I know my question won't get answered by a riot member, but its worth a shot I guess. Every champ in your game has a basic build you give to your players, and in that basic build you mark a few items for each champ as essential items. Could you ex plane to your players why they are marked as essential?
I remember when they used to show items and masteries in champion spotlights, and explained how/why the covered champion's weaknesses and/or accentuated their strengths.
The reason why I asked the question is pretty simple. If you look at the definition of essential this is what comes up.

Seeing how the word means something so important then I would only come to the conclusion that ex planing why it is should be just as important. Don't you think riot?
They mean core. As in, these items synergize well with the champion. Honestly listing why the item works well would take too much ui space.
I could go on for ages about why gunblade is core on katarina, or how runnan’s is the best item in the game ever on jinx.
It just takes too much space.
