New Ranked Queue - READ BEFORE COMPLAINING PLEASE

Riot has stated already, in the initial preseason notes about it, that with the dynamic queue, there is only a 5% chance you will get matched up with unevenly queued teams.

For example, if you solo queue, you might be paired with another solo queue player, and a trio. The enemy team, 95% of the time, will be 2 solos and 1 trio. You could also be a duo and a trio vs a duo and a trio.

The ONLY issue I see with this is pairing solo queue players with more than a duo-queue. Trio is eh, but doing a 4+1 vs 4+1 is honestly not the best idea, as explained by DotA removing this as an option in their ranked party queue.

//Edit: Adding math from one of my comments. This is regarding the 5% chance to have uneven matches in terms of party size stated on the initial web page about the dynamic queue.

Let's say you play 10 ranked games per day. Out of those, 5% will be imbalanced in terms of queue size. This is 0.5 games per day, or 1 game every other day. That game could be in yours or the enemy's favor. So, since, statistically, it will be 50/50 your favor/enemy's favor, that means that every 4 days you will have an unbalanced game in the enemy's favor.

Wow. I here I came for an explanation of why the New Champ Select wasn't out

Tsk tsk

I wish I had that explanation. Sadly, I am not a red and I am just a lowly boards lurker who is tired of seeing complaints from people who don't comprehend what they read (or not read at all)

You say that as if a 5% chance is acceptable. We play in a game where the difference between climbing up is literally 1 or 2%. You do not climb if you have a 49% winrate. You expect people to not be upset over suddenly losing several percentage points of games? If you are a solo player, you are significantly more likely to get stuck in the team with inferior communication. While it's true that luck will occasionally work in your favor, usually it won't. Players actually grouped will have a statistical advantage, and solo-queue players will have to be a little better to be at the same rank.

I don't even care about the queue change, (I'm not high elo enough for it to impact me anyway) but it's ridiculous to claim that it won't hurt the solo experience.

The 5% chance is acceptable for the following reason:

-You still have a decent chance to win if you get in that unlucky 5% chance. The 5% chances WILL balance out to be 5% in your favor and 5% in the enemy's favor. And even then, in lower ranks, this won't even apply at all. -With proper communication, which League is all about, the number of people you queue with does not matter at all. In lower ranks, this doesnt apply due to both lack of communication and lack of party size even mattering much. -It's 5%. That means 5 of every 100 games you play will be skewed in favor of 1 team due to a bigger party. This also means that 5 of every 200 games will be in your favor, and 5 of 200 in the enemy's favor, like stated in the first point. This is NOT a big amount in the long run. -In lower elos, this 5% will replace the anywhere from 5% to I'd say 50% chance you have of getting a champ select troll. Plus EVERYONE gets the role they want. It's a LOT better odds to play with people who get don't their roles stolen by trolls or don't get them in the first place. -In higher elos, you will have the communication. Look back at the second point.

Also, you saying "it usually wont work in your favor" is untrue. It will even out to be about 50/50. If you think back, I bet you can remember numerous games you lost due to bad teammates. I bet you can't remember many, if any, games you won due to the enemy having bad teammates. Our brains are wired to put more emphasis on the negatives rather than the positives, which is why this is so skewed unless you actually write down and keep track of every single time you have a game where either team has a bad teammate.

When I say bad teammates I do NOT mean skill level, btw. I mean trolls/ragers/feeders/hardcore tilted/etc.

Not to say the logic isn't correct, it definitely is. Unfortunately, our brains operate via emotions, not logic, regardless of how hard we work to use logic instead. The vast majority of people are not capable of separating out the logic from out emotional lives. You dismissed the fact that we are wired to pay more attention to and remember slights against us than slights against somebody else as something that isn't real; You mean to say something that only exists in our thought processes doesn't matter.

So in the virtue of making a game fun, which is presumably why we play games, that 2.5% chance of having at least 20 minutes of your gameplay dicked over by having a team that is vastly more coordinated than your own can come with very real emotions that definitely impact how/why/if you play League of Legends. I play games to have fun, which is entirely an emotional response. So why would I exclusively only consider the logic of an aspect of the game. I think the emotions are just as important.

Amumu TL;DR That feel is real.

Even with that issue existing, the rest of the points still apply. In higher ELOs and lower ELOs alike, I do believe this will create a more fun environment while also cutting down on toxicity due to tilt.

In higher ELOs, people can play with more friends, climb easier, and have more fun. (Rumor has it that Plat has the attitudes of Bronzies...)

In lower ELOs, people can play with more friends, can make sure they get their wanted role, and will cut down on trolls (specifically champ-select trolls), thus drastically reducing tilt. This tilt reduction will make the community better because when players are on tilt, they tend to be significantly more toxic than normal as well as more likely to tilt their allies through said behaviors and poor plays.

This system is VERY good and will work VERY well. The 5%, like I said, will balance, and is also such a small portion of your games, that it won't even matter. I'd say the average player plays about 5-10 league games a day in ranked, if that. On my days off, I play league nearly all day, and only manage a max of 10 ranked games a day.

MATH TIME!!! To make it easier, let's say you play 10 ranked games per day. Out of those, 5% will be imbalanced in terms of queue size. This is 0.5 games per day, or 1 game every other day. This is highly insignificant, even more so if you play less.

Communication takes skill, no one stops you from inviting or asking to get invited in your team's voice chat.

Actually, my team is. They need to actually want to do that. Nobody in solo-queue wants to do that.

I don't even care about this argument, but your point is wrong.

Obviously in the toxic end of silver from the looks of this post. As a resident S3 on one of my accs, I do get teams with good communication fairly often. It's about taking initiative and setting up said communication channels so they know you're willing to listen. You being open to listening means they will also be more willing to listen. Also, being nice goes a million miles further. As a supp main, suck their dicks even if they're being toxic. Then just report them after if needed.

Much context given I see... If you don't want to play as a proper team then it's your problem, it'll mean that you'll rely more on your individual skill. There are just many ways of winning a game.

Just invite more people? I'm normally a lone wolf on ranked but there are a hanful of people I still rank from time to time it shuldn't be that hard to be a tad more sociable

I don't know anyone. Like at all. My friends list consists of my 2 smurf accounts. You'd think it'd be easy to meet people, considering I play with 5 people every game. I'm just too much of a brat. When you tilt every game, no one wants to play with you, you know? Even if you wind up carrying.

My friend list consist of around 50% of people I carried one or several times and they just add me so I can carry them again, 25% people with skill way ahead of me which thinks I'm somewhat funny and the people I do most of my troll games with, 10% of people that I'm actually friends with, I met them on league and we get along quite well, is the people I play the most with and the ones I rank the most, 14% is friends with the people from the previous group (friends of my friends) we play often but I don't know much about them and around 1% is people that I actually know from real life and have some connection besides a game. So... I have a group where I'm a brat, I have a group where I'm funny, I have a group where I look like a pro (even thou I'm not that good). People have different reasons to play with you even if you are a brat xD

I'm gonna bump this up after seeing all the complain threads. Please guys, read the OP as well as the comments added by me and others. This is a GOOD UPDATE. The only downside I see, at all, is team builder removal (which, while I did play team builder, I'm glad to see the replacement in the form it is. It's team builder without the off-meta pick shunning/kicking and shorter queue times. Only "negative" difference is the secondary role pick, which, if you can't or won't play a secondary role, please do not play.)

Bumping it again, seeing a bunch more complaints STILL. Please, read through this post and the comments. It's important shit...
