I feel Fiora could become League's highest skill cap champion.

As the grand duelist, it's only fitting when Fiora's reworked that her summoner be forced to have a hard time controlling the most skilled fencer in all of Runeterra.

Why? I feel that Fiora's character does not pity the weak. If the summoner in question is not up to her caliber, she would be extremely ineffective. In fact, when she's reworked, I hope that she'll become the highest skill cap melee champion in the game.

I go as far as to say I hope that her kit will have so much depth and be so intense that even the highest level summoners that we know today in professional play won't be able to master her mechanics easily.

After all, Fiora won't settle for anything but the highest display of combat skill in order to prove to herself and the world that her family's name lives up to its honor, untainted by the detestable acts of her Father.

Fiora "I came here seeking a challenge—is this the best these fools can offer me?"

An overloaded kit is not skill, a limited kit is where the skill lies.

The reasoning is simple, because while playing an overloaded champion and you do something spectacular, it is simply due to your champion allowing that possibility to happen while the champion with a kit that is half as big as yours needs to work around to find solutions.

That's the fundamental difference between "can" and "can not", while the factors are defined, not made. Working around is skill, while using what you have on the table is only natural and it's just something everybody does while playing a champion, hence it's meaningless to coin around the term "high skillcap" as you're playing a champion that has a kit that is simply bigger than your opponent's.

Today, "High skill cap" has lost its meaning and becomes a word to be played around by the people who likes to play an OP champion that involves no fundamental risk, in other words, meaningful counterplay options.

All champions should have a restricting kit, because this is not a 2D fighter, nor is this a rambo mmo, it's still a team game in the core, after all.

All Fiora need is flexibility that gives some unpredictable elements, that should be enough. And that's closer to what we initially say as "high skillcap".

I agree. A champion need not be complex to have a high skill cap. An example of this would be Katarina. Knowing your damage well and executing her combos quickly gets you far.

What I meant by depth is an ability like Alpha Strike, for example. It's mechanically simple but has so much depth, so much interesting and meaningful interactions with other abilities that goes beyond just "oh another gap closer". I hope that Fiora will have windows of opportunity to execute moves with depth only dreamt of before her rework.

Currently with the way she is. She isn't a duelist she is a dive a whole team and ult, your ult taking a few people down then picking off the rest.

Her rework is going to make her more 1v1 focused.

Tis a nice day5 votes

I was thinking more Alistar due to how easy it is to save your enemies and screw over your teammates with a misplaced headbutt.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

Are you trying to use Alpha Strike as an in-depth skillful ability comparison? Isn't that Yi's mini Fiora ult he can spam and like, get's cooldowns on?

Starting cd is 18 seconds, max level is 14 seconds.

You need to build cdr, AA or kill somebody (this one only works after 6) to reset it faster.

It's a single target spell but it can also be used as a safe poke, a dash over wall and a dodge for the most deadliest spells like Karth's ulti. It's actually a pretty in-depth skill if you know how, which is why it's the "skill".

Squarefighter3 votes

I think it can be either/or honestly.

No matter what, you can not argue that Azir, Thresh, Zed, or Lee are not high skill champions. Say whatever you will about them, but they're definitely very tricky to use to their full potential. On the other hand, having a kit with a ton of options doesn't necessitate a high skill cap, just as having very few doesn't necessitate a low one.

tofutime1 votes

Yet they can give her many more options in her playstyle and limit her power to those who can utilize all her options.

Giving her kit "few tools" just means there's not much variety to her play and thus people can pick it up very easily and simply. Giving her many tools allows for players to explore the various ways to win fights. They can lower her stats to make sure that only those who can fully utilize the many tools in her kit can make the champ feel powerful. That should be the philosophy behind it.

Prepare for an extremely loaded CertainlyT new Fiora. ;^)

guys that are trying to make out fiora to be hard to play are funny. I mained her last season to diamond and she is the same as irelia, ball of stats with no decisions to make. You are either ahead and faceroll your opponent or you are behind and get facerolled. thats it.

Xx420n0sc0p3sxX1 votes

Irelia, ball of stats....the only stats she gets is the w stats, 2. I suppose the ult healing and the passive. Please don't compare Irelia to Fiora, Irelia has atleast some difficulty (Mainly in her q).

slippykitten4 votes

So lets make her resourceless, have unlimited mobility, awesome waveclear, more damage (both burst and sustained) than any other champion, a shield to absorb damage, a move that blocks all incoming damage, and a passive that doubles all her stats if the summoner you are playing against isnt already crying.

