Do Preseason matches count towards placements next season?

Dear friends,

Isn't it true that every match we play in Ranked during preseason counts to our placement for Season 8?

Games played in preseason affect your mmr, albeit less than regular season ones, so you can potentially increase/decrease your ranked mmr prior to the soft reset by continuing to play throughout preseason.

Then when next season starts, you'll have to play 10 placement matches which are just matches that have a higher than normal impact on your mmr, and then you'll be placed based on your mmr at the end of those placements.

So what if you were in the middle of placements going into next season, will you just continue the remaining games left from your placements or does you re-do the 10 placement games?

You always have to do 10 placement games.

If you only played say, 5 placement games one season, and then stopped playing ranked for the rest of the season, your ranked mmr will still have gone up/down from each of those placement games (even if you were never actually placed into a rank). Then when the next season starts, your ranked mmr will be soft reset, and you'll have to play your 10 placement matches, and then you'll be placed based on your mmr at the end of those.

how do you know it affects your mmr less? I heard that the mmr is the same for preseason and regular season. Can you reference?

At the end of last season they mentioned how our end of season rank in dynamic would determine our seeding for solo/duo and flex this year, although games played in preseason would have 'some impact', which doesn't sound like they'd have the same impact as regular season games (i.e. they have less mmr impact).

I'm pretty sure last years preseasons FAQ went into more detail to say that your end of season rating would carry more weight than your end of preseason rating, although unfortunately I can't find that and think they just updated the preseason 2017 FAQ into the 2018 preseason FAQ. Strictly speaking I suppose that implies a weighted average (weighted towards end of season MMR) rather than less mmr gains during preseason, but the end result on where you're placed is the same as if end of season mmr changes were smaller.

Thank you for the information about the mmr reset. It's possible that last season to this season was a bit different seeing that dynamic que was going away and solo/duo was coming back so it would make sense to say that since they knew that particular reset would be different then most. Either way I think your last part makes a lot of sense. We can see the preseason as starting our soft reset so it could potentially increase our chances of starting closer to our end of season rank vs not playing and being guaranteed 3 to 5 divisions lower. Thank you!

I also wonder this. I started playing League Season 7 and got placed Bronze 2 after placements. I didn't really practice on focusing on one sole champion, so after months of playing ranked I ended season 7 in Bronze 4 unfortunately. However, season starts next week and I'm currently Bronze 2, hoping to get to at least Bronze 1/Silver 5 by the start of next season. Also, on op.gg (don't know how reliable it is) it states my solo MMR is that of a Silver 5 player.

I'm really hoping that i can do 5/5 or 6/5 on my placements and get placed at least Bronze 3/2 and not 4/5 (since I finished last season Bronze 4).
