getting a loss because my team is low silver against low-mid golds feels unfair. Just my personal feelings on it.

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

mybe it is in a dumpster, but they still have most of the matches in gold suroundings and then theyjust show up to ruin my promos or mybe even a few games in between ...which gives them some advantage ....or disadvantage to my bronzies and low silvers which apply to feed very easily when they suddenly face alot higher skill demand :)

Since my MMR is pretty high atm, I'm getting matched with ex-plats and high golds as a Silver V player. Not fun.

Ravenhale2 votes

Even when I was in Bronze 1, the highest opponent or ally I ever saw was a Silver 3. I don't think this is really an issue.

Ive been pushing to plat from gold at the end of this season, and I've had people from silver V to masters (probably boosted) but legit diamonds/ex diamonds in my games. It is definately a problem for me

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

after so much of comparing research and practical experience i cant see how this isn't a problem for everyone who play this game, even if they don't notice it .... games were so much better before season 6.. i could actually feel the skill demands going higher as i climbed higher on the ladder ..and my current situation feels like every game is a different rank even if im stuck

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

and you never felth the drag made by the difference of your teammates and enemy? something like 10 0 someone in 10 minutes, and after match you see it was like silver 3 vs bronze 3 . no?

Ravenhale1 votes

It could be the fact that I never have long win or loss streaks. Like the most I think I have ever won or lost in a row is 4 games, so my MMR value never spikes.

I mean, theoretically if you dodge every game you know you would lose and only play games that you know you should win, your ranking will be much lower than your MMR value due to all the LP penalties associated with dodging.

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

i even tried not to get too fed in those "easy games" so that my mmr mybe wont spike, but it eventually did, and very fast, like i played just as before, so there's no actual change because of it ...

i have already noticed that my mmr spiked more if i played alot more games ...like on dayoffs when i was able to spam game after game after game..so i quit doing so and now i don't fall too much after losing a promo(and thats the only change), while in last season i would sometimes get a series of very bad games even after extremely hard promo has passed ...and even been driven to fall in lower division helplessly, because of it

do you have any other idea how could i stop mmr from spiking even more? because if i play same lane and get good at it i start to get every other teammates just worser and worser, even if my points go up

i tried just every change of a playstile that came across my mind as logical one in order to stabilize the way matchmaking system treats me...

P.S. but even if there is an universal trick to stop mmr from spiking like crazy i still see it as a problem of matchmaking system instead as a problem of individuals ...in other words, nones games shouldn't be highly unbalanced (in any case) and that should be regulated by Riot(that would make League a "community game " again , now its just a look-alike )

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

i see it as a problem first because it applies very badly on me, second because my teammates tend to me closer to the lowest possible division of a lower tier while enemies tend to be closer to the highest possible division of a higher tier which gives a pretty high skill gap ,don't you think?

that extreme mostly happens during my promo...and in just every promo... man you should see the difference in picks...bronze 1 all of the sudden becomes bronze 5 on my side of the map...

Does a player have to be "god" to win such uneven match or Riot could just lower the difference of the matching possibilities in matchmaking system?

thats my not be your reality but mine definitely is :) ...and im not the only one

As a Silver 1 I get matched with Platinum 5s that's my range, never matches me with anyone lower than me either

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

no chance this will be seen by more than 100 people since boards are filling up with needless posts pretty fast ... what a distraction

Tworie1 votes

Even when you're plat, you still get matched up with people who are lvl30 and unranked

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

exactly, that way matches can easily be set-up in just every way they need to be,thats why its so genius to put such high range of ranks that can be matched together-with an excuse of faster queue ,but in reality they leave people in status quo , or without any sense of progress trough the overal time they play ...leaving people deeply unsatified and disoriented in such way makes more money, and they know it ...and people who don't notice it would fall for it or quit the game disapointed, thats my theory

From my experience, you almost never have more than +/- 2 Divisions in the same game. In the rare cases when it happens, it's usually one of the following:

  • A player displayed Rank and actual MMR are mismatched (it can happen for a variety of reasons), and so you get a, for instance, Silver 3 player matched in a Gold 4 game. But when you check that Silver profile, you see they have a 65+% winrate, and they are actually good enough to play in that Gold4 game, so it's not a problem.
  • Two players with a large gap are premades and throw wrenches into the system. Currently, a falling Silver5 with a Bronze2-equivalent-MMR can go in premade with a climbing Gold1 with a Plat4-equivalent-MMR, and they'll probably be matched with and against something like Silver1-2 players. This is totally not OK and should be changed, but Riot doesn't seem to think so. It doesn't happen that often, though, so while it IS a problem, it's not a very IMPACTFUL problem in the grand scheme of things.