But if we make her have skillshots, we can say she has a high skillcap to warrant a kit like that.

What Is Smite3 votes

In all honesty as a Fiora main, her kit is not as easy as some people make it out to be. Her kit is based off the idea that you can outplay your opponent before they and you hit any power spikes. What people who play Fiora for freelo think is that if you faceroll your keyboard you can win almost any lane match. I see so many people building Zerker Greaves on her I just facepalm sometimes because Merc/Tabi are better options for her boots. I follow Relentless Rain as to how to build Fiora since he is the true Fiora Master.

Silents4296 votes

"LOLOLLOL they built the wrong boots i am a pro!!"

She isn't that hard to play.

What Is Smite2 votes

She's not hard to play but it is hard to master her, she's sort of like riven in the sense of a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling

Silents4294 votes

She really isn't.

It might take 1 or 2 games to figure her out, but she isn't complicated the slightest, and I don't just mean mechanics wise. Her whole style is rush in and kill things, their isn't more to her then that.

Greenette1 votes

{quoted}

Her whole style is rush in and kill things, their isn't more to her then that.

People seem to only mention that this is one of the central elements to her play style. No one cares to mention her bad lane phase where she literally needs to claw out an advantage for herself or be useless all game. Or the fact that she isn't truly untargetable in her ult (I've killed many Fiora's mid ult, I'm sure every has) or that she doesn't have very many good match ups.

Her kit is straight forward and that's not a bad thing. People thinking that because of this she's easy freelo is the bad thing. Her kit is simple, it doesn't give you a lot of options but it's powerful when used properly and that's the bottom line. She only becomes a monster when a team doesn't address her early, if they opt out of late game insurance then they're going to pay for it.

Silents4291 votes

Dude you are overlooking how much your main really is. No her laning phase isn't terrible, she can have some bad matchups but thats why you play safe until 6, pre 6 she can still beat the shit out of some top laners.

Her laning phase is when she becomes a beast, it has never been hard for her. And useless all game? It is beyond easy to swipe a few kills with her ult in a team fight or find a squishy just like a Riven does with her ult to catch back up.

Well I don't know what the hell "Truly untargetable" means but you can't target her, Whether she can be killed during it or not, it isn't that easy to do, and not everyone can do it. They are usually dead before they can react. And only her ult makes people in team fights say "Everyone split up" which if you know anything about this game splitting up during a team fight generally means you just lost it.

Her kit is straight forward and that IS a bad thing, She is difficult to balance like many old champions because tweaking numbers will make her shit or overpowered.

And let me stress this, Killing a champions early game for snowballers like Riven, Nasus, and Fiora doesn't do jackshit. Yes getting them fed early is horrid but you aren't going to prevent them from snowballing, no matter how bad their laning phase was.

Your main is an old champion that needs a rework, she is currently either useless entirely without kills or snowballs and carries games with ease. And you can't fix it with a nerf or buff, she needs a rework.

tofutime1 votes

Fiora is very unlike Riven. Riven relies on combos and animation cancelling. Fiora's animations are fast enough especially with E activated where she does not need to cancel anything. Her Q animation is also fast. Riven on the other hand has a delay on her ultimate activation due to a long animation. Riven mains negate this with a skill or hydra active. Riven also relies on movement cancels to keep her going during broken wings. Fiora on the other hand weaves in a few autos between Qs. That's about it. There's no need to cancel anything. There is no wallhopping going on Fiora. She sees a target and she clicks on them. That's it.

tofutime1 votes

She is really easy to play, has a limited playstyle and a very easy early game where you can abuse her high AD. There is nothing hard about her and you making an example that some people build the wrong boots on her kind of highlights the point. Item builds doesn't even relate to the champion's kit.

Her kit in reality isn't complex. Her ult is a point and click invulnerability skill. She has a double dash again point and click. An AS/MS steroid. Boring. A W with an unrewarding active. Great you blocked one auto attack. It's like a worse version of pantheon's shield. This whole kit gives her only one style. Dash in and kill people. If you don't have enough damage, you're dead so you better build the right boots guyz!

VardenSalad1 votes

I'd been looking for high ELO Fiora mains. Thanks for the heads up.

