Mage recommendations for mid lane.

Title. The only champ I play mid is Yasuo, and I would like to expand my pool so I can have more options for that lane in ranked games. Serious opinions please.

Karma is one you NEED to learn, despite being honestly p not good, shes versatile and the best blind-pick mid laner.

Pick Ahri. She's good in pretty much every lane bar against Yas and unlike the Karma who was mentioned, Ahri is actually GOOD while being versatile rather than being versatile and not much else. I imagine Ahri would fit your playstyle too.

Fit my playstyle, you say? Interesting.

I don't care how complex the champ is, I can just sit down and play X games with him and learn him. Effectiveness is what I need.

Annie is pretty efficient with her instant cast ult bear with stun depending on your passiveAnnie

I've always been a Morgana one trick pony and usually I play her mid. Morg is good because when you have 3 ranks in W it's enough to kill the ranged creeps of a wave, and maybe the melee depending what items you've bought. That means she's very good at controlling a minion wave because you can instantly push whenever you want and force the other guy under tower. She's a very safe pick but at the same time very good at putting pressure on people.

Also, people tend to underestimate her damage especially her LV6 all in. If you can farm really well and get large rod on first back you will have a ton of kill potential in lane. With black shield it's easy to get away from ganks and her Q makes people tilt. She's also very strong in teamfights because of her ult and therefore good at roaming and counter-ganking.

A lot of people say she doesnt have late game damage but a lot of the time I do the highest damage on my team. Her Q is 90% AP ratio so if you can hit a lot of them you'll be doing a lot of damage.

Ahri Strong all-rounder. Her mobility makes her one of the safest mid laners; not to mention her respectable waveclear/sustain.

Lux Brand Velkoz Immobile powerhouses. Lux has the best raw burst, range and defensive utility, Brand and Vel'Koz have more reliable combos and are better at shredding tankier enemies.

Annie Very simple. Targeted, near-instant spells = great matchups, especially vs mobility. Farming is a breeze with Q cooldown/mana refund.

Morgana Amazing utility. Has virtually no bad lane matchups due to HARD pushing with W, and the safety of Black Shield vs any crowd control. Really good scaling too.

TwistedFate Huge map pressure, very good waveclear, and targeted CC. Impressive burst mid-late game.

^ All these champions are easy to pick up and have fairly simple mechanics/combos. They can also fit into almost any team comp, and most of them can double up as a support in a pinch, if necessary.

Xerath, Viktor, Syndra, Nidalee (it's fun and it works, trust me) are all good picks (at least I play them)

Lux, Ahri and Vel Koz are the best atm (stat wise at least). Maybe TF, Anivia, Malzahar and Morg as well.

Vel'koz is probably the best mid lane mage in Solo Q if you're willing to put in the time. Strong laner, scales well, has very high carry potential.

burst: Annie Leblanc Diana Lux Ahri ( i wuld put Fizz here but he is a very hated champion and many people will have no respect for you if you play him)

farmers to either wave clear or lay down massive team fight damage (once farmed): Malzahar Viktor Gangplank Ziggs Anivia ( i don't think GP is technically a mage but he can function like one with ranged harass and big wave clear...such a strong kit if you put in some time to learn him...also oranges are amazing against many mids' deadly CC and even help you out sustain many mages health-wise. ahri for example...)

utility/supportive mids: Zilean Lulu Morgana TwistedFate

there are others but these are the ones i am more familiar with

if you want something fun and good when you get use to them Azir ( he is most likey the hardist champ in the game but when you start to pull off plays my god SO FUN

Zyra

She's a bit complicated and extremely squishy, but her AoE damage is the strongest in the game and she usually deals the most damage in the game too. She counters Yasuo among others and is very fun to play.

I am having serious thoughts about trying out Ahri Brand Velkoz so far. My preferable playstyle is "farm first, deal damage later" (which is one of the reasons I play Yasuo with a passion). Thank you for your recommendations guys!

Brahmsauce1 votes

Anivia Veigar Viktor Kassadin Would fit that "playstyle" well. All these scale great into late and require farming. Vik and Anivia get good wave clear fairly quickly, and are fairly safe blind picks if you don't know who you're laning against. Kass / Vei can be counter picked hard. For example Talon/Zed/Leblanc/Fizz into Veigar.

Ahri I feel requires you to roam a lot and make picks happen but also is a very safe laner.

Drakylon1 votes

If you really want "farm first, deal damage later", then give Veigar a try. He's the embodiment of that playstyle, what with his Q passive and high AP scaling. Just beware that his E takes quite a bit of practice to land consistently.
