If you make it the same distance you just gutted flash, because currently flash as a blink only has to go at least 1 unit past halfway through a wall to reach the other side.

This.

Relevant: Reddit can't possibly be wrong (about dashes crossing walls).

Can I ask what purpose this would even serve? Do you main blitz and are tired of people flashing the hook? Cause the only things it would change would be A) less potential to juke (as they'll just see you slide whichever way) B) The ability to get hit out of it (and who wants that on the only escape for many champions?) and C) Giving less escapes in general since you can flash a lot of things that can't be dashed over.

I want downside to flash other then a long CD. Also, some kind of counterplay/more counterplay. Right now when we look at summoner spells they all have clear counterplay except: summoner 13 summoner 1 summoner 11, and arguably summoner 21. But the ones without counterplay are rather week in terms. Smite cannot be used on Champions(except for with blue and red jungle item. Which doesn't do much damage so you don't need counterplay there much. Clarity is pretty much a troll summoner spell. Cleance is a counterplay spell that doesn't need more counterplay. Barrier you kind of can wait out; some may say that is or is not counterplay.

So what is the purpose of Flash? It's a spell to escape with and to make good plays with. So making it a dash instead of a blink puts in the counterplay and make already mobile Champs rethink "Do we really need this spell now that it can only dash?" Some may say yes. The change I purpose too allows Champs like Annie be able to do her Flash ult plays too. So it doesn't destroy that completely; it does weaken it a bit though.

You have a solid argument, but I'm still imagining the Xerath's of the world that are now completely screwed because the only escape mechanism they have (besides his cc, but that's another argument as it can be dodged in multiple ways including flash) has had counterplay added to it. If he manages to get scooped out of his fancy new dash, that's it, that's his ass, he's done.

I don't see the problem there. He knew there was a risk of being scooped out of it. That is where it comes to play, where he needs to position correctly where there is a less likely way for them to scoop him out. He could even throw his CC at the person who can scoop him out and then flash.

No thanks, blink works better all-around, thinking of both the immobile and mobile and the ability to distinguish a flash from an ability used.

Giving it a unique sound and particles isn't hard. It can be the same as Flash's current sound too.

I play without sound a mass majority of the time simply because I'd rather listen to music than hear the shitty sounds of Katarina going "HUA" every time she throws a stupid bouncing blade and really don't want to hear the ridiculous smacking sound of TF's AAs.

Sounds wouldn't do anything for those with low computer performance either, having no sound helps run smoother (something Riot has even given a hint about in the options)

Distinguishing particles? How are you going to distinguish it from Lucian's dash with particles exactly, outside of color - doesn't help the color blind.

It's great in concept, but can't really be implemented into something that you can't differentiate.

Bright yellow after-image?

Done and done.

Again, color blind. Now what?

Just shut up.

You're acting like the sugar-crazed kid of pedants

The only way colour blindness is an irretrievable problem is with monochromatic colour blindness, in which case there are far, far, far worse problems than a dash colour (like "lol oops they were the enemy not my team")

MrPerson102 votes

You literally cannot come up with anything to distinguish it and so you result to the classic "shut up" followed by a petty insult.

That's the problem companies HAVE to think about. Flash is currently very distinguishable as someone who IS color blind and plays with no sound. It's an unmistakable spell. It's clear it isn't Katarina's E, clearly not Ezreal's blink, clearly not Kassadin's, etc.

As someone who plays with no sound and is color blind to yellow and blue, I can still distinguish Flash from everything else despite that the particles are, in fact, yellow.

A dash with a unique particle and fixed travel time that is unchanging over the course of any game you play isn't easily distinguished from other dashes?

Classic case of git gud.

That moment a silver 3 tells a platinum I to get good.

Maybe, for the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume you're missing the main points here - being color blindness and not having sound. Every dash has fixed travel time, all of them indistinguishable in time per unit of distance traveled from each other due to the fact that they're so damn fast because they have to be, otherwise it'd be a walk.

Please tell me how you'd distinguish it from Renekton's dash, Lucian's dash, etc - without a simple color change.

The animation that the Champion does is different. Like Renekton's E is a spin, while Lucian's E is a straight dash. They could make it more like a hop. Maybe put their legs foward.

MrPerson101 votes

Your two ideas about moving legs and leaving residual markings would work well. You don't need sound for them, you don't need to see color in order to distinguish them from other spells.

I feel like a fast jump would work better than a dash though, something like Riven's Q - as it would still allow you to hop walls without requiring to go 100% of the way through with the animation where a blink requires 1 unit past 50% of the way through to jump it.

Go play a game as lee or leblanc and tell me the speed of their dash isn't noticeably slower than Vi's or Lucian's. And besides the speed and unique particle, there's the range and animation to take into consideration. Your argument is completely baseless. Any difficulties in distinguishing flash from other dashes are shared by distinguishing flash from other blinks, besides there being far more dashes that blinks in the game.

MrPerson101 votes

Would you like to tell me exactly how, unit for unit, their dash is any different than any other? It isn't. I frequently do play LeBlanc, and unit for unit her dash is no slower or faster than any other I've seen in the game. It's a matter of distance traveled.

Again, as a color blind person I can distinguish flash from any other blink with the simple animation particles left from where they flashed and the minor glow under the champion afterward. No other blink provides the same or relatively equal range with anything that could be mistaken for flash. Ezreal is the closest we have, however his blink has a clear animation.

KidSpectre1 votes

Honestly, it shouldn't make that much of a difference. But for argument's sake, I would agree that it should have a distinct animation. How about the same yellow glow after effect, but there's a noticeable flash of light at the start and end of the dash. I think that would be a pretty clear signal, and not too different from the current flash.

Yellow big circles show up behind the dash. Like you're breaking a sound barrier or something due to the speed.
