Gangplank

I tried just for fun in a match just now. Started Q for the harass and item 3302 for the gold and hp.

Using your Q on a minion will give you the bonus gold from the Q and share the gold/xp and give half its mana cost back. And he gets good AD per level so using Relic shield is pretty easy.

With my passive and Q I literally killed the vayne and blitz for a double after my graves died, and could decently solo the ADC but not before she got a bork and level 6.

Other than that, your passive gives DOT damage and a slow. Which is good.

Your Q is free harass and something to execute minions with your relic shield. Which is good. I maxed this second for the damage to help duel and win fights with my ADC.

Your W is a free cleanse and some sustain in lane. But I maxed it last.

Your E gives you more AD and movespeed and buffs all allies movement speed and AD so I used it before fights, and at higher ranks the movement speed it gives is amazing for running away. I maxed this first.

And your ult is amazing, the buff gives it more damage in a fight and it gives a decent slow, to catch out people or save allies

My build was item 3401 item 3158 item 3075 item 3143 item 3102 item 2049

It was also insanely fun, has anyone here tried this, and what do you think about Gankplank support? Because he has good harass, tankiness, good ult, movement and AD steriod.

I did it once, made sure to build Zeke's Herald and Aegis

Was providing my ADC with +40 AD, +10% Lifesteal, +20 MR

That is a huge amount of stats

I know there are a few (non-troll) GP supports around here, no idea who though.

Of course I was not trolling, he can actually do an amazing support job

That's about what I build with Supportplank. If you don't need to block single, hard hitting abilities, maybe item 3222 instead of Veil to save an ally (who has no nifty oranges) and sustain your own.

He's great for picking up assists while nowhere close, too, because his global Ult and large radius E buff.

When ahead I go damage with Iceborn Gauntlet and Statikk Shiv for great burst and increased wave clear and chase. Had a game with Protatomonster and it went quite well.

Gangplank is labeled "Secondary: Support". As a relatively avid GP player this has always irked me. See, what you've got to understand is that there's a difference between having utility and being a support, and GP is the former.

The way you can tell is by looking at what he brings to the lane.

  • He has no ability to hard engage
  • He has no ability to disengage from a bad situation or allow his partner to do so
  • He has no ability to sustain his laning partner
  • His poke is relatively minor, costs a lot of mana, delays the leveling of other skills, and is easily countered by armor and any form of sustain on part of the enemy
  • His Raise Morale only grants 6-20 AD to his partner, depending on rank

Honestly, Gangplank has a very selfish kit.

  • His passive is a DoT and the slow is relatively weak
  • His Q is best used for farming in the early game, and needs the backing of a lot of damage/crit/onhit items in the lategame or else the enemy can simply ignore it.
  • His W can heal him and cleanse disables, but he can only use it on himself, not his partner.
  • His E gives good movespeed and some token AD, but the effects are stronger on him than others; it has the most benefit when all 4 of his teammates are nearby (which doesn't happen while you're laning).
  • His R is best used to assist lanes he's not in, which hurts the duo lane if he's also in it.

And really, with a build like that, I would just ignore you. Your CC is weak, you deal no damage, and you bring no meaningful utility to the rest of your team.

I have always been against the idea of Support GP and I always will be. GP isn't a team player. He has absolutely nothing in his kit befitting the role of Support. He's a pirate; he's a selfish, greedy son of a bitch.
