What I don't understand about MMR.

From what I've read and observed about it; it goes like this..

Low/normal mmr = lose more LP than you win

above average/high mmr = win more LP than you lose

How does that make sense with dynamic Q? If you can win your games playing by yourself and maintain above a 50% win rate, you shouldn't be losing more LP than you win with a normal MMR.

MMR isn't just based on your win/loss ratio - it's also based on the team MMRwithin those games. It's not perfect but it tries to see whether you're constantly beating out opponents who are stronger than you and measuring against the ones you are losing that are weaker.

Your MMR is normal therefore it will be about the same amount per win/loss. Keep in mind that if your team MMR is higher than you do get less/punished more for technically being better than the other team. This works in reverse as well.

MMR gains and loses are a combination of:

  • Your MMR compared to the game's average (or just others in the game)
  • The difference between your MMR and your current rank's average (or pre-set) MMR value.
  • Possibly other factors

Riot has not released the exact values.

For the record, individual performance within a specific game has no bearing on the MMR gains/losses (though it is a common misconception).
