Creating Roles Sub-Classes

First of all this is something i would like to work on as a whole, not only me, if you have comments, suggestion do not hesitate to write it down.

What do i mean by "Sub-Classes"?I mean creating a more narrow group of champion that specialize in somethin. Just to remind you, roles are: Tank, Assassin, Support, Mage, Marksmen and Fighter Well to keep it short: Juggernauts are an example of a sub-class, they can be considered Fighters , but they can be labeled as juggernatus because they dont have too much movement possibilities are tanky and deal lots of damage in melee range. What if we could create more of these grops for each roles? Let's try it, and i will need your help :) (especially for the sub classes names!) I also want to point out that one champion can fit into more sublasses at the same time

TANK:I think we can generally divide Tanks in 2 subclasses: Protector and Engager. Protector: Meat walls that specialize in absorbing the biggest part of enemy damage, and keeping alive his carries Examples: Shen, Maokai, Dr. Mundo

Engager: Meat walls that specialize on starting a fight and cousing a mess in the middle of the enemy team. Examples: Zac, Sion, Volibear

Assassin : Assassin are hard to divide into sub categories, but i think we can divide also this one in 2 groups

Duelist: Physical assassins that can burst you down managing their cd and autoattacks, usually low amount of cc in their kit Example: Zed, Yasuo, Riven

Prodigy: Assassins that burst you downwith their spells, usually they have some form of cc Example: Ahri, Leblanc, Ekko

Marksmen : i think we can divide this one into 4 subclasses (still help me giving names)

Sieger: Marksmen capable of of demolishing building fast with their kit Example: Caitlyn, Jinx, Tristana

Skirmisher: Markmen that are super good on 1v1 -2v2-3v3 situations: Example: Vayne, Graves, Lucian

Team fighter: Marksmen that can do their best when on 5v5 teamfights Ex: Miss Fortune, Ashe, Kalista

Poker: Marskem that can wear you down from long range with multiple strikes Ex: Ezreal, Corki, Jayce

**FIghters: **I think we can classify Fighters in 3 categories

Juggernaut: We already know these ones. High melee dmg, high tankiness, low mobility and almost no CC Ex: Darius, Garen, Illaoi

Destroyer: Warriors with good tankiness, very high damage, able to get easly to the backlines to eliminate the low health members: Example: Pantheon, Irelia, Vi

Undying: Fighters that are very good on solo missions thanks to their innate sustain and ability to survive the impossible Example: Nasus, Aatrox, Trundle

Supports: Supports can generally be divided in 3 categories

Enchanter: Supports that specialize in buffing or healing their allies. Example: Janna, Soraka, Nami, Lulu

Guardian: Supports that specialize in saving specific team members, almsot like a body guard Example: Braum, Tahm Kench, Shen

Engager: Supports that allows other team mates to capitalize on their plays Ex: Alistar, Blitzcrank, Thresh

Mages: Mages could be divided 3 categories

Strategist: Mages that excel at controlling large zones of the map Example: Azir, Anivia, Heimerdinger

Warlock: Mages that axcel at high burst of damage both AoE or single target Example: Veigar, Brand, Syndra

Arcanist: Mages that specialize at controlling the enemy or blocking their movements with hard cc. Example: Morgana, Zyra, Ryze

So this is all for now, let me know what you think about it :D

I like your list for tanks is spot-on both in names and the categories given. Engaging and protecting are the two big categories of where tanks can be good at, and really differentiate themselves from others.

Your categories for supports, apart from Enchanter, have a lot of overlap with the tank categories, with Guardian is essentially a 1:1 replica of the Protector category for tanks and Engager being a category in both. All the supports that do these are tank supports, and I think these categories should have identical names in both categories.

You assassin categories basically falls into the distinction of AD assassins (for duelist) and AP assassins (for prodigy). The names for these categories could probably better reflect these categories. Duelist is good for the former, but prodigy isn't really as fitting for the latter. I think "spellweaver" might be a better name over "prodigy", although I'm not sure if spellweaver is perfect for it either.

