Mastery 6+ costs - a discrepancy

It just occurred to me when burning a Shen shard for mastery 6, that was 630 BE I was losing. Whereas when I got mastery 7 for Yi, I stupidly used 3k BE that should've been a mere loss of 90 BE if it had been just a shard. Besides, the 450 BE champs seem to be more common, I would've gotten it at some point if I had been more patient (for reference, I now have 2-3 copies of pretty much all the 450 champs and only 1 of the higher tier ones.

I feel that it is unfair in a sense. Why should it be harder for a Rakan main to get his M7 than a Soraka main, especially if they've both proven themselves by getting the mastery tokens? The costs add an unnecessary hurdle after the S/S+ games that also discriminate against players using expensive champions. If they use their shards, that's 1.2k BE they're essentially burning off while players who play cheaper champs aren't losing much from burning their shards that are worth 90 BE (on top of being more common).

It's almost never worth to pay the flat BE cost, yet shard usage highly favors the mains of low BE champs.

Why does it even matter? Mastery 7 is just a way for bronze/silver players to pretend that they're good at the champion they play.

Same reason people use skins, aesthetics. They might like the border too. Or it could just be an achievement thing (which then should be made equal for all champs). Put it this way: How would a Lux main feel if Elementalist Lux costs 3250 RP but Spirit Guard Udyr costs 1350 RP? They're both same tier.

So riddle me this: Why should someone who enjoys playing Xayah have to spend so much more to play a champion they like than a player who enjoys, say, Master Yi?

You want to talk about the unfairness of a purely cosmetic feature of the game; what about something that actually matters in terms of playing the game?

This isn't to say that your point doesn't hold water. But I just don't think it matters. If champions can be allowed to have different prices simply to own them and have access to them, champion masteries having different relative costs is hardly an issue worth bringing up to me. I do confess I'm quite an older player (mounds of blue essence) and champion mastery isn't that impressive in my eyes so my two cents is probably biased.

As a final note, maybe that's why mastery emotes for more expensive champions are more impressive than those for champions like Yi, Nunu & Willump, Warwick, etc. I remember as a new player seeing someone with a 6300 IP champion was like 'Whoa, cool!' I obviously don't get the same feeling anymore but the inherent cost difference of mastery levels might allow players to take more pride in their mastery levels for expensive champions. Perhaps the cost isn't the same, but neither is the feeling of accomplishment.
