For high elo ADC mains, I have a question for you

What is better.

1. Grouping reguardless of items

2. splitting for gold when you do nothing in teamfights

Context: Recently lost a game because I told my team i was going to go farm a side lane for some extra gold since every time we fought I did almost nothing to enemy. Meanwhile, they decided it was smart to engage 4v5, and then blame me the whole game for not grouping. Now, I see it as a couple things:

1. If team is aware ADC isn't there and chooses to fight anyway, that is their fault not ADC.
2. If me doing nothing but standing there is enough for them to not complain is it worth it to be useless when i could be farming elsewhere?

I'm 100% baffled as my team consistently blamed me the entire game for "not grouping" when I did the least amount of damage on the entire team. As far as I was concerned, you are better off farming side lanes to get up to par with everyone else rather than just suiciding into teamfights all the time.

Let me know what you guys think about this because I'm seriously questioning my knowledge of the game state atm :/
