Lets talk Bard. I love his character and I love the concept behind him, but there is an issue. He just doesn't really do much at all. Bards skill set is unique and interesting, but just doesn't do much.

Lets just have a little chat about his kit. http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/passive/Bard_Passive.png - Traveler's Call is so fun going on chime collecting sprees, but doesn't really give much other than a slow on some of your auto attacks and aoe damage. Bard is sold as a support. Having aoe damage on your auto attacks doesn't really feel right. If Bard was a heavier combat support, like Thresh or Naut, then some aoe damage on auto attacks would be good, but he is very soft and the number of meeps that spawn to help you do that just isn't enough. You get 3 or 4 good swings and then you're done. And the meeps themselves are only there for your auto attacks.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardQ.png - Cosmic Binding is great if you can catch 2 targets or 1 to a wall, but I think we can all agree that its range is next to nothing and if you are close enough to hit your target, you are close enough to be easily attack.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardW.png - Caretaker's Shrine is a great skill for the wandering support. Give jungle a nice safe and early start. Give mid a little fall back as you pass by. Store a good heal for your adc while you back or collect chimes. I don't have a problem with this skill. This one is spot on.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardE.png - Magical Journey has one purpose and everyone can use it. Ally and enemy alike. If there is a wall, you can go through it. The end.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardR.png - Tempered Fate has lots of potential, but it suffers a severe down side. It is slow. It is so slow that the enemy can see where it will land, take a sip of their tea, then walk out of it. It is cool to deny the enemy of taking a tower as you get back to lane, but it deals no damage, no slows, no negative effects to the enemy. When uses in the right hands by a sharp shot it is perfect for splitting the enemy team in the heat, but it can go really bad if an ally it caught in the effect unwillingly.

Lets just watch Mountain again for a minute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX8iSobsKTY

So here are my ideas and thoughts on how to make Bard feel more like Bard, the Wandering Caretaker: *numbers are subject to change and are simply examples of the concept.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/passive/Bard_Passive.png - Traveler's Call: This will remain much the same. However, the meeps will now provide new effects on all Bards other abilities. Meeps are still consumed for auto attack bonus as normal.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardQ.png - Cosmic Binding: The same ability only now Meeps are consumed to extend the cast range. Each meep consumed will extend the cast range by 20* (base range is 925). Stun duration is the same. If Cosmic Binding contacts a champion first, ally minions can proc the stun effect.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardW.png - Caretaker's Shrine: Placing a shrine consumes 1 meep to allow the shrine to reveal a small area (same as Teemo Shroom vision range).

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardE.png - Magical Journey: This ability stays the same for the most part, but now meeps are consumed to apply damage effect to enemies that pass through. If meeps are present in the journey then the enemy to pass through will be damaged by only 1. (Does that make sense? I cant word it right for some reason.) Casting Magical Journey will consume all meeps and apply them to the tunnel. As each enemy passes through the tunnel, each meep will detonate on each enemy separately. (I dont think that sounds any better. I hope you understand what I mean.)

Alternatively, this ability may be cast is no wall is within cast range (1000*). When cast, Bard will quickly dash forward 900* units in a swervey kind of way like in the Mountain video as you can see here. This would give Bard the ability to quickly dash in to save an ally quickly or move faster between the middle of lanes.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.7.2/img/spell/BardR.png - Tempered Fate: Same as is, only now meeps are consumed to increase the travel speed through the air. Meeps are spawned depending on how many champions were hit.

I really, REALLY hope people have a read of this and we can have some meaningful discussion and not just shut down and buried because I'm from OCE. Please let me know what you think. Any comments. Any discussion. Let me know. Till then, TheHobbits.

I like the meeps as they are right now, they do provide some additional utility and can grant you some surprising burst. (Despite his low damage output).

While I find the consume:meep idea interesting it feels more like a band-aid fix on some parts:

I'd rather they just increase either the projectile speed or the range of his Q by a small margin.

His shrines should definitively grant vision at all stages.

  • Everyone can see them.
  • There is no downside to destroying them by walking through them.
  • You can only have a total of three around.

Additionally, I would like to see an decrease to the timer from 10 to 8 seconds

His E is fine as it is, I considered a vector similar to Viktor's laser and Rumble's ult but that would make the ability overpowered.

I agree that his ult is quite easy to dodge at max distance but I would rather see an improvement to its casting delay since point blank ults a incredible difficult - not impossible - to pull off.

