Why do people think Galio is useless?

I honestly want opinions as to why people think Galio is worthless unless he's against a full mage or mostly mage comp.

Mana costs are the -only- reason. He spends too much mana, that even an Athene's can fix. But, if they weren't high, he'd spam his Q with massive base damage and fair AP ratio and his shield and never lose a lane again. He needs a rework because he's got no real way to perfectly balance.

That could last you a few more spells, sure. But, you'll run out of mana very quickly. You need to poke with Q and shield with W. Both very high cost, and don't pretend like you can ever get to ulting range unless you E. His mana costs are designed to be self oppressive so that he is not.

Also he has a horrendous melee AA.

Uh. I never used my E to run faster to ult enemies lol.

It's flash ult, or ult cc'd enemies, or let them come to me via death brush or hard engage.

Gotta agree with you on all you said.

I like Galio but i honestly think he does need a rework to make him more usefell in team comps. I'm just not fully seeing the supposed Guardian that his lore claims him to be.

Oh, i also find him enjoyable, the problem is building him, i like his current spells, the issue is his passive, he is designed to get the extra AP from MR (in form on low AP scaling), but as i rarely face 1 (or any) mage, building the MR is usually hard to pull off.

Very true. Lately the team comps have been primarily AD....you are lucky to get 1 or 2 AP champs on a team.

It's not his use that's the issue, however. His kit is very good for team fights. He has a great defensive boost shield, nice sustain in the middle of a fight, a high damage nuke with a slow, and a nice aoe MS increase as well as a game breaking ult.

His issue is all the mana cost in lane. And his melee AA. In fact, if Galio became ranged, I think he would be incredibly strong. Being melee forces him to use his high mana costs to trade and survive while CSing. But, without high mana costs, you have no chance of winning in lane with a 300 base damage Q and a shield that can shield large portions of health off DOTs/minions.

Galio is still powerful vs AD people just don't take stormraiders and deem him "useless"

I kind of like him. He has a rather weak early game and laning phase in general against most champions, mainly due to his mana cost, but holy shit his ult mid game allows you to make some REALLY epic plays (especially if their team is lacking in crowd control)

Because they don't take stormrider's surge. Ofc people who take thunderlords on a champ who doesn't use it would fail at it.

high mana costs
he is not really well defined, falls in the middle of categories.
low ap scaling
hes passive is made to fight mages, in this AD dominated meta thats not needed, in contrast, his counterpart is considered strong as he fights AD
his ult is easily countered by or
his Q is fairly easy to dodge, and mostly his only source of reliable damage as his AA is melee and low.
