Why Trundle support?

Why even bring him support?

What does he offer?

It seems very strange

to bring an immobile tank

into an early game lane

Unless it's to scale?

Just wait until team fights start?

Avoid trades in lane?

Little old but it sums up what Trundle support does.

hes actually a decent support, he can take a chunk of an enemys damage away, he has HARD cc, his durability is 2nd to none, and he has the best sustain out of almost anyone in the game especially durring more passive play styles.

a good pillar win make or break the trundle support, but it works wonders in the right hands

I played a few games with Trundle support, it works pretty well. His Q (Chomp) and E (Pillar) help out a lot with the slows it provides on enemies.

he brings cc

Anything with CC is viable as a support right.

Yeah I'm confused as to why he keeps getting played as support in LCS, I always thought he was useless against ranged champs in lane.

usually its all about exploiting one or two things in a champion. in this case. his pillars. spam them for days. endless cc. ranged. also his ult makes him become tankier than the others team tanks while making them useless.

what does he offer? ranged hard CC good sustain with passive and ult (try golden coin for the lols its hilarious how 1 wave can basically bring back half his health) so although he is weak against poke he has ways to deal with it due to lane sustain. good slow with Q/chomp that can go pretty good gank synergy due to higher damage and the ability to lock a target down. he goes very well against tank supports like leona and tresh because he steals their tank stats away. and makes them squishy. this messes up the usual let the tank support soak the damage because he takes that aspect away.

It makes 1 enemy tank useless forcing them to grab 2

pillars are strong

has good sustain so isnt bothered as much by poke

can steal adc ad

that sums it up

Piller isnt bad CC - heavy slow and creates terrain. Can interrupt channels and dashes if you time it well.

Great peel against tanks by reducing the enemy AD and reducing their tank stats.

Pretty good sustain for himself in lane, so he can eat damage that other supports cant.

If he gets ahead, he basically fufills the same exact role as trundle top. This cant be said for other toplaners-turned-supports like Shen, Poppy, or Tahm.

A lot of people think Trundle is a late game champion when in reality he is an early to mid game one. His chomp(Q) steals AD stats which are more painfully early (when you have no way to compensate with items) than late. His sustain is independent of he is aa or anything at all, basically s he is gaining xp he is healing. His pillar of ice serve as both engages and disengages. And his ult helps him scale even without items just like Alistair

Avoiding trades in lane is counterproductive since that's when Trundle shines. Trundle could potentially work in some comps since his early-game presence is so strong and he has quite a bit of utility for a Fighter, but I personally wouldn't do it. Trundle already scales off abysmally into the latter-end of the game, and not having some sort of reliable gold-income would only only hasten the time at which point Trundle loses his steam.

He counters other melee supports, cause he offers more dps in a 2v2 fight, and his pillar can either preven their carries from following up or them from retreat. He also can go well for trades, cause his sutained dps is higher than that of any other support, so opponents want to avoid all-ins, and after short trades his passive sustain usually means you come out ahead in the end. With a well placed pillar, you can also get a catch on ranged champs sometimes and once he gets there, his huge base damage and tankiness come in massive, though he generally isn't great in lane vs poke supports, though his passive atleast sustains him rather well so one cna play a rather save farm lane. Also, shut trundle ever get close to the opposing adc, you instantly win that fight as the flat ad-reduce on his Q realy hurts adc alot early in the game. However, what he offers outside of lane is great, the pillar is such a massive tool that can be used for nearly anything, and that ult realy screws the opposing tank.

Trundle counters all melee tank supports. He also has good sustain and good dps. Early cdr rush makes pillars unbearable especially in ganks.