Thanks for the feedback. What were your thoughts on the Bard dash on his E?

I thought about allowing Bard to cast his E like Viktor or Rumble cast their laser/rockets. You would click and drag at the wall to create tunnel, allowing you to set it up as you want without moving much.

This would be overpowered because Bard could create a gank opportunity without leaving his lane. There would be little counterplay involved and pushing his tower would make you even more open for ganks since warding behind the walls of bot lane is pretty uncommon.

Basically, he would be able to recreate Zac Ganks without Zac.

Yes, I see what you mean. I feel that by giving Bard the option to either help the team escape slightly quicker with the enemy following behind or to simply just dash away as an escape.

The only reason his meeps can eventually do AOE damage is because it applies the AOE slow, and without it he only has one damage ability. Nobody else in the entire game has that lack of damage potential.

As for his Q, I think it'd be neat if landing it and a meep hit also proced the stun. I like your idea on that.

The meep sacraficing themselves to gaurd the magical journey also makes a lot of sense. He's either using it to escape a bad fight and won't need the meeps, or he positioning himself and other allies behind the enemy team, and shouldn't need the meep empowered auto attacks. If he uses it without a wall to fly in, he's clearly going in alone and will need his meeps. One thing you should change though, is any damage should stop his flight, otherwise he'd be unkillable because he would literally have an 800+ range dash to get away. That's worse then Riven. Nobody wants something more unchasable as Riven.

Letting his ult generate meeps is actually an idea I've had myself, since a lot of his laning power comes from the meeps, but his ult is mostly late game teamfighting. Letting his refuel in longer fights like that would let him have better lockdown. He doesn't have much else, so he should be able to apply meep slows a lot more.

The only real disagreement I have is how he uses meeps on his shrines. Yes the heal is somewhat weak, but that's because he can place 3, and let them grow. Tapping all three after they've charged is like getting a Soraka ult. The healing is huge under that one cirumstance.

Thanks for the reply and thank you for likeing the most part.

With the Health Shrines the meeps don't provide any more healing, they only provide a small area of vision. Were you thinking that a meep charged shrine gave more hp back?

Thairn1 votes

Yeah, granting vision is redundant though. If someone touches it it'll break, so it's an obvious sign that someone is there. Let a meep guard it if he has one ready, so that if a champion runs over a shrine, the meep will attack them once.

TheHobbits1 votes

What if the enemy that steps on a guarded shrine was slowed and revealed?

Thairn1 votes

That's good, since killing the shrines is super easy and it's instant.

Hmm... maybe his Caretaker's Shrine give a stronger heal?

TheHobbits1 votes

I thought about that, but it still felt a bit bland.

I feel that by allowing them to have vision would allow for some utility since the enemy can see them regardless.

His kit is nice, I really like playing him. But the heals are way underpowered and his ult needs to be much faster. If they fix those, he will be in a very good spot.

TheHobbits1 votes

The kit is okay, but as you say, the heal is a little on the low side.

TheHobbits1 votes

Perhaps if a meep charged Shrine is stepped on by an enemy it hurts them?

TheHobbits1 votes

Bards dash on Magical Journey does not damage enemies.

TheHobbits1 votes

Yup. This thread has lost all attention once again. OCE is simply buried and ignored as usual...

Just looking for some discussion.

I find Bard to be perfect the way he is, I would not at all welcome any changes on him, even if it was a buff like having Q travel a tad quicker. He's just perfect imo, perfect.

Similar could be said about Fiora. Yet they have changed her.

Passive: It is fine. The slow is k, and the AOE is pretty big (Try rylais on him with rank 65 meeps). The chimes, in the early game at least, are a freat form of mana sustain.

Q: The initial range is fine. The SECONDARY range is what I have a problem with.

W: Great skill, just needs a lower mana cost. I dont feel that granting vision is worth consuming a meep. Maybe if it instantly charged the pack.

E: Dealing 1 damage is not worth consuming a meep. The skill is one of the most fun things in league, and using it outside of terrain would be rather broken.

R: Messing with the travel time if you have meeps makes this thing harder to land, as you cannot get used to the travel time.

I know this thread hasn't been touched in months but I would like to suggest that instead of giving him a dash maybe just adding a speed boost? So that if you self cast his e it provides him with some amount of speed. Also maybe a very small increase of q range.