Caveat, maybe it's different in the extreme divisions (Bronze4-5 and Diamond+) where there are less people to match. But that doesn't seem to be what you're talking about.

As for being matched by Rank instead of MMR: No! That's a terrible idea. The system tries to provide matches as balanced as possible by matching a player with and against people of the same skill level. Don't you think that's a good principle? Well, the best measure of "skill" available IS your MMR, NOT your Rank. Matchmaking is and should be based on MMR, not Rank. If your Rank and your MMR become mismatched (which shouldn't happen a lot in the first place), just keep playing and it will naturally realign itself within a few dozens of games.

50Shades0fTrynda1 votes

not always ,it happens in just every promo i play and occasionally while i'm climbing to it ... no biggie ? o-0

so that logic of yours says if someone is good it has to be punished by playing match of a division hes not in/ or that has nothing to do with his division?

when you'll play versus gold and high silver with teammates from bronze and low silver then you'll understand, probably :)

DeathBurst1 votes

so that logic of yours says if someone is good it has to be punished by playing match of a division hes not in/ or that has nothing to do with his division?

What? Did you actually read my post?

My logic is: "The system tries to provide matches as balanced as possible by matching a player with and against people of the same skill level. Don't you think that's a good principle?"

So no, someone good is not punished in any way by playing matches from other Divisions. Someone good is just playing BOTH AGAINST AND WITH people just as good as them. If you're Silver3 and climbing very fast and matched against people from Gold5, for instance, it means the system thinks you're actually worth Gold5, but you'll ALSO be matched WITH people from Gold5. And if you see a few Silver and Bronze in your games, they'll be worth Gold5 just the same. After all, YOU don't appear as a Gold player either, so why can't you believe that THEY are worth Gold just the same as you are?

And I'm not making stuff up, this is actually how the system works. I manually checked your last 12 SoloQ Ranked games.

You had, over 12 games, there was 3 players in Bronze2 (4 Divisions lower), and one in Bronze3, but when you check his profile it says his MMR is actually Bronze2. There was also one Unranked, but he was Bronze in previous Seasons and his profile says Bronze-2-MMR too. And finally, there was one unfortunate guy who was playing his first Placement Series ever, which was finally placed into Silver5, but he has a Bronze4-MMR, unlucky, but anyone needs to have a first Placement ever. Oh, and by the way, it was 2 with you, and 4 against you, so you can't exactly complain about that either, all those people lower than you were mostly in the enemy teams. On the other side, there was no one at all in Gold, max I could see was Silver 1, so 2 Divisions higher at most.

So, over more than a hundred players, there were 6 players more than 3 Divisions lower than you, and mostly against you. Also, it was mostly matches between 2 and 5 AM, when there are less players available online to match you with. I'd say the system works pretty well, but if you want it to work even better, play in the peak hours.

just look what others wrote , and what people are generally writing on boards for past 2 years about the matchmaking system... believe it or not, its real... if one isn't alowed to climb by the matchmaking system ,it will not... games become too much of a handicape for said player....that is also my experience

other indication that something isn't wrong is that bronze and silver promos for every division felt the same in difficulty, i just had to beat luck(matchmaking system) , my team and enemy team ---why my team, because they all of the sudden all come as total noobs compared to my enemy and its imposible to win , like 99% for lose... and dont even say 1% is a chance because you'll just make yourself look stupid...there is a chance, if i all of the sudden become a "pro" in a superficial meaning of the word , then ill probably win such "unwinable" match in silver and bronze promo... those are matches matched for ones to lose other to win, intentionally ...

everything what you wrote about mmr shows that it is susceptible to errors...very.. and practice presented it exactly as such

P.S. i play solo

DeathBurst1 votes

Believe it or not, I manually checked your recent games, and what you say doesn't match with the facts. See my reply to your first comment.

And yes, there is a part of luck in Series, but that's why Free Wins exist. If you fail your first Series, you have a Free Win for the next one, so you have 1 Free Win, 2 games to play, and you only need to win one game. If you have a 50% winrate, you'll win 1 over 2, and if you get unlucky, just play a couple more games and you'll get lucky in the next Series.

And people on those boards love to complain and are full of sh*t, but if you really want to use the boards as evidence, look at all those threads saying Elo Hell doesn't exist.

P.S. i play solo

Yeah, but others don't. If, let's say, a Silver1 and Bronze4 are premade together, their average MMR might be around Silver3 and they'll be matched in the same game as you. So you end up with someone much lower than you, but you also have someone higher than you, and the average level stay the same. That usually leads to terrible games, and I said it was a problem, but it's the main reason you end up with people very far from your Division and your skill level in games, and it doesn't happen that often. As you can see for yourself if you actually go through your history and actually count how many times it happens, instead of just bullsh*tting.
