Proposed Sona Rework

Pika310··33 votes·3,809 views

We all know Sona is broken, hence why she's eaten close to 20 nerfs in the past half year and has 100% pick/ban. This proposed kit will solve all of Riot's concerns and make her truly "balanced."

Health: 180 - 365 Health Degen: 10 - 30 (Sona loses this much HP per 5) Mana: 232 - 745 Mana Regen: 5.67 - 12.5 Ranged: 125 Attack Damage: 42.968 - 87.168 Attack Speed: 0.579 (+0% - 0.5%) Armor: 16 - 58.5 Magic Resistance: 25 Movement Speed: 320

Abilities: Activating an ability makes a 125-radius "aura" for 0.5 seconds and puts a 3-second cooldown on all of her other abilities. The "aura's" duration is increased by 0.125 seconds for each ally tagged for a max of 1 second.

Power Chord: After activating 10 abilities, Sona's next basic attack does bonus magic damage of 3 + (1 x level) (+ 5% AP)

Hymn of Valor: Range: 175; Cost: 150/175/200/225/250 Mana; Cooldown: 20 Active: Sona sends out a skillshot hitting for the first enemy. "Aura": Sona plays a loud upbeat song for 20 seconds. Allies tagged glow brightly with blue bravery for 10 seconds. Oh... and their next basic within 0.5 seconds does extra damage. Power Chord - Staccato: If this spell was cast last, Power Chord does 2.5% more damage.

Magic Damage: 5/10/15/20/25 (+ 5% AP) On-hit Magic Damage: 1/2/3/4/5 (+ 1% AP)

Aria of Perseverance: Range: 350; Cost: **250/300/350/400/450 **Mana and 20% Max HP; Cooldown: 25 Active: Sona heals her most injured ally other than herself. "Aura": Sona plays a booming downbeat song for 20 seconds. Allies tagged glow a bright cool green for 10 seconds. There might be a shield for 0.1 seconds, who can tell? Power Chord - Diminuendo: If this was the most recent spell, Power Chord reduces damage dealt by the target by 4% for 1 second.

Heal: 3/6/9/12/15 (+ 2% AP) ?Shield? Strength: 3.5/7/10.5/14/17.5

Song of Celerity: Cost:** 200 **Mana; Cooldown: 30 Active: Sona gains movement speed for 0.25 seconds. "Aura": Sona plays an ear-piercing off-beat din for 20 seconds. Allies tagged glow a dark purple for 10 seconds. They also get MS for 0.125 seconds, I guess. Powerchord - Tempo: If Sona used this spell most recently, Powerchord slows her target by 2% for 0.5 seconds.

Self Movement Speed: 1/2/3/4/5 % "Aura" Move Speed: 0.5/1/1.5/2/2.5 %

Crescendo: Range: 2500; Cost: 1050/1575/2100 Mana; Cooldown: 300 Sona plays a sudden sonic boom with a 2500 radius, stunning herself and all allied units and structures for 7 seconds and forcing them to dance through the full duration. ** Dancing structures will deal true damage each second to all allied units within 1000 units of them.**

Damage to allies: 333/667/1000 (+ 375% AP) Structure damage to allies: 300/450/600

Edit: *New! *Trinket - Finger Necklace: Each time Sona dies, Finger Necklace gains a stack (max 10). For each stack on finger necklace, Sona's spells and attacks have their effectiveness reduced by 10%. Finger Necklace cannot gain the active abilities of other trinkets.

5 Stacks: The cooldowns and mana costs of Sona's spells are doubled and her attack speed is reduced by 50%.

10 Stacks: Sona cannot cast spells or perform basic attacks.

The patch after that:

New! - Foot enchantment: Sona can spend 3000 gold similarly to how Viktor upgrades his Hexcore to add a foot enchantment to her Finger Necklace (max 2). For each enchantment Sona loses 50% movement speed and at 2 enchantments she radiates a 5000 unit aura that applies the same slow to her team while speeding up the enemy team by the same amount.

I'm sure Fearless will be proud of this. Clarity above all else, what says clarification more than making your team glow brightly for 10 seconds? This also gives Sona the counter-play she needs in the form of windows of opportunity for her opponents.

To quote Riot:** "This is really a buff, trust us." **Sona

Hey now, you give Fearless too much credit. He's obviously ranked soggy paper division 13.

Inspired by Rengar, Sona will now get a new stacking item in place of her trinket slot. We hope this buff will help curb her power to a manageable level:

New! Trinket - Finger Necklace: Each time Sona dies, Finger Necklace gains a stack (max 10).

Mm yes, Sona loves auras. I'm sure this one will complement the play-style Riot envisions for her quite perfectly.

Pika3104 votes

That is correct, the structures will be dancing. Perhaps a laser light show or something, if they don't want them to physically move.

probably the best thing. if structures does lasers, it would totes fit to the new Sona skin that's coming!!! (even if it would be pretty, no one would play it lmao)

Ya, it really is a shame. They're intentionally throwing away their own profits with their anti-Sona crusade. Honestly, I don't know what Riot has against Sona, but it's unprofessional. Holding grudges and angering customers isn't how a proper business is run.

