Current Midlane Meta

I know win rates aren't considered all that important to people (for some reason), but I still think they're worth thinking about, as they at least reflect general trends in the meta. As a midlaner, I've felt kind of shafted since patch 5.3 since all my favorite champions have been nerfed in various patches this season, and I've seen endless attention and investment go into making the jungle a healthier gaming environment. Everything is about diversity this season, which in theory is great. But what about midlane? Where's the diversity in this part of the Rift? First of all, tank meta is awful if you're an ADC or a midlaner, so you already have that stacked against you, since tanks are just stronger and more durable earlier this season (thanks, Cinderhulk) than most midlaners can actually handle until later in the game. But what strikes me as interesting is this list of rankings for mid lane based on win rates, that clearly shows a strong preference for assassins. Out of the top 15 mid lane champions (according to this), only four are actually mages in the conventional sense (Heimer, Gragas, Ryze, and Lux. I would consider Veigar an assassin since his kit is so bursty on a single target, but obviously you can argue he's a mage too.) Everyone else in the top, however, is an assassin. The majority of mages reside below this group of assassins. Some mages that should be much better still have abysmal win rates (looking at you, Azir and Kassadin), and yet we haven't seen any buffs for them in several patches.

I guess I'm wondering what the point of playing a mage in this meta is, since most of them can't handle tank meta, and most of them die very easily to the more prevalent and apparently more dangerous assassins. And why is Riot so anti-mid lane this season?? All this "diversity" and the majority of successful mid laners are highly mobile assassins who have abilities and moves that are frankly really unfair to the rest of the mid lane roster. All these assassins have too many free flashes and blinks in my opinion, that don't have much counterplay to them, especially if your champion lacks any kind of escape.

But, then again, this list also suggests Master Yi is a better mid laner than LeBlanc, which we all know isn't quite accurate. So I suppose this list should be taken with a grain of salt - but still! There is a considerably obvious bias towards assassins on this list that I think still highlights some of the general balance issues with mid lane currently. What do you guys think?

I think ban/pick rate is more important than win rate if you want to see the meta.

you should use the filter instead of looking at normals.

I doesn't matter whats in "meta" in bronze because i can effectively play poppy top and still poop on your team. Thing is you can play anyone mid.

ap kog / ziggs / ahri / talon / zed / yas / swain / heim / malz ? / lulu / cassio / azir / karth / velkoz / viktor / twisted fate / ryze / ori / morg / liss / vlad

Theres no end to who you can play mid right now and make it work... Best part about it, you don't need to complain about the win rates of normal games.

Small advice - since you´re talking about MID-Lane:

"Heimer, Gragas, Ryze, and Lux" Heimer and Ryze are played Top and Gragas is a Jungler (sometimes Top as well). Only Lux is really played Mid... wait does anyone play her atm? xD

Dude what are you smoking?

These 7 out of the top 10 are all about sustained damage and/or poke. Heimerdinger Malzahar Brand Swain Mordekaiser Gragas Velkoz

Ahri is arguably in this category as well.

Win rate's still important, but you need to consider pick/banrate context.

Like Heimer's winrate has always been high, and his pickrate's always low. If his winrate was indicative of strength within a meta, he would've seen popularity by now. Alternatively, if his strength has been due to the meta, we should have seen his winrate change with the change in the meta, but this also hasn't happened.
