Talon does everything Zed does while doing huge AoE damage too because hey why the hell not

"Talon is what all assassins should be"

"Talon does everything Zed does" Talon has less effective range. Talon has no untargetability. Talon's waveclear costs mana (and he has only one effective waveclear spell). Talon has a gapcloser, but he has no other ways to reposition himself (other than stealthing and praying that the enemy team doesn't have an upgraded scanner or pink ward). Zed has 3 ways to reposition himself (W can be used as a freeform dash, and his ultimate is both a gapcloser and instant repositioning skill).
Talon is an example of an unhealthy assassin that's balanced because of his extremely high risk/high reward playstyle. Zed is a great example of a healthy assassin thats blatantly overpowered because his assassination offers counterplay, but everything else about him is absurdly overtuned.
Talon doesn't leave shadows behind that poke you from a distance.
but does he do it with style?
Talon doesn't have any method of escaping after he has gone into a fight. All he can really do is use his ultimate to escape (with the movement speed and stealth), but this can be easily prevented with a pink ward or an Oracle's Lens. In addition, he uses mana which can limit his early poke and harass significantly if he doesn't want to go OOM.
Zed can easily use his W or R shadow to escape from ganks or retreat after an all-in. In addition, Zed uses energy which allows him to regularly poke enemies during laning phase without the risk of going OOM.
Note that I don't particularly like to play either of them and I don't really have any issues playing against them. This was meant to be a relatively unbiased evaluation of their kits.
Talon is a Hell of a lot less safe than Zed. He's actually high risk high reward. His escape is pitifully bad, and Zed has massive escape potential. Zed has pre-6 escapability, Talon doesn't. Zed has long range, safe and purely CD-gated farming capacity. Talon doesn't.
Zed's massive safety advantage and overall better success as an assassin is why he is much more popular. It's like you've never played Talon.
Talon is a lot less safer than zed. I think he does a lot of upfront damage, but he cant reposition or escape nearly as easy.
Zed has a kit that at first glance looks good and fine as it is, but then you realize after a couple of games that it was a cross between a sixth grader who thought 'wow ninjas sure are cool!' and one of those fights between young kids where they one up each other with 'my guy cant die because (insert bullshit power here)'
