I stopped caring when all the god-like creatures came out

I used to really like this game because of the lore. I get that a few ancient gods and demons can be cool (think soraka), but when it became the string of: Bard AurelionSol Ivern Kindred Zoe Aurelion is the worst offender I think. Why on early would this celestial destroyer of worlds be so small and be a part of something like League of Legends. He is literally attributed to being "he who birthed light into the universe!". New lore is whack and dumb in my opinion edit: for those who are gonna tell me to read the lore to find out how he got tricked: I get it. Its just seems like a really weak plot device to me. There's no depth to that, someone just spent 3 seconds coming up with how to put him in League then pronto Rubber stamped his bio

Sumonners rift isn't canon. Hasn't been for years. They retconned it so they could have characters like Aurelion Sol in game without having to justify why a god would join the League.

Alright 2 things.

  1. the Institute of War and the League don’t exist anymore and have never existed in the current iteration of the world’s lore.

  2. Regardless, I agree. I think the focus on godlike beings is a mistake brought on by people confusing high stakes with actual conflict.

I'd... Have to disagree with this. While I think Riot has been over-focusing on the mount of immortals/deities, I like the idea that they're giving their universe an actual cosmology. You'd expect a world with as much magic as Runeterra to have more than a few gods within its pantheon.

I suspect it's less an issue of adding to the pantheon, and more those beings interacting on an "equal" basis. It would probably make more sense if the champions were that: avatars for the deities, rather than the deities themselves.

There really aren't even gods though in League because for every "godlike" figure their is one right above them. They aren't really gods in the sense that they have deity levels powers just that people deify them because they recognize something bigger than themselves

Ornn Volibear Anivia are not really demi-gods but just very powerful spirits that Freljordians deify

Aatrox Nasus Renekton Azir Xerath Ascended aren't really gods because their fall into Darkin proves they are fallible. Held back by all too human weakness like greed, wrath and fear. Humans that took a different form and were wrongfully deified by men again

Leona Taric Diana Zoe Pantheon Aren't gods either, Aspects have a small amount of the power that the Targon "gods" (who knows if even they are all powerful) have bestowed power on to act as representatives. They aren't even as strong as the Ascended according to the Aatrox AMA because the while Aspects and Sunborn fall under the general umbrella of "Ascended" beings because they draw from celestial powers Ascended take much more of that than an Aspect would willingly let his chosen take. Powerful but still not gods. Deified and turned into a false/misrepresented (Solari/Lunari/Rakkor culture) religion by Targonians.

Not sure how Bard and Ivern fit into your gripe. They don't really belong in that line up. Ivern being the new "Godwillow" doesn't make him a god just because the word is in there. And Bard is a cosmic explorer that maintains balance. Like the Kinkou but with even more dispassion and on a larger scale. They don't fit with the rest.

AurelionSol may not even be a god. He's just an entity that can create stars. The fact that he was able to be manipulated by humans is the best part of his character not just an asspull by the writers. Because an all powerful god wouldn't find himself in that situation, it humanizes him. He got curious/lonely and that made him vulnerable when he tried to get close to these offshoots of his beloved stars. He again shows human weakness, namely pride. A specific wounded pride derives from holding a high opinion of yourself and then being proven wrong by being used like a tool.

The only entities in the universe that I would put in any stock in being actual "gods" are Kindred for being even older and more enigmatic than Sol himself and Nagakabourous if it even exists.

People take the 'gods' of league too seriously they are just beings associated to another source of power. The Targonians and Shurimans (Pantheon Aatrox Xerath) are just factions associated with celestial magic and the Demi-gods (Anivia Ornn Volibear) are just spirits that gain strength from human belief/ worship. For better context Sivir Ezreal and Kassadin all possess weapons that contain celestial magic and Yordles are also considered spirits and Janna could theoretically equal the Demi-gods.

Likewise them being considered 'gods' doesn't make their stories anymore important than another champion's. For example Azir and Xerath the most important factor of their conflict isn't that they're both Ascended, rather, the course Shurima would take should either of them become emperor. The Freljord is in a 3-way civil war yet Ornn is more concerned about Volibear than trying to rule anything himself.

ASol did not birth light into the cosmos despite his claims. He helped, but he is just one star dragon of multiple. He's just an arrogant ass.

He is about 2.2 miles long, the game has him scaled down FYI.

Zoe is the 5th Targonian.

Ivern is just a tree not a god in any way. He is called the god Willow because it was the world's oldest tree, or at least Ionias, and it was on a magic spring, basically LoLs version of a leyline.
