Can Someone Help Me Understand the LP System

Because it makes no sense to me right now. The LP I gain is severely inconsistent. From 24 LP I keep gaining +22 per win up to 80 LP. Then at 80 LP I win a game and get +18 LP, 98 LP. Then I lose a game and lose -16 LP, 82 LP. Just now I won another game and gained +17 LP, 99 LP. So if I get +22 LP 3 wins in a row, why do I suddenly only gain +18 LP? and why didn't I get +18 LP instead of +17 LP to put me in my promos? Does Riot just not want people entering their promotional series?

The system adjusts your LP to the quality of players you're playing against.

If it's even, you'll win ~18. If the system expected you to win, it's ~14 If the system expected you to lose, it's ~20

So is it based on the MMR of the players you're playing against and your team's MMR?

Yes, as well as your rank compared to your team's rank. If you're in Silver 5 and playing with Bronze 3 players, you're going to get very little LP for a win, because you're expected to win that. Over time, the system adjusts and changes how it thinks you should be ranked, so your LP win/losses will change.

but then why did I play against people with high MMRs three games in a row and win each game, then go against people of lower MMRs? Shouldn't it just get higher the more games I win in a row?

Not in 3 games, no. It doesn't want small win streaks to heavily influence your mmr.

This is how it work

1 won game = gain nothing

2 won game = 1 lose game

4 won game = 2 lose game

1 won = 12-14 LP

1 lose = -20-24 LP

That how I see it