Emmy Cha0s3 votes

Whatever happened to the motto of, "The customer is always right."? It's such a simple concept, yet it seems to be completely lost on the companies of modern day. What could have occurred to make everyone forget about it?

Of course what players say must be taken with a grain of salt, but not all of us are idiots. A good number of players actually know what they're saying and it's easily apparent which ones. Must we keep being given the runaround?

Nubeel5 votes

My theory is the marketing department died and was replaces with 4th graders that got lost on a tour during a school trip.

They're using Sona to teach them math. "now Jimmy, decrease the AP ration on her ult by 43%. Don't forget to show your work".

Nubeel1 votes

Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation so saying Laser light is redundant and just plain incorrect.

I believe she needs a base health reduction here. Wouldnt want her to be tankier than a caster minion now, would we?

Pika3104 votes

Well, her starting HP is identical to a caster minion and her level 18 HP is the same as the first Siege Minion. I think you're right though, minions don't have armor, but Sona does. She definitely needs a base HP nerf to make certain she won't inadvertently survive that 2nd auto-attack.

Assuming +9 from yellow runes and her base 16 armor, her effective health at level 1 is +25%. Veteran Scars gives +36 HP and Juggernaut is another +3%, then another -3 damage from Block and Unyielding. Thus, I will lower her base HP to 180, this guarantees her effective health is below the 290 of a caster minion. Here's the math:

180 + 36 = 216 216 x 1.03 = 222.48 222.48 x 1.25 = 278.1 278.1 + 6 = 284.1

Likewise, with the same math and with her level 18 armor subbed in, I'll be lowering her level 18 HP to 365. Thank you for the input.

I spit my drink all over my keyboard while reading this, will have to buy a new one.

I think that Sona should have to compensate for this by increasing her mana costs (at all ranks) by 50 across the board.

Pika3103 votes

Heh heh, that makes two confirmed spit-takes now. As it is right now, I have all 4 abilities listed as flat costs. Thanks to that great response, I'll get on right away to adding some increased costs per-rank and throw in that extra 50 on top. After all, with all the extra power this gives her, trade-offs must be made.

They might just hate Sona enough to do this.

Emmy Cha0s2 votes

I'd believe that, it seems apparent enough. When the "rework" was on PBE, everyone said "This is bad, don't do this." It was rushed to live prematurely and everyone said "This is bad, why did you do this?" Here we are over 5 months later, they're still ignoring us.

I think this seems to be what Riot is working toward, but could we improve it? We could give her the Soraka treatment have her damage herself every time she heals someone else. Of course, we can't just let her get lots of health regen items to counter this, so we should lower her base health regen a bit. To a negative number. That way she's constantly losing health and won't be able to stay in lane forever and become toxic to her opponents. This also has the added benefit of making items that boost health regen make her lose more health per second instead, so we don't have to worry about tanky Sona!

Pika3105 votes

Yes, but to make sure Sona doesn't outshine Soraka, it should be a higher cost. Perhaps 20% of her Max HP per cost of W.

As for her health degen, I'll just use Mundo's Burning Agony as a base for now.

Thanks for the input, to quote Fearless: "She needs all the suggestions she can get to make this rework successful."

THANK YOU.

Sona needs nerfs as she's the new Mid Soraka. Once it catches on, prepare for a full Sona gutting (read: rework).

This reminds me of Ye Olde Fanadin the Firelord on DotA 1 a really long time back. Dude's abilities were so bad that he was literally useless. He had a dot, similar to the Ogre Magi, for anyone who plays DotA, of today that did damage and slowed the target. The kicker? Unlike Ogre Magi whose dot is actually decent and the slow is a nice % based reduction, Fanadin's reduced it by 5. Not 5%, just a flat 5. In a time where Void Demon and Permastealthed Death Ward Riki (under a different name back then, Ryu Hasabana) ran rampant. His ult was also a joke because it was similar to Crystal Maiden's of today, but with an absolutely enormous build-up time where no one, short a person caught in ye olde outrageous 10 second snare of the Astral Trekker, would get caught in it.

I'm really interested in what sort of dance the minions will do. Even better, I'm super excited to see what sort of way they're gonna come up with to make turrets and inhibs "dance." Oh, I'm sure the nexus' dance will be especially entertaining.

They would do a dance that would damage Sona's team for 300 true damage a second for the duration of the ult

Pika3103 votes

Mm yes, I like it! Crazy things happen when your dancing gets out of control, that's only natural! The greater the rhythm, the louder the beat, the more you want to groove! Can't let nobody get in the way of that.

It Is I Emoto4 votes

at least she would be able to use relic shield that heals more than her w (forgot to add that LMAO)

Pika3104 votes

Dang, you have a point. Whelp, we can't have a broken champ like this be able to use Relic Shield. If a HeroClix can attack with range up-close, why not Sona? That decides it, she'll be considered ranged, but with the same actual range. Even better, this means she can use Hurricane again and not have to resort to bad items like Hydra.

It Is I Emoto4 votes

that's great! we don't want that this freelo champ gets too op!!!!

Mm, someone just reminded me of this buff suggestion. It's been a long time since I last thought about it. I'm truly amazed Riot didn't implement this, it's quite strong and well-thought out.