What Is Smite1 votes

go to lolskill.net and look on the top list with fiora on the champion filter it should give you the top 1k Fiora players worldwide or if you just want NA you can filter it to only that region but the results become smaller

Jolly Rogered3 votes

I hope they remove that bullshit untargetable ult.

I like this idea.

A Miss Fortune2 votes

Fiora doesn't really need to be reworked, she does have a decent skill requirement to play her. Any player who doesn't know Fiora well will get destroyed by a Teemo for example who will come back to haunt us with half healthing shrooms, which I've seen happen often. Though the one time I play Fiora who I have played often, I go 20/2 against Teemo and 1v3 their ADC, Support, and Mid laner late game. This is just my experience with Fiora however. Fiora is also countered by a lot of people like Darius, but hey who doesn't he counter besides Critamere/Sustainamere, or burst damage mages like Leblanc that just has to hit Q, R, W.

This thread is kinda hilarious. I guess like 50% of people who post don't read anything except for the title.

I think the right way to get for high skill cap on melee champions is to use skills that have different conditional effects which can be good or bad depending on the situation as well as mechanics like melee skillshots.

Imagine if fiora's lunge was like quins gapcloser where she dashes in for a quick hit and instantly leaps back except if it was a skillshot with a very thin spear like hitbox that activated on the first target hit and if you don't hit anything you don't bounce back at all. Or a melee slashing skillshot that is like darius's spin in that it has a radial ring except it only does damage if you hit someone who is an exact distance from her, and if you hit no champion with it then you go off balance and are stunned for a half second. Or A skillshot version of riposte that only blocks attacks from one direction in a small hitbox for a short time, but that has a long base cooldown and refreshes on a successful parry?

These kinds of options for abilities exist and could be sued to make for a very skillful playstyle involving timing, mindgames, reactions, spacing, accuracy, etc. You could adjust the payoff for various moves to match their difficulty such as doing a lot of damage on a small hit box move that leaves you open if you miss or like I said earlier refreshing the cooldown of parry if you manage to successfully block with it (maybe instead of the magic dmg it does now the animation for riposte is extended on succesful use to flick the sword quickly for a free auto attack hit that isn't part of the normal auto attack speed system) with something like a 14 second cooldown if whiffed, or give the lunge an armor shred like jarvans q if it lands on a champion (rapiers are specifically designed to defeat armor enemies after all).

0ny1 votes

Some great ideas, but you quickly run into problems with skills like slashing a specific area and getting punished for not hitting anything. Imagine trying to use that ability against Kalista. It quickly becomes a stun for the enemy. Still I think you've hit on an interesting point, that being meaningful risk and reward, which is a key balance issue for many champions.

The Sword Saint1 votes

Not only would it fulfill the fantasy better, but champions can have much higher reasonable power budgets when they actually have real drawbacks and even if played super well it seems like people would be less likely to get made at being defeated by this kind of melee champion.

It would be like.

"Well fuck I just got owned by Fiora... but I guess that getting hit by a dozen short range skillshots and having my attacks be so predictable that they could be parried with a .25s window over and over means I didn't deserve to win that fight..."

You don't think the 10 second Yi Q for an R is skilled?

Cayotic1 votes

Some champs have high mechanics which is very hard to learn and is very good for team fights but some champ like Fiora is easy to pick up for beginners so they can understand league more.

She had a rework planned, but it never went through, and I presume they abandoned reworking her or are still in progress since it has been months since anything was announced.

Those steroid numbers are a bit high, but damn, that would have been cool. It's really hard to justify buffing every ability that hard.

"I go as far as to say I hope that her kit will have so much depth and be so intense that even the highest level summoners that we know today in professional play won't be able to master her mechanics easily." So, you want Fiora to become Urgot basically

The Ellimiist1 votes

Sure if she were a completely different champ and not one of the easiest to play with all targeted abilities that require little skill and have little counterplay

Cerbearus1 votes

I hope she becomes a skillful champion like Yasuo, but more focused on the 1v1 dueling instead of teamfighting with reliance on teammates.

Anatharion1 votes

Nidalee is far harder to play than Fiora will ever be.

Miss all but one spear = win "skill"

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

We don't need artificial difficulty in this game. Skillcap is about planning and executing ridiculous plays, pixel-perfect mechanics, knowing how much damage everything does, etc. You don't need to throw another barrier in front of that.
