Riot, do you intend Blade of the Ruined King to be an anti-tank item or a peel/chasing item?

It just feels like BotRK is a really confused item gameplay wise. It gives 3 AD-related stats in small-ish amounts, has a percentage health damage value (good for killing tanks), but then also has a slow active (good for getting someone off you as ranged or catching up to someone as melee).

I'm fine with BotRK being a "item to let me kill tanks faster". We already have one of those with Last Whisper (because of the way armor works, it's actually a "kill everything faster" item), but another one won't hurt. I'm also fine with it being an "item to get people off of me/help me catch up to people". Frozen Mallet exists but is horrendously cost inefficient for anyone who would consider buying it, and it also doesn't help melees catch ranged, so BotRK is fine as that kind of item.

I just don't think that it should be both at once. In that form, it's far too strong for both ranged champions against tanks and for assassins against ranged champions. If it's important to balance that both the %HP and active are available, then split BotRK into two items. But having both on one item is really silly, and is a big contributor to the problems with AD itemization in League.

Original intent was to provide a tool for countering HP stacking.

We've since discovered that it's super efficient for killing squishy targets too.

Oops.

I actually think that this is a really good conversatoin.

Blade does several things- Adds really good sustain in fights Gives a combination of peel/chase potential through it's active Destroys tanks via the %hp damage.

I'm curious as to why Riot thinks 1 item needs ALL of that. It's incredibly slot efficient in a way very few other items are (maybe Zhonyas is comparable)

Well, Blade of the Ruined King is meant to be an ideal adc item; as it shreds your enemies down quickly, and the slow is actually a movespeed steal, meaning you go faster, as well as heal a bit. It's basically a double wammy that provides everything an adc could want

They claim bork was intended to give fighters a damage item that doesn't depend on scaling with other stats. Which is pretty funny because fighters usually have to build tanky after triforce to not die instantly in teamfights so bork is primarily used by ad carries to kill fighters and tanks.

It's anti-tank. And while I will say the item is a BIT confused, you can definitely use its active to get away from an initiating tank.
