Jungle talon is the better talon. Here's why.
Now I've played my fair share of talon games, he sucks in the mid lane compared to other mid laners so I don't see a reason to pick him other than just wanting to play him. I made a thread when the assasin update came out talking about jg talon, but it didn't get alot of attention and I didn't fully understand talon very well, I suggested using his ultimate to engage. Which is not the best idea.
So I know what you might be thinking, jg talon is trash right? Well knowing that Elise is still out there and they're looking to help nidalee out some more, yeah, he's not on their level. But what makes jungle talon work so well is his e. The fact that you can get around faster in a similar fashion to vi or lee sin makes him very good at invading and escaping. Obviously his e doesn't have the same utility as lee's q or vi's q, but you can use it to get to your camps faster, get to lanes to gank faster, or like I mentioned before invade.
So what about his other abilities, his w can't be that good at clearing right? Well that's where you're kind of wrong. Although it's best to max q, his w can help clear the krugs or even raptors quickly if you have smite and you're feeling brave (especially against raptors.) His q meanwhile, I'm sure you can see the usefulness in that. Killing stuff with it gives you a small bit of hp. It was buffed recently. Use it at close range to take advantage of the guaranteed crit you get from doing so, use bushes for greenfathers gifr, and for the keystone mastery, I've see people take stormraiders surge, and they're probably better players than I am, but for jungling I prefer thunderlords decree for the extra burst damage.
It's also almost mandatory to jungle with talon using the hunters potion, you'll be close to full hp most of the time if you have this and ready to gank fairly often. Don't be a wuss and back before you have at least 1050 g. That way you can upgrade your hunters machete, and your refillable potion.
Now for what to build. Don't get black cleaver. I know it's tempting. It sounds like it would be a really good item on him. And, alright I guess it is, but here's the thing. You don't need it. Get
and
then you're set and you'll be able to catch up to just about anybody, you won't need some lame cleaver. What you want to do, is rush the
as your first item, get
upgrade it when you can, and then build into either
or
although I've found that it isn't always needed, but it's nice to have.
Since you're likely to buy a few
I would suggest getting at least 1
depending on who you're jungling against.
In teamfights do talon stuff, let somebody else engage, or try to kill anybody who get's close to the adc (or
).
After your first few items just build whatever you want (Don't be tempted to get cleaver, it's a deceiver) as long as it has a lot of ad, getting maw or nights edge is up to you, but get one or the other. typically
and
go well together, and your final item should be a guardian angel. If you don't want that, get something else with ad. As for boots get
for the cool down reduction. You could also disregard my advice or find your own way of making talon do his thing. I'm only a silver tier player after all.
Also I know there are other people who have done talon in the jungle, this is just my take on it, and what I've had the most success doing.