Fighters already have distinct category names made by Riot. Juggernaut obviously is obviously for those immobile melees who can tank tons of damage and deal tons of damage, while diver was given for champions like Vi, Irelia, and Xin Zhao that fit your destroyer tag. Undying basically amounts to fitting champions that already fit into the other categories of bruisers, such as Nasus and Trundle being Juggernauts and Aatrox being a diver.

Your marksman subcategories basically came out as a convoluted mess because there are more categories than are actually needed. I would just split them up into two groups: those that utilize large auto attack steroids with their auto attacks for their damage (eg. Kog'Maw, Jinx, Ashe) and those that utilize a combination of their abilities with their auto attacks for their damage (eg. Corki, Lucian, Miss Fortune).

Mage categories feels like there is are missing subcategories for mages that deal high amounts of damage over time without high amounts of burst (eg. Cassiopeia, Malzahar, Swain), while the arcanist category feels like it overlaps too much with the strategist category. It makes a lot of sense to use the arcanist category to cover DoT users and have the strategist category cover all the champions that control in some form, whether it is controlling areas of the map or controlling enemy champion's movement.

I.E. the difference between a skill juggler (Ezreal, Lucian, Draven) and a timing-focused Marksman (Miss Fortune, Jinx, Tristana). One is more active, as they are most effective while continuing to juggle their skills, while the other tends use their abilities specifically when they are more effective.

Loose Cannons and Peacemakers, I'd call 'em.

Also I think I'd call the engager tanks "Initiators" but that's just me personally.

I agree that they kinda went overboard with the extra sub-categories for some classes, especially since most champions have two tags for their archetypes. Fighter/Assassin tends to be a Destroyer/Duelist combo, which works because the two archetypes don't have an overlap for the descriptions of how they work, but the Support/Tank overlap and all Marksman/[secondary] overlaps make it a bit more messy.

I like your marksman names better.

The support/tank overlap makes a lot of sense because all of the supports that fit the guardian category and the ones that fit the tank's protector category, and the supports that fit the engager category fit the tank's engager category.

Thanks for the nice reply! i will try to incorporate your suggestion in my first post when i can, but i think the Marskmen category i well divided for the type of adcs we have in the game,

The Support "Engager" should be renamed to "Enabler". Literal definition of Enabler: A person or a thing that makes something possible. The Tank "Engager" should be renamed to "Initiator". We all know what that is. :p

Let me know what you think about the names. I think that the ones for the ADCs sucks, maybe you can come up with something cool. :D

No one with suggestion on this topic? ;(

Hmm tbh i think you should add more roles for ad champions that can do many things aka all-rounders, such as shaco where as he cant heal shield etc, but he can provide cc with his boxes, vision, split push, do quite amounts of damage if played ap, etc. Hope you are kind of geting my point. Just dont know what subclass i would really put him in on your list since he can do many things.

Side note: I think your subclasses are a little too specific and maybe generalize it a little more, so grouping things would be easier for some cases

None of the Duelists you list are autoattack reliant.

well, they use autottack tho to impelment their damage. Yasuo and riven both do this, to some extedn zed too

Zed is more of an AD caster. Riven can auto attack, but her cooldowns usually get so low that she just starts spamming her spells.

Yasuo never seems to stop spamming his Q when he gets the chance.

I still think they are duelists (not Zed, he doesn't want to duel people) but they seem like exceptions rather than the rule. Champions that better define a duelist are Fiora MasterYi Jax Trundle Irelia Olaf etc. Their abilities usually enhance their AA in same way or they have steroids to help them quickly in a fight (Ryze could also be a duelist I guess then). They're usually very AA reliant though, which means some marksmen could fall into it (but lets not go into that).

I also disagree on where you use the term skirmisher. I've always seen champions like Pantheon Vi and other fighter/assassins as skirmishers due to how the fight becomes more dangerous the longer it goes. What makes them different from assassins is that they have more general survivability and broader build paths (you can make Pantheon somewhat tanky if he's doing bad. But you can't say the same for Zed or Talon. I could be wrong). For your marksmen, I'd call them gunslingers or something.

I'd also call your pokers, sharpshooters. But I just think it sounds cooler.

Support Engager needs a different name and Riven should be listed as a Prodigy really.
