Snowballing

I think we can all agree that 30 minute games in Summoner's Rift is not fun. It works alright in ARAM and Dominion but that is because gold gain is less about farming and more about fighting. Farming CS is a core aspect of Summoner's Rift, so doing away with it won't likely happen. Snowballing this preseason has been made so potent this preseason that people keep taking the gamble and it either sinks their team or they get kills and the other team surrenders.

**Congrats Riot, you succeeded at shortening games. People either ragequit by 20 minutes or lose in 30 beacuse 1 player got slightly fed and snowballed like crazy. Seriously, THIS IS NOT FUN. If its not ranked, fun is the most important goal to reach; Fun is the priority in normal play, so stop screwing it up. **

I have a permanent solution to snowballing that might prove to be compelling in both ranked and normal matches for Summoner's Rift. Essentially when a player gets a kill, they don't get the Gold and XP right away. It sits in a pool as a buff on their character, killing minions and gaining gold from gold income will grant you a percent of gold and xp from your pool. If the player dies, they lose the accumulated pool; meaning if somebody who gets 1st blood and gets killed off right away then they never snowball because they never got a chance to farm. This would preserve the idea that farming is very important in Summoner's Rift and provide a short-term counterplay option against players that get fed. Say an enemy ADC gets a double kill in lane, well the jungler and mid go kill him jointly before he can get very much gold or xp farmed up, and thus halting any snowballing.

As the game progresses the percent gold from killing minions with a pool would increase until all you have to do is kill 1 minion to get all the gold gained. Assists would not apply because while you can snowball from them, the rate is not nearly as bad. In the end, snowballing could take place but only for those that keep playing well, not just getting a fluke victory or lucky crit, to win the day.

If I get fed regardless of if I die right after, I should be given an advantage in some way not have it taken away. I think your idea is neat and all but I don't think this would help the game at all. If riot were to adopt this change games would no longer be 30 minutes sure, but I think the game would become even more stale because all it would be is a farm fest all game till about the 45 minutes mark and then team fight gg game over. Death timers to long. Your idea seems like it doesn't reward anyone for taking risk or being aggressive early and picking up those first few kills to start the snowball. Your idea actually seems like it punishes that.

The problem is, there is no difference between the skilled player and the lucky player when it comes to getting fed. This wouldn't discourage kills, because if you balance killing with farming you make a ton of gold from it. But if you die at the end of a fight then you don't get much unless you got mostly assists. You'll notice the minions required to get the gold pool is made less as the game goes on because we transition away from a laning phase towards a teamfight phase; as such getting the gold from a teamfight needs to be less cumbersome.

You might not like a farm fest, but it is the most feasible way to balance things, it would also make certain items much more visible like item 1083 and the gold income items like item 3301 and item 3302.

I have no idea why, but I've actually been having a lot longer games when I play Garen top. It may be because I die so much less and so the enemy can't snowball off me but at the same time I just get more gradually broken as the game goes on, i never just get truly broken out of nowhere off a kill or two and take the game by storm.

you're playing garen, he doesn't go nuts from an item or two, ADCs tend to. Certain Assassin champions like FIzz do as well, the tipping point is it solves a major issue with the champ and it causes them to become obscenely powerful.
