@riot I do not agree, AT ALL with your choice to update zac over other champions

Most notably Malphite, although one of the more 'support' vanguards would have been great as well (leona).

Zac has uniqueness that no one else has (his blob passive sustain and blob anti death) and a fun identity that is pretty fullfilling. He FEELS blobby when playing him. While his ult definitly falls into the 'amumu knock off' category it does it in a very different way. And Zac's E is one of the cooler gameplay moments around.

Malphite... press R and occasionally E. He is just an amumu ult delivery system that can't be played in competitive anymore since competitive ping let's you dodge his ultimate too easily and... the rest of his kit is boring and easy to outplay. Source- I'm a malphite player... when I want a boring and easy game.

I just can't comprehend this. Can someone explain this choice?

Because these are meant to be smaller scale updates with a moderate sized impact (more bang for your development buck) where Malphite, Rammus, etc. would need considerably more work and need full scale VGUs to go with it. This isn't THE Tank update, its just getting the most out of a few resources to push some Champions in a better direction.

They are wasting half a year on 2 champions that are balance able and receive decent amounts of play. Its insulting to vanguard tank players. How are more people not pissed?

Where did it say Zac is going to be on the update?

The announcement is on the Dev Corner.

As for OP's question. Riot was leaving out anyone who they thought needed a full VGU, Which I believe includes Malphite, as well as Amumu.

Zac seemed like a moderate weight champ when it came to what he needs. He has aspects which are already unique, and they thought those could be polished up.

Also, support vanguards themselves are pretty unique. The only support vanguards really are Leona and Natilus. (I'm not including Thresh or Blitzcrank because their abilities are designed to make picks rather than engage)

**IF they intentionally left Amumu and Malph out of this update then why bother having a vanguard update? ** Vanguard update was 100% the time to hit malph... he's the one who needs it more than anyone... without doing him there is no reason. I just can't wrap my head around this. Riot is awesome, but this is just like their obsession with Ryze and Taric. Those two cheeky fluffs get updates yearly and everyone else gets left at the curb. Alistar, Taric, and Braum are pretty vanguardy. Definitions get a little fuzzy between vanguard and warden.

They apparently tried Malphite but nothing really clicked (apparently they tried to give him an ability to be a wall for synergy with wall abilities).

The main difference between the two subclasses is one is more about engaging while the other is more peeling. Granted that can be hard to distinguish because rarely can CC be only used offensively or defensively.

I mean again, Riot was leaving out anyone they thought needed a full VGU. And that's not uncommon for Riot's roster updates as of late. They left Akali out of the Assassin update, (thought he did get minor work) for the same reason.

It's also not just about the champions. They said their going to look into their itemization and scaling. And that's going to impact the entire role, and not just the champions being focused on.
