What would League be like without items?

I know it sounds like a lot of work and this isn't an original idea by any means but having an equivalent to items for each champion would make champions MUCH easier to balance. Each character would build up personal runes or choices through out the game, getting personal passives. To me this seems like a way to balance the game, diversify champions, and allow people to look at what type of stats they need in the moment. What I mean by the last bit is that I think it would be immensely helpful for assassins and adc's who are falling behind to be able to buy health at the cost of some damage. This way they can stay alive a little, but not ruin their entire game by being forced to lose out on what would currently be an item-1200ish gold- 7ish minutes of the early game gone to waste costing potentially the rest of the game. Do you guys think this could help game healthiness?

No. At the current champion pool size A compelat removal, even with stat rebalancing will negitivly impact viability for far to many champions. They lose their identity completely.

Leauge is not remotely positioned to make this change.

A game like Heros of the storm can get away with no items partly Because they use obj focused gameplay over multiple maps. Champions see increase and decreases in viability's not just by overall team comp and kit mechanics, but their interactions with a map.

That would just make League into a HoTS clone, albeit, a much better one.

I don't think you understand the purpose of itemization if you are asking for this. You build different items based on your team comp and the enemy comp and who is strong on the enemy team. Sometimes a damage dealer builds tank if his team needs. Tanks can build mr or armor based on who is strong on the enemy. Imagine not being able to build qss against a malz or not being able to ga/zhonyas as an adc/mage. Removing itemization would pretty much cause most matches in high elo to be decided by who selects the stronger champions/comp which would drastically reduce the skill cap required for league, and thats not league of legends, thats just aram without random champs or items.

League of Legends without items? Would be a much better game since items are most likely stupid and unbalancing the matches. You are adc and your enemy Diana is fed, GG. You are 2 shot and down within 0.2 seconds. Nonsense.
