Make Karthus's ult ignores spell-shields

I mean you gave Galio's ult resistance to Tenacity, plus the fact that Edge of Night is going to be added along with Banshee & Sivir, I don't see why this change isn't necessary.

Why not just have Karthus ult proc in waves, like a tether. Start, halfway, and the end. Then it doesn't ignore spellshields, dosent get completely invalidated by them, and nerfs it's interaction with Rylais all in one go.

Votable Jester3 votes

I wouldn't put one proc at the very start though. Perhaps at 1/3, 2/3, finish. Otherwise you'd be giving instant global damage.

Oh, this would also make Rylai's work really well on him, though I suppose they'll be nerfing that soon anyway.

I love this idea, yesturday i ultied a dying shaco that had no ult up and his maw completely negated the 900dmg i had void scepter and the mage boots aswell as magic pen runes. No one is gonna tell me a 400spell shield with no other mr item ate away a 900dmg ult with a ton of magic penetration. The maw shield negated the excess dmg which is total bs because that makes him immune to the ult if im the only mage on the team.

Ive had this also happen against a Veigar ult. Bye bye 1500 damage

after that moment you are left thinking if you ult just disappeared.

thats sorta the reason for maw

How about he channels, then there's a 1, 2, 3, damage on it? So it'd be like...

Karthus Cease to beeeee! ... Boom, boom, BOOM!

I had this exact thought earlier. Have it scale in uses by 1 per rank. Rank 1 1 hits, 2 2 hits, and 3 has 3 hits.

Laughing Fish1 votes

Follow the Mordekaiser style of the 3rd hit being far stronger. So you can choose to block the first one if you wish, but if you are someone like say sivir, you can just accept the first 2 and block the 3rd if you are patient.

Because that would be awesome and something besides a hackjob skin with a misleading name ignoring the Shadow Isles characters who don't got dem tiddies.

wont that give it a free thunderlord proc to someone?

I wrote this in another thread:

If we have to suffer the EoN...

Here is an idea that I have been rolling around about Karth...

What if...

Karth's ult wasnt a channel into a big nasty burst, but instead was divided into 3 verses. During his 3 second channel he applies stacks of "Verse of Requiem" to a target, about 1 per second. At the end of the channel you take damage based on how many verses (stacks) you have. Activating a spell shield, or having a banshees means you will still potentially have 2 stacks giving Karthus some damage for his ult. This would work because theoreticly the application of one of the stacks would pop the shield.

Down side is it will reduce the overall counter play to his ult as the only way to dodge the damage without stasis would be to be Sivir, with a banshees vail, EoN, and a Morgana Black shield on hand... or be swallowed by Tahm, or hit with Bards Tempered Fate (which is still stasis).

Upside is Karth can still do some damage against spell shielded enemies, and it would add a little bit of the idea of "singing" to the "Deathsinger" champ.

Any thoughts?

Night's edge won't be able to be used to block Karthus unless it wouldn't have done anything in the first place.

Stop whining and read what the item actually does.

It gets canceled by any hostile effect or action related to you, from attacking to being attacked. Effectively, you can only start it out-of-combat, where you wouldn't be using your ult on someone anyway.

It is not an on-demand spell-shield. Its an engage tool for assassins.

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

The complain is about karthus not being able to finish a fleeing enemy at the safety of the space behind his turret by simply pressing R.

WoonStruck8 votes

If they have Edge of Night and didn't use it as someone was moving into engage on them, or before engaging on someone, there's still something wrong, though.

If they saved it for Karthus, that's entirely fair.

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

Totally agree with you in this topic, just wanted to clear up the case here. ^^

hhaavviikk6 votes

yeah because screw counterplay

DrCyanide11 votes

His Ult has more counterplay than most Ults in the game at this point, let's cut him some slack.

LXII5 votes

By a select few champions. That isn't "counterplay".

Chembaron Yamada8 votes

Exactly. What people are mentioning here is not counterplay. It is counterbuilding or just counterpicking.

Counterplay is something you do actively to prevent something else to happen. So yes, there is counterplay for Karthus' Ult. Don't get low. Ever. Don't dare to fight if you are not sure you will survive the fight with at least 50% health. It isn't healthy counterplay though.

Leetri1 votes

You can also CC him while he's channeling (provided he's still alive), but a good Karthus will never let that happen.

also redemption, item that lets you heal allies even when dead... plus assassins are gonna be every where,

hes going to be so bad to play this patch

also, reduce the damage and cooldown of his ulti.

Considering everyone has easy obtainable MR (and shields and other shit) now I'd rather buff Karthus ultimate.

it isn't necessary because you actually have to be purchasing the items (and this Edge of Night is still fairly specialized,) or you actually have to be playing sivir (I think Nocturne would also work, not sure. or fizz, or Vlad)

If I was the Karthus player, I wouldn't mind if I saw my opponent's building this. It just mean's I'm actually a threat, and I'm in fact forcing them to deviate from their desired build path. And besides, I still have the ability to bait the spell shield out, or the shield could be taken out by another spell entirely. (Yes it counter's the ult, but even the counterplay has counterplay)

Also, as someone who does play Karthus, I would find it incredibly short sided to say this item completely counters his ult. (as it seems like you measure his ult by it's ability to execute) His ult affects the entire enemy team. Buying this item for yourself will only counter 1/5 of his ult. But it would still be effective at damaging the rest of your team. (especially since the MR aura is going)

Assassin main here.

Yes this actually makes sense Tbh.

OMG no!!!!

I would rather is affect every minion on the map than that lol....

Make him a farming machine and make him true glass canon. Only getting dmg from scalings.

Make Karthus ult have 0 counterplay so it can be nerfed into oblivion. Seriously he needs a new ult.

Yeah, remove Karthus ult!

While we are at it, lets remove: Blitz Q Fizz E Ezreal Q Ashe R Malphite R Heimerdinger Q Nasus Q Zilean R Teemo R Annie R Lux R

Because why preserve any core/iconic abilities?

a global execute that you see coming a mile away and will prob only kill you in the late game unless he is ksing his teammate. Karthus needs some TLC, an update, he's just as old as sion. I do think ignoring spellshields is a little overboard but still, who is actually afraid of karthus.

Karthus ult is pure damage but not an execution if I am correct.

Hella Kaiser1 votes

it's magic dmg and it's not an execution...

what pure damage ulti isn't an execution?

INoble KnightI1 votes

Execution is when an ability does more damage based on how much health you have remaining.

Hella Kaiser1 votes

no pure dmggggg

Ultîma1 votes

0 counterplay from ignoring spellshields?

That still leaves heals, regular shields, invulnerability and untargetability. Considering the somewhat telegraphed cast time, it would be an interesting niche for Karthus' power to pierce through magical defenses.

Also Karthus' core identity as a character IS his ultimate. That'd be like removing mushrooms from Teemo...

Hella Kaiser2 votes

out of the 26 champs, 4 items (5 with the new one), and 2 summoners spells, it would remove only 1 item (+ the new one) and 2 champs from his counters. i think that 24 champs, 3 items, 2 summoners spells is enough counterplay.
