Assassins are NOT High Risk, High Reward
Let me preface this by saying I am a strong advocate for increasing risk and reward for Assassins. I just wanted to point out a huge misconception that seems to be filling the boards lately.
At least as of recently, Riot does not consider the Assassin class as the "High Risk High Reward" class of the game. We know that they look down on Feast and Famine play styles, the extreme version of High Risk High Reward. If we look at their Assassin update post, I can find all of these quotes:
They have been tough to balance because of how frustrating they can be to play against especially when they get ahead. Playing against an Assassin can often feel very inevitable and hopeless, especially once they start their snowball. Giving opponents options and opportunities to outsmart or outmaneuver the Assassin is critical to the sustainability of the class in the long-term. On the flip side, this also allows us to give Assassins a bit more punch when they do succeed meaning that they’ll be able to dig themselves out of even more precarious situations than before when executed to their full potential.
But virtually nothing dedicated to increasing the amount of risk they have to promote more power. At best they wanted to give them different play styles which may deserve more power in specific situations, but to call that increasing their reward via a necessary risk is still a stretch.
Which leads me to a few conclusions:
- All of you who keep telling others that Assassins are a High Risk and High Reward class? Stop that. You're throwing around a lot of misinformation about Assassins that's only going to frustrate everyone down the road when someone accuses Riot of not making Assassins High Risk High Reward, and Riot retorts that they never necessarily advocated that.
- If you honestly think Riot should design Assassins to be High Risk High Reward? Go actually tell Riot members. Make threads directed towards Riot members with convincing and legitimate arguments and hopefully a slew of uproots to get their attention. Go to their Assassin Update thread and try to get a conversation going there. Pay close attention to the news in the future and catch a Rioter while their answering questions to get your voice heard. It's stupid watching people get into petty arguments in threads to each other over whether Assassins are High Risk High Reward in that one person is factually wrong and the argument won't even do anything. At least if you address the right people, that opinion may actually make a difference.
